      I was thinking along the lines that yellow guy was in the first room which was supposed to represent ‘gifted’ courses & often misunderstood pedagogical styles that ensue (the same material but more of it) so then he climbed up & got to a room of people using the scientific method presumably using STEM/STEAM (though that might be a stretch) which was equally as tied to the human experience & pitfalls of the education system so he continued up & got to religion which was overt with the church windows & piano also condescending vague tone, slightly malicious intent & using prophesy/predeterminism as a shield because yellow guy was confused he mistook the room as mentally stimulating and this showcases no one is above falling into religion/cult especially when yellow guy was looking for something that stimulated him beyond material reality. The next stairway he didnt go to because he presumably couldn’t go up it as it didnt exist in the room while he was there (it opened when he left). Maybe he was supposed to come back?

      When Yellow guy came back, his friends took his ENERGY to power the house for their entertainment, out of pure selfish reason. And Yellow guy simply agrees on that while he shreds the book. HERE IS THE THING: IF Yellow guy would LEAVE, he would read the book and then he would have power. But he is instead drained by his friends. In order to keep up this symbiotic friendship he chooses joy over power. ( If you say there is no way out then look closely at 20:49 )
      In the very last scene you can clearly see how everyone just lets go of everything in life and just lives day by day without even the slightest attempt of thought. Right in the scene before Yellow guy questioned reality itself and all existence. But as Yellow guy shreds his will to learn ... they go back to normal again. They just wait until they're dead and have fun at it. But the book ... Yes ... I wonder what's inside there. Sadly I as well will never know as I shred it in hysteric laughter. In my beloved shredder. Shreeeeeedeeeeeraaah *sing*

      @RotaAbyssian 5 месяцев назад +6

      @layla.williams__ I think it would be a fourth wall break of a different sort. Leslie is responsible for the things that happen in universe and is the in universe explanation. However, Yellow briefly pierces the veil and sees puppeteers, much like Red in webisode 4. Yellow, given a somewhat satisfying answer of Leslie being the orchestrator of events, ignores this information and takes her presence at face value. What that staircase would have led to is beyond the IN UNIVERSE creator, the ACTUAL Creators of the show.

    My interpretation: Yellow guy grew up and was too mature for the show. Sure, the show helped him grow, but now he has no need for it and needs to be entertained by other things. But without the child audience, the show fails. The ending reveals that the show's first priority is keeping the show running and second priority is the children's growth. As long as they produce thoughtless stimulating content that children will want to watch forever, then the show can stay on, and they win. Very sad, very powerful ending. And to really punch your gut, they play the goofy end music right after.

    I think this is a kind of "endless journey" scenario. There's not supposed to be a destination or any answers, just a Kafkaesque sense of recursive wrongness. The characters are trapped in a hell like a dream within a dream; they are always on the verge of finding out something profound about their situation but there isn't any cohesive logic underpinning any of it. It's a torture show and it's hilarious.

    THEORY TIME!
    i think each layer of the house above the main floor is a trap designed for each of the characters specifically.
    the second floor is a trap for the duck. during the entire show, the duck doesn’t appear have any motive other than recognition essentially. he wants to be praised and he wants to feel smart and important, but it doesn’t really matter HOW. that’s why he was so excited about being dead- everyone would be talking about him. which is why the second floor is designed for the “smart big boys”.
    the third floor is designed for the red guy. the red guys motive is control. sure, he wants to escape the house, but that’s only because the house eliminates all of his free will. he seemed perfectly happy as the boss in the jobs episode, having control over the work place. on the third floor, there are no teachers. nobody telling them what to do. they teach the lessons to themselves. they’re in control.
    the fourth floor is yellow guy’s trap. and we know the trap was successful, cuz he never made it to the fifth floor. (note the staircase at 20:56 that confirms there IS a fifth floor) i think yellow guy is the only character without a clear motive, simply because he’s too stupid to think freely. but the moment he gets his batteries replaced, all he wants to do is get answers. leslie lured him in with the promise of answers in the form of the book, but he never gets the answers he’s looking for. he just goes back downstairs and never even sees the fifth floor. maybe the book never had the answers. maybe it was just a red herring. a yellow herring.

    I think DHMIS is a virtual reality teaching experience for kids and Lesley is someone who trains the AI teachers. The virtual kids' avatars aren't allowed to ever leave the time loops (or the physical perimeter of the house) until they are old and mature enough. The creepy misbehaviors of the teachers are bugs that keep resurfacing because the corporate structure Lesley operates in doesn't give her enough time for proper quality control. The book yellow guy gets is the API documentation of the system all this is organized in. The symbols on the cover specify the various loops the characters can get trapped in.

    My theory for wtf is going on: They exist within the mind of their creative but mentally unwell creator. They are like the protection that keeps their creator from seeing the sadness in their own life, but can allow for an outlet for it. They are definitely slaves to their creator, but their creator isn't completely malevolent. If they become aware it will shatter the illusion of them for the creator and stop them from being the things they need to cope with their own existence. Existence and learning is pain, but we can get through it together. Think of it kind of like Inside Out, but in the mind of someone mentally ill.

    This episode feels like it means so much and yet I can't parse any of it.
    When Yellow Guy gets his batteries changed he slowly starts getting smarter, and this is symbolically represented by him moving up the stairs. The big boys / bigger boy seem smart but clearly don't have the answers he's looking for. They just waste their time gaining useless knowledge and doing useless experiments that ultimately don't lead them any closer to the truth. It feels like this is representing the search for answers through study and research, which still leaves one without the answers to the biggest mysteries about the meaning of life or whatever.
    So the last room with Lesley is representing a religious angle to the question he's looking to answer; with the stained glass window, piano, the sense of everything being predetermined, and her having all the power and answers like some kind of higher being. She even gives him a book, like God giving humanity the Bible.
    But it's unclear to me what the ending means. Did the yellow guy really forget what the book was for, or did he decide he didn't actually want answers afterall? It would sort of seem to be the latter. Like, Red Guy at first says he likes being in the dark taking a break from the "garish colors", but then he decides he wants to go back. Also, assuming this takes place after episode 5 chronologically, he spent an entire episode trying to escape the house, only to be horrified of the reality of the real world, leading to him in this episode to be upset by the idea of anything changing and desperately trying to maintain the status quo.
    So maybe that's what's happening with Yellow Guy here? He found the answers, but is afraid of things changing so he shreds it instead? But he was going to show them before his batteries got taken out again- so is that symbolic of this being a stupid choice? And what is the meaning of the other staircase? That there's another higher truth above the one he found? What does that mean for Lesley? And WHAT ABOUT DUCK'S SHREDDER?!

    • @elijahwinchester6690
      @elijahwinchester6690 Год назад +7

    • @sixpath8260
      @sixpath8260 Год назад +8

      The other staircase is a mystery. It’s probably the real truth behind everything. Lesley controls the show, all the pieces she moves around makes things happen in their world. (Guess you can think about it like God if you’re religious.) it’s predetermined. He was going to show them what was in the book while he had new batteries, (probably tells them about everything including the other staircase) but after duck switched his batteries back to the old eroded ones he became his normal stupid self again, he didn’t have the “energy” ( it went to the house) to maintain the smart yellow guy and spread his knowledge to his friends. I seen another comment on here that makes sense, She says something like “you’re not my real son…just kidding” pretty much leading to saying that Lesley had a son named David, when duck was in the grave he said his name wasn’t David, yellow guy has a “D” on his trousers so connecting things and how DHMIS throws you for a loop, it’s possible. But yeah I wanna know more!

    Elec-Tracy was probably the best teacher they've had, just because she was genuinely kind of nice. Probably because she was cut off, but she was pretty stable through out this episode.

    It was already a masterpiece and somehow it turned into more of a masterpiece.

    "I always keep a spare." To me this all but confirms the original duck is dead. Remember the end of the coffin episode? They killed the wrong one.

    I feel like Lesley's "YOU'RE NOT NY REAL SON" statement really is a joke. It's a play on the actual show itself. We know Yellow guy is the son, that he has a father, she's playing on the mystery that old show created and making fun of it and it's story.

      maybe because lesley is the mom of david, and yellow guy was an attempt at remaking david

    Luv how the opening scene is in leslie's floor, and her doll house spinning

    I like that they made it where being dumb isn’t about not knowing things, but about the inability to articulate thoughts.
