I started recording metal shows years ago for a buddy who's been stuck in a nursing home for many years. He's 48 years old and can't leave the facility. Shit I recorded most of the August 9th Lamb of God show here in Cleveland. I still watch the show. I hold my phone up and record. I get in the pit and put the death grip on my phone and get it in. I have a few dozen followers that can't make it to shows due to medical issues and they enjoy the fact that I bring the show to them via video. I don't miss any one the show recording because im not looking at my screen. Cleveland was not a band practice show. We fucking brought it beginning to end. L.O.G is one of my top 5 favorite bands and I have nothing but respect for the band .
I've been to the Rammstein concert for the last two years, and of course I also film a bit every now and then. In the past, people didn't have these opportunities to capture great memories in a pocket size. Filming entire concerts is of course nonsense. feel the atmosphere, join in with the crowd and have fun, a short video or picture here and there is totally ok/normal.
I think recording a minute or two of the odd song is completely OK or if something particularly cool is happening with pyro or stage show or a surprise guest appearance. But I definitely agree that entire fucking sets shouldn't be filmed by people in the crowd to upload for shit quality to RUclips. Nothing more annoying than being at a gig and someone has their phone up for the entire hour - 2 hour set. Saw a few comments where people are basically saying they paid so can enjoy it how they want. Whilst I see their logic. I don't think the people directly behind them should have to suffer through watching the gig through your phone. Go right to the back if you wanna film so you're not ruining the gig for others. It's kinda like there's an unspoken rule the further you are from stage the less you mosh at gigs. Should be same for people who wanna film the whole thing, closer you are to the stage the less your phone comes out
Great interview! Randy is an exciting performer, a unique and talented screamer, and a passionate man with so much to offer this world. Thank you for this interview 🙏 Ten years since Randy's last book? Jeez man time flies. Much love and respect Randy, lifelong fan of your work and your music always 🤘🏻
I saw primus last night, didn't pull my phone out once. I'm not a big picture taker especially at concerts, maybe one or 2 pics of the stage set up and I admit I recorded pantera playing I'm broken last year but generally not too many videos. My memory is pretty photographic and no picture or video is ever gonna fully capture that sense of being there and experiencing it live. That being said it is nice to watch a show I went to 20 years ago. Case in point is slayers "still reigning" live performance that was recorded in 04', that concert was insane. Watching slayer play raining blood while it rained blood on the band blew my fucking mind! ...and I'm always participating when it's lamb of God Randy, WOOOOOO!
Forget the phone.. live in the present. Memories of the concert will connect with the song, whenever and wherever [the song] its heard again. Your attention is drawn to the stage, the crowd, the weather, the sound...everything around you is THERE in the present. If you're fiddling with a phone That's the memory. You and the phone, recording a shitty copy to be heard later. To each their own. And I completely understand recording for the infirm, but when its posted online and not shared privately... you're one of them... This is the time when attention is diverted away from the present moment. I'd rather make eye contact with people around me, catch eye contact with the band on the stage. A head buried in a phone at a concert is sad... Live now! Hell, if my head was wrapped up in recording audio n video... I would have missed Fred Durst eye contact and then winking towards me. Second row at a concert is for my pleasure, my experience, and it happens in real time. That's a [visual] memory, worth keeping to myself .
You cant generalize ppl taking fotos or videos. I always take a few vids because my ADHD riled up brain forgets stuff and even full events months after they happend. Several of my friends also take videos for loved one that couldnt come. Imo taking fotos and videos is fine as long as its not the main thing ur doing. I always take videos of openings, take a few fotos and mosh almost the full rest of the event 😂
If someone just wants to take a few pictures I don't see a problem with that, that's fine, but what's weird is when people stand there and record the entire show.
🤣🤣 blyte is becoming old. You dang teenagers with your dang phones 🤣🤣 I pay €50 to see this band, and if i wanna film the whole show that is my decision. Instead of crying about it give ppl a great videoclip with a great performance you know the thing i and 3000 other ppl payed €50 for 🤷
Sure, you can bring out a chair and sit out a show, Randy, and I can, of course, no longer buy a ticket to LOG show, because it'd be no longer entertaining to watch you. We all can do something. I thank Ozzy and Lemmy for never scolding/threatening their fans and teaching them morals. These people knew perfectly what their job is/was. And it wasn't patronizing or babysitting their fans. That's not rock 'n' roll. They understood that very well, there was no misunderstanding about it. Old guys get it, newer guys not so much. Remember, for you it's your job and your income, for fans it's a completely different perspective. They come to have a good time whichever way THEY find appropriate. Not you, not anybody, they decide it. They paid for their time off. And if they want to have a camera with them, then that's the way it is. That Disturbed dude already tried to berate his own fan for holding a camera, he ended up apologizing afterwards, because she had a family emergency and the phone was crucial for dealing with the situation at home. She had kids at home and something wasn't right. How can you strip people off their families? Are you ready to take that responsibility? You're not. You once took too much responsibility on your shoulders, Randy Blythe, and ended up somewhere in Eastern Europe in a certain governmental institution. I doubt it was enjoyable at any point. I quit going to Tool as long as Maynard tried to tell me things I can and cannot do. That was unexpected and I said no, this is where it ends for me, he crossed the line he shouldn't ever have crossed. I don't need a rock 'n' roll act to teach me morals, thank you very much. That's not your place and it's not your job. Fans are not supposed to entertain you, Randy, and make your day, you are supposed to entertain them and make their day. It's the other way around. If you are so bored with the crowd that you can no longer do your job properly, then some questions must be asked. Not about the crowd. About the entertainer. Even if the crowd is slow, it's up to the entertainer to provide entertainment and fire them up. You cannot blame the people who bought your tickets that something is wrong with the show. Once you start doing that again and again, where do you get off, exactly? Do you really want to become this stereotype guy who complains about his fans, it's that regular thing he's generally known for? There is no cool in that, ever, mind you. When you start to decide how fans should have fun and you start to dictate to them, then "rock 'n' roll" in your rock is over. And it must never be over. I said this to Bruce Dickinson when I met him, I tell this to Randy Blythe. Do not be controlling figures to your fans. Remember that often when fans go to your rock/metal concerts, this is an *ESCAPE* for them from "controlling figures" at home, at their job, etc. Escape from all sorts of problems. They want to relax and have fun, forget about everything for 2 hours. Can they do that without Randy or Bruce scolding them, because they have this "scolding" stuff at home or at work in spades and they don't need Randy to add his 2 cents? When you stand there and berate them for smoking a joint or, worse, for saving the show on a camera, you become a despot, you're no longer a rock 'n' roller, a liberator. And despot is surely not something you wanna become. Embrace your essence. You're a rock 'n' roller, an entertainer, so why don't you just frickin' be it?!
Nobody cares dude. I agree phones shouldn't be allowed at shows. Why tf do I want to watch the concert with tools like you holding your fucking phone in front of my face. Stay at home, go, nobody cares bud
@@Sxecaba And its his right to be. Im also triggered. If Randy doesnt want us to film why tf doesnt he pay for arte or similar events to stream and upload it afterwards. Hell, they can even sell that stuff. Saw the scorpions and accept have their own drones in Wacken this year. I dont want to make videos. I want to have fun, but i also would like to preserve that fun and the memories through videos or fotos. I paid for it and i thinks im in my right to do it. Dont understand me wrong. Im not filming everything, maybe one or two songs from like 20 and not even the full songs, just 30 second clips. I am against videotaping the whole time. I still remember when i was front row at Amon Amarth and several ppl lost their phones bcs of moshs and crowd surfers. Funniest shit i ever experienced 😂
Thank you for watching! If you liked it, PLEASE SUBSCRIBE! I’m posting three new interviews every week!
Thanks for your job!😊
