  • Grab some coffee and prepare yourself as I make some paper bead dangle charms today hahaha. I'm certainly not an expert at making jewelry or charms, but I still love to do it and I think they turn out very pretty. Some of my viewers requested that I show how I make my paper beads and so I thought I would bring you along this afternoon.

As my side-hustle I have been making jewelry (and show clothes for entertainers), since the late 1960s. Today I am watching RUclips videos as I power through making at least 250 pairs of earrings. (I haven't watched TV in years.) I retired from my full-time job of over 50yrs in 2020 related to '19'. I never strive for perfection. My items are handmade and I am proud of that. To date I have never had anyone complain about handmade items. (The price is a different story.) Your video was informative, entertaining, enjoyable and included humor. I cannot ask for more than that - especially since you shared your time and energy at no cost. I am a huge believer in Practice Makes Progress. I realize this video was posted years ago and you may not read comments this old but I find your personality and voice to be delightful and your unexpected bits of humor are a treat. New Subscriber.

Knitting needle Lolol. Not yarn stick. Loved this video. Lovely beads and great idea using the knitting needle to hold them. And the clear nail polish is genius. I have used Glossy accents and it was good. But messy. I like the idea of the polish. Thank you so much for sharing.

    Beautiful beads!!! Well done!!!
To maximize your pretty papers you can roll up your beads with any kind of paper, like maybe news paper, phone book pages, or store ads, etc and then roll a layer of your pretty papers on top, getting more beads out of your pretty papers.
    🍃🤗🍃 frugal tip, lol

FYI I have been making paper beads for years I have used all different types of sealers Modge Podge fingernail polish different types of resins I have found what works best and gives your paper beads more longevity and durability is a liquid wood hardener I dip all my beads into a liquid wood hardener for at least three coats drying in between each dip it is best to string your beads on fishing wire with a stopper on one end and a loop on the other so that you can hang them to dry

You've inspired me to make paper beads again.

We might not have had RUclips videos years ago but the crafting TV show with Aleene and her daughters started me on my crafting journey! I remember her making paper beads as well as "porcelain" roses out of white bread and glue. She was a pioneer! I'm enjoying your videos! ♡

You are such a darling :)
The "blue tile" bead has a gorgeous pattern.
I like to glue and coat my paper beads with simple white wood glue. It`s cheaper, you can buy it in bigger bottles, and it`s great for almost all paper projects.
In case I want very shiny beads, I add a clear coat. Otherwise, the glue does both, it glues and protects the beads. Provided you apply it the same way as a clear coat.
I`ve made quite some earring loops in my life and sometimes they still make me swear... I bet in front of a camera, I would fail miserably 🤣
Thank you for such a pleasant video!

You will be so addicted. LOL!!!! Paper beads are fun, creative and you dont need much to do it really. The tools you are using are great. Your knitting needle is very beautiful. LOL. I learned with an ice pick. Now I make my own paper bead rollers and paint my own paper. One thing is learn to eyeball your paper while you are rolling and maneuver your paper to go where you want without taking it off your needle. Just a couple tips, wet glue in a small bottle with a fine tip works best (one handed use) and try some triple thick glaze. It will not only make your beads shiny, it will also give them stability that you will love. I hope you totally enjoy this media as much as I do. You will find yourself looking at every magazine and scrap of paper before you throw them away. It is so refreshing to find someone excited about paper beads. Just keep doing them and you will get better and better at it. Good Luck. Loved the video. One other thing, I would put some glue on your paper at the very beginning as you are starting a bead. It will keep it from unraveling from the inside. Just a suggestion.

I totally get it about the Murphy's Law thing when trying to show how to do something. LOL One main reason I don't try to make how-to videos. It's hard enough when trying to show somebody something one-on-one, in person. Very pretty beads, by the way. I just started trying to make these a few days ago, and they are addicting! I started out making doggie bowties, then doggie flowers (for the dog collars), and now here I am trying to make pretty fabric and paper beads. What in the world I will do with them I have no idea, since I don't journal or do any scrapbooking or anything. Reckon I can hang them from the zippers on the purses I make. 🙂

Using bobby pins are a great tool to use when making paper beads I buy a bundle of wooden chop sticks from the Asian market next to my home 🏠. And I glue a Bobby pin on the top 🔝 of one then I use the otherbchop sticks to hold the beads while they are drying and I have a styrofoam Circle that I just poke the Chopsticks in, they just stay there till they dry.

Your videos are wonderful! For your journals you can connect your beads with yarn or crochet thread and then glue the end in the back and then mark your page. Your yarn would have to be long so your beads could hang out the bottom. This is just one of many ways to hang beads. I also love your mug rugs and quilts. You are the best. Oh by the way if you use nail polish with glitter it can be very pretty too. Thanks again - I wish I could go camping with you.

I imagine painting on a couple of light coats of polycrylic would work in ace of clear nail polish. Just a thought. I really enjoyed watching this.

I have been making paper beads for a while, and yes like you just go for it, I would cut triangular bits of paper, and glue and nail varnish, but I used cocktail sticks and put them upright on Island to dry... so much fun.. and there are templates
