- Gene W. Frederickson of Brown Water Productions created this historic collection of the Vietnam War's Brown Water Navy. The forty-five minute film is narrated by Monte Markham. It includes a final ride of Vietnam Swift Boat veteran officers and enlisted men aboard PCF-1 and PCF-2 from where they were refurbished to the Washington Navy Yard. Thanks to Mr. Frederickson for having for the foresight in documenting the gallant contribution and sacrifice made by Naval and Coast Guard servicemen during the Vietnam War.
I served in one of PCF in Việt Nam from 1972-1975 in the middle VN . Love it . I am proudly serving our Republic of the south Việt Nam . Thank you for you great serve , and sacrifice time in Douth Việt Bam . 👍✌️🙏
My Uncle (US Navy ) saved a few boats when he was stationed on land at a swamp boat docking and maintenance station. He was getting mortar fire from the VC and ran out and drove the boats into deep water. He got back later and a fellow sailor said "hey your leg is bleeding !" Apparently he felt little or nothing. He got a Purple Heart for that shrapnel wound. He was a 30 year Navy Lifer ! He was one of my heroes ! I made a framed memorial for him , when he passed on. He deserved much more !
I spent '66 & '67 as a River Rat out of Vung Tau and the Hon Roi Islands. Someday I will forget most of it.

I manned the aft gun on PCF 1 during the Invasion of Panama Operation Just Cause in 1989. These men are my “forefathers” and am so honored to be able to say “I am a Swiftboat Sailor”!! So thankful PCF 1 is a memorial at the Washington DC Navy Yard!

A blot on the entire navy and it’s Officers corps. The medals he “threw over the fence “ in DC were only the “I was there too”. He had no personal decorations.

Nothing but Respect for the Swift Boat Sailors. They were floating targets in Vietnam. No hole to crawl into, just open water, I was a Tin Can Sailor, we would give them Anything they needed when they came alongside.

Kerry the Hero of Vietnam...as viewed by the Northern aggressors...awarded himself the Silver Star for action in which he ran from while other boats were engaged. It's amazing that the other Brown Water Sailors allowed him to participate in the last patrol.
@@davidsauer6286 That simply not true about his silver star that he earned. He did earn this medal and theres plenty of information about it. Information during the swift boat bullshit and today. Probably just a maga cultist lie, we are used to it and blow it off just as we do trumps bullshit. He can't just award himself a silver star. The action would have been investigated and most of the soldiers there would all have been talked to as witnesses. Then his superior would present it to him. Just gave himself a medal... come on thats not how it works.

It's 55 years since the American War and the government of Vietnam is still standing strong. The same thing happened in Afghanistan and Iraq. The moral of the story is never invade another country. People will never give up the fight for there own country no matter how screwed up it is.

Not only did Kerry serve, he was injured. I was in the Mekong in 68-69 and believe me when I say that anyone who served on a Swifty was in real danger at all times when in the field. All sailors who served on Swift boats have my most deepest respect. Including John Kerry.

A friend was on one of those patrol boats. He manned the front gun. He eventually got wounded. Was not an easy thing to do.

@@zacwood821 sadly I have no idea. He just talked about being on a river boat and manning the front 50s. He talked a little but not much either. He was still suffering from his wounds but at times I think it was more PTSD. We were in a motorcycle club and I think riding helped him a lot as it helped me. Last time I saw him he was going full time into gold hunting rather than a hobby. Doing well from what I saw.

There is one PCF at the Washington Navy Yard. It is PCF Hull number 1. I actually rode it during the invasion in 1989 when it was in Panama.

There were MANY "no go" areas in South Vietnam and Cambodia we couldn't attack or bomb. And we KNEW they were North Vietnamese Supply and RR Depots. One such was the Chup plantation that supplied Michelin with its rubber. If we bombed the heavy concentration of North Vietnamese encamped within, we'd have to pay Michelin for any rubber trees we damaged. (At least THAT was what I was told). I would GUESS many of those troops and much of their equipment we would have to later fight during the siege of An Loc in April and May of 1972.

My husband Robert Kline was a Swift Boat Officer. He agrees with your assessment of John Kerry the Traitor. He was going to get a "Less than honorable' discharge until Clinton changed to Honorable. My husband was on the following boats 37, 9, 42 , 84, 27, 34, 13, 40. He too was awarded bronze and others awards but doesn't really talk about it. He never went over to the Viet Cong & sided with our enemy like Kerry and Fonda. I am sure if he had he would still be in the brig. Believe what you want that is part of the problem.

For some people, their fight for this nation doesn't necessarily mean that they were good people. I will always respect their service, however I refuse to respect or comply with their agenda to take our rights and freedoms. Kerry is one of those few of which I speak.

The commentator gives the impression the the Swift boat fired on the VC first. This breaks the first "Rules of engagement" he also gives the Impression that the Swift boat was inland when it engages the VC. This breaks the third "Rules of Engagement" for SWIFT boats.

My uncle's (2 of them, twins) Served on 2 different destroyers in the Gulf of Tonkin, and off the Delta area's. Even they liked these boats because it made their jobs easier. This is the first time I actually did not hear Blah, blah, blah, out of John Kerry's mouth. You could actually see his admiration for these boats and his servicemen.

Most young men joined the US Navy so they would not have to step onto the soil of Vietnam. They'd be safe out on some big Naval ship in the Gulf of Tonkin...either in Yankee or Dixie station- so those who ended up on PBR /Swift boats riverine duty must have done something bad to get such a dangerous job assignment. Many of my PBR vets who did riverine duty, were doing it due to punishment, I am not saying all riverine sailors did something bad, but I sure as heck would rather be on a big ship in the sea and not up in some dangerous river of ambush in the Mekong Delta.....
Duty to the small boats was not a punishment.
@@johnaconservativevet361 true, not in all cases- but most of the guys I know who joined the Navy did it so they would not have to step foot on Vietnam soil let alone be in a plastic patrol boat winding up the rivers of the Mekong. I had two friends who got busted for minor crimes on the big ship- their next duty assignment was brown river boats.
Bullshit my uncle was on one and he never had any trouble in the navy.

I work with Vietnam vets and they are the ones that told me they screwed up and ended up doing riverine patrol which was risky business, that is why they joined the Navy, to stay away from risky business. So you can direct your bullshit to those guys who served in the Navy and ended up in the brown water fleet.

All that fire power and all those brave men and all the pomp and circumstance surrounding their military, America will never be allowed to forget they got their backsides kicked out of Vietnam.
US troops left following the Paris Peace Accord in 1973. The few US combat forces left in ‘73 with little fanfare as South Vietnamese military assumed full responsibility for their country. Two years later in 1975 North Vietnam threw aside the agreements signed in ‘73 and invaded the South eventually taking full control without any interference from the US . The US military was never “kicked out....”

Sorry Boz, your part of the problem we are in constant unjust wars. We have not "Won" a war since WW2. The biggest reason has been because we don't have an idea what winning would look like. But we keep throwing our blood and treasure into them. It's a scam.

@@hughsmith4464 Have you discussed the subject with Vietnamese who fled VN after the Communist take -over in 1975 and are now settled in the US. They have a perspective that comes from actual experience rather than others who have never lived in that country during that period.
