I love that you added the pearl line, but I actually imagined this song as a conversation between Steven and Blue Diamond. Blue never got closure for Pink's death, and I saw this as Steven comforting Blue and saying that he cares that Pink died and he's sorry. Regardless of what Rose may or may not have felt or done, Steven cares about all life, even the lives of those that threaten him and his family. This was so sweet. Thank you

While listening I was thinking of Steven founding himself in a situation similar to what his mother could have lived, having to shatter an enemy, maybe even one of the diamonds, and thinking back to the people he's trying to protect, wondering if he's willing to do the sacrifice, only to realize he just can't, because he does care. This song reminds me of two characters in a fanfiction I'm writing right now. One of the characters, Bunnie, she gets random fits of violence and doesn't remember any of the things she does and she has no control over what she does when this happens, and she met a boy, his name is Fred, and he helped her to control herself and they became really close friends because he was the only person who had managed to truly get though to Bunnie. I haven't figured out the circumstances yet, but something really bad happens which causes Fred to think Bunnie is dead, and I feel like this would be something he'd write in memory of her.

She glanced at him, then up at the night sky. “Look at the stars, Steven.” “They’re beautiful, and there are so many out tonight.” “Exactly. There are so many stars. Would you even notice if one of them were to disappear?” On the last word, she turned to face him. “Would you care if one of them wasn’t there anymore?” “Connie,” Steven squeezed her hand. “Why is this making you upset?” “You are so important Steven. This really kinda speaks to me, because a lot of people don't really care about stuff they never think about, or they don't care about someone they've never met. this represents rose's legacy and everything that she left behind. this represents everything and everyone that she fought for, this represents all of the people that she had some sort of impact on. Even though she is gone, everyone can feel her presence through steven. She will still be loved and remembered because of her kind and thoughtful actions to help and save others. Im sure that greg and the gems can see a bit of rose in steven, i bet that they are proud that steven has the same thoughtfulness and compassion like rose.
I’m quite late, but this song shook me to my core upon the first listen. I then drew a chalk drawing of a candle in a dark room, and it’s one of my favorites among my pieces. Thank you, Caleb, for the inspiration.
It's sad knowing that at one point in time someone may be there but then disappear in a heartbeat and everything around you seems to keep going while you're still there in the past. Pearl never knew she would lose Rose. She always thought she'd be the one to leave but was fine with it. She was prepared to lose herself, not someone else. Greg never knew Rose would leave him after all she was immortal even when he wasn't. So he wasn't prepared when he lost her either even when she told him what would happen. But in the end Steven is there now. They lost one but gained another. And although Rose is Steven, they had to accept that Steven will never be Rose. But in the end they both love Steven and both loved Rose. They both know what they're going through. Even though Rose will never come back, they still haven't stopped caring. And in the end we know they care if one more light goes out. If they didn't then why would they fight for it in the first place. (That was the cringiest thing I've ever written) Besides that I love your voice and your covers! Keep doing what you love Caleb!!!

“Connie,” he said gently, putting his hand on her knee “Connie what’s wrong?”
She turned to face him, tears framing her delicate face. When a choked sob came out of her mouth instead of words, Steven took her face between his hands. He wiped a tear from under her eye and offered a kind smile. The smile he gave her so often, so familiar and comforting. She sighed and tilted her head down. A tear fell and hit the sand beneath her.
“I,” Connie started, “I feel so small, Steven.”
This brought a new wave of tears and she turned away, clenching her fists into her stomach, doubling over.
After a moment of thought Steven whispered, “What do you mean?”
He lied down on the beach and took Connie’s hand in his. She drew in a sharp breath, hesitating, before settling next to him. She glanced at him, then up at the night sky.
“Look at the stars, Steven.”
“They’re beautiful, and there are so many out tonight.”
“Exactly. There are so many stars. Would you even notice if one of them were to disappear?”
On the last word, she turned to face him.
“Would you care if one of them wasn’t there anymore?”
“Connie,” Steven squeezed her hand. “Why is this making you upset?”
“You are so important Steven. You, the crystal gems. Always saving the world, helping people. You matter so much. There are so many people here, making a difference, and I’m just… me.” Her voice was so soft Steven could barely hear, “What good could I ever do? What if you find someone better, Steven? What if you don’t… want me anymore?”
Steven sat up
“Don’t you say that!” he was on the verge of tears now himself. “Connie, I love you more than anything in this world! I was so alone before you came to Beach City, but you made me so happy, and you still do. You’re my best friend, my partner, my home, and I care about you so much. I don’t just want you, I need you. I need you here, with me.” His eyes glistened in the light as he wrapped her in his arms. “There are so many stars in the sky, and all of them matter, but Connie.” He pulled her closer, “In this sky of a million stars, you shine the brightest.”

OK storytime. I was driving to OMGcon this weekend and was playing your songs on Spotify. This one randomly comes up. I've never heard it before. It comes to the chorus and I'm like "OK yah this is cute and good!" Second chorus had me even better....
but man...when that connection came through near the end.... I lost it. I had to pull over I was crying so hard. Dont do that to me, lol. Spotify hit adds directly after and I was legit begging the ads to stop so something happy would play.

This really kinda speaks to me, because a lot of people don't really care about stuff they never think about, or they don't care about someone they've never met. Everyone deserves a second chance no matter how many grudges are held, everything has a right to live no matter how much someone doesn't care. Sometimes you don't realize that until something you do care about is gone.

this represents rose's legacy and everything that she left behind. this represents everything and everyone that she fought for, this represents all of the people that she had some sort of impact on. Even though she is gone, everyone can feel her presence through steven. She will still be loved and remembered because of her kind and thoughtful actions to help and save others. Im sure that greg and the gems can see a bit of rose in steven, i bet that they are proud that steven has the same thoughtfulness and compassion like rose.

It's sad knowing that at one point in time someone may be there but then disappear in a heartbeat and everything around you seems to keep going while you're still there in the past. Pearl never knew she would lose Rose. She always thought she'd be the one to leave but was fine with it. She was prepared to lose herself, not someone else. Greg never knew Rose would leave him after all she was immortal even when he wasn't. So he wasn't prepared when he lost her either even when she told him what would happen. But in the end Steven is there now. They lost one but gained another. And although Rose is Steven, they had to accept that Steven will never be Rose. But in the end they both love Steven and both loved Rose. They both know what they're going through. Even though Rose will never come back, they still haven't stopped caring. And in the end we know they care if one more light goes out. If they didn't then why would they fight for it in the first place.
(That was the cringiest thing I've ever written)
