  • In this video I show you how to setup dual rates and expo for your RC Planes. Dual rates can be used to give the control surfaces more throw when flying aerobatics and less for takeoff and landing. Expo is used to help smooth out the center section of the gimbal which can make a sensitive RC plane easier to control.
    Thanks for watching.

Very clear, not rushed, gabbled, using acronyms, flicking through menus too fast etc. Other contributors please take note

Thanks for the video! I found this super helpful for my glider, as I like it a bit less sensitive on landings :)

Bill, thanks for the reply. I have managed to get channels 2 and 3 ,which are the two motors on the right joy stick. This is throttle for an armortek tank. One channel is for forward/reverse, and the other channel is for left/right. Will doing a channel mix give me control of both channels as far as say, going forward etc? I am new to setting these remote controls up. I am trying to get to single stick drive. Thank you so much for your help.

Hi David, I have not set up a mix like this before. Could you please give me a link to the manual for your model so I can check how the system works. I should then be in a position to work out the mixes for you.

@the-happy-RC-flyer Bill, there really is no manual for this. When you get the option packs for the tank, there are instructions as to how to connect all the components and two wireing diagrams shoeing where connections are made. It refers to where a module is connected to what channel on the receiver. One diagram shows the two motors connected to channels 2&3. As the bower is set up, channel 2 is right, stick for one, motor, and channel 3 is left stick for one motor. All the instructions say is it assumes you will be driving the two motors with the right stick I have, somehow managed to switch the channel 1 and channel 4, witch puts the two, motors on the right stick. This leaves the left stick for other functions on the tank. I have the left stick correctly set up. On the right stick channel 2 is up/ down, and channel 3 is left/right. I know these two need to be combined. In doing so will that make both motors react the same way? You asked if this was a car, how do you drive that with this transmitter? I'm guessing that this tank will be the same. Toggle the stick up to go forward, down to reverse, and left/right to turn. I received a link from radiomaster to utube settings, but it says that it is unavailable. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Does the manual show the settings for car style radio or two gimbal radio you would use for a rc plane ?

Bill, armotek does not show anything as how you control this tank. The wiring scamatics assumes I would be driving with one stick, the right stick. Each motor is to be connected to channels 2&3 on the receiver. The left joy stick is dedicated to turret turn, and gun elevation. Armotek uses a frsky tranis x9d plus 2019 transmitter and a frsky rx8r pro receiver to test their products. It's an airplane receiver. They only state that 7 channels are needed to control the product. I have deleted everything in the boxer in an attempt to set it up again. Now, when trying to use the input configure page and get to source and select, moving a physical control, it will not go to that input. I really don't understand how it works. Thanks for your patience and time.

How do you set up a boxer to have channels 2 and 3 to have single stick driving on the right stick?

Hi David, you need to set up the mix for channels 2 & 3 with the Source Input Aileron. Is this for a car?

@the-happy-RC-flyer no, this is for an armortek tank. I have some how, set up the joy, stick for both channels, right stick for throttle, one channel up and down, the other channel for left and right. Will doing a channel mie combine the two channels give me forward/reverse/left/right? I am very inexperienced at this kind of stuff!

Thanks very much bill, very helpful. Please 2 questions. 1) WHERE did you learn this? Is there any manual to radiomaster boxer radio? 2) at 4:45 we can see your movement covers full scale, all dots. In my case it's only 60% BEFORE applying your hint of dual rates. I'm using default 'boxer' model for quads. Is there somewhere setting, which brings all to 60% or something?

Hi, I am self taught over many years. You can download the manual for the Boxer from RadioMasters website. My suggestion is to search RUclips when you want to solve a problem with EdgeTX. Dual rates, what I think you need to do is double check your settings are correct as per the video. It sounds like you have not set the switch up correctly. In your question you mentioned drones. You should not set up dual rates for drones on your radio this should be programmed in BetaFlight on to your drones flight controller. For fixed wings we can use dual rates in the radio.

@@the-happy-RC-flyer (1) self-taught? Very nice, remarkable. Thanks for sharing(and this reply) and good work (2) Maybe I'm overlooking smth, but only 'manual' I can find on radiomaster website is legally-forced pointless pdf, that you should not submerge radio under water, antenna is on the top, and that this brochure was brought to you by EU. But I found a lot of info on edgetx github, so I will read that there. (3) regarding the rates, I was experimenting with it and if I switch to heli model, it's OK there. And there are actually 2 screens displaying the axes. If I go to model page, go page>then there are stick position and switches. Next page>goes to that weird page with only 60% range and antoher page> to rrd page with axes displayed. In 2 of them I can see sticks go full motion, only in 2nd it's 60% for some reason(or less if I apply your approach). (4) I tried to setup your dual rates in radio and tested it in simulation and it worked just fine. Why shouldn't I do this for drones? Is there a reason for that? Maybe naive question, I'm still learning everyting and my drone did not yet spin any of its propes even single time. Exceptionally steep learning curve :) (5) thanks you again, and before moving forward, I need to check more of your videos :)

Are you able to bind the Volantex 400 mm warbirds with protocol V761 using this radio?

Yes it that is the protocol used by the model. V761 is available on the MPM.
