    Thanks homie - cool insights here. Going from literally nothing (no scan, no sketches) is a critical skill to succeed in industry. Appreciate you putting this together!

    Impressively helpful and thanks for sharing. Extremely useful information and tips, especially for someone like myself who is so used to keep a tape in hand and keep measuring every single dimension. I've been struggling exponentially on anything that involved free form modelling.

    Bro. you really are my saviour. quick question I have, does Alias have a thickness option on surface like solidworks or fusion 360? If you model a car side mirror cuz the housing is mostly injection molded, how do you go about with alias since you can do complex surfacing on it keeping in mind the manufacturability and tolerances? im good in solidworks as a junior industrial designer but i want to transition into automotive modeling for production I still use the student versions but i am building a portfolio and preparing myself for an opportunity that may come in the future. what format can I export the surface body for 3D printing or to solidworks or other cad to add thickness or mold cavities for cnc n injection molding?

    Another great video! Do you think you could build clean high quality surface off of subD modeled mesh? Or would you say it is faster to do everything straight in alias?

    • @HandleBar3D
      @HandleBar3D  6 лет назад +1

      Laci Lacko that’s hard to answer because with live bolean functions, like mesh Fusion inside of modo, you can get good results. Mathematically speaking, nurbs will always have more control and be cleaner. Even though I am a huge fan of sub D modeling, I am so used to the hyper control with nurbs, I rather go straight to Alias.

    Can i ask a quick question? how do you model using symmetry ? Is the layer on symmetry or symmetry align tool? the thing is you must have a hotkey assigned or smth cuz I dont see you doing it on every curve ., as in you dont Object, duplicate it :(. Thaks! Really enjoy your vids man, real helpful stuff! :)

    • @HandleBar3D
      @HandleBar3D  5 лет назад +2

      Anon yeah theirs layer symmetry on, just enable it, right click and hold the mouse button down and enable symmetry, you can also find it under the layer menu on the toolbar.

    What tool are you using to move the surfaces?

  • @mnkrck
    @mnkrck 6 лет назад

    Awesome!
    Short question:
    Why do you rebuild your curves to degree 3 when setting up your lines in the beginning? Would it not be easier to use degree 2 curves since they are even easier to control ? I see that you use a hotkey for rebuild to degree 3 as well.
    Thanks

    • @HandleBar3D
      @HandleBar3D  6 лет назад +2

      mo pe two degrees is a too little for my liking. With three I can control the radius and lead in more.

    About the edit point curve you are using, what kind of knot spacing is it, Uniform or chord?

    • @HandleBar3D
      @HandleBar3D  5 лет назад +1

      Piao Rou I use chord but I don’t think it really matters with my workflow, since I tend to start with one degree and add cvs later

    For Class A surfacing, we should start like this? or completely should model in different way from beginning?

    • @HandleBar3D

      This is definitely class A oriented. I work in class A all the time and it’s the same theory.

    Woudnt it be easier/faster to find shapes in polygons and polishing them afterwards in nurbs?

    • @HandleBar3D
      @HandleBar3D  6 лет назад

      Josef Ludvík Böhm it’s a valid workflow. It really depends on the company. I myself have done polygon modeling inside of car studios. Personally I prefer to go straight to nurbs.

      Ken concepts Alias isn’t really a solid modeler like fusion and solid works but it can creat closed volumes that can be printed. It’s just not very quick. To do it in Alias you basically have offset the surfaces, then fix any offset error to make sure it’s closed, then surfaces the sides to make it a closed volume, then you make it a shell. I myself almost never have had to do this, but when I do I surface in Alias, export the surfaces as iges, nd use Rhino to make it solid and give it thickness.
      Just remember Alias isn’t really made for that and in terms of my career work, I can’t remember doing that more than like two three times in my 9 years.
