Once I was playing with the Otomo, with an army full of Portuguese thirds and that cavalry, accompanied by some samurai with katana and naginata, I faced at least two complete stacks of the Oda in a castle without improving, send all thirds to the walls and accompany them with that dismantled cavalry and it was an absolute massacre. The Oda troops trying to climb my walls looked like US troops trying to take Omaha beach.
Otomo Donderbuss in multiplayer. Glorious. I remember one instance in a siege defense. Since your infantry can't shatter off the battlefield I used my ashigaru as cannon fodder against all those bear infantry everyone so loves. The bear infantry made it over the walls, and were attacked from one side by my ashigaru, while my donderbuss rode up beside them. Two volleys later and the enemy was routed. Enemy player didn't have time to react. Another one was a dual siege defense with my friend. We lost most of our units early on to enemy artillery and a foolhardy charge outside our walls. Then the enemy started scaling them. I guess they had just given their men orders to climb through all three walls and cap the flag, because they were walking right by my donderbuss, which I'd forgotten about. I looked back to see what they were up to and saw a massive pile of bodies in front of them. It didn't end there. One of our enemies had dismounted his general and started climbing the wall right next to a gate house. I rode out, set up, and shot-funned his entire general right off the walls. I'll never forget the joy.
Top 5 underrated unit, I would put bow Cav on mine. I think they are almost hands down beater than Yari Cav. The reason I say almost is because they are quite weak to other Cav. But the way I use my Cav both in Siege Battles and field battles is by baiting part of there army around so they are basically out of the fight. I use my light Cav this way and this bow Cav you can even kill Yari units after a good amount of time firing at each other. Opponents rarely use Cav units, and if I have to sacrifice a few Bow Cav to kill a general before any of them get close to my walls then so be it.
Yari Ashigaru provide excellent defense against enemy cavalry charges. But their tight formations leave them vulnerable to missile troops and skilled Infantry units.
6 years after, here I am commenting haha. "This unit is so powerfull you should be afraid even when you're the one controlling" Yeah, I lost almost a whole blunderbuss cavalry to a voley of my own other blunderbuss once
Do not forget about the Bullet Proof Samurai. yes they are the same armour as a naginata, but their armour stops bullets. Did tests even against modern units and they can withstand much. and they are a yari unit getting the anti cav bonus and fast charge bonus. Upgrade them right and you have a fantastic unit.
I don't think you get the premise of this video. It's not a video about the best units, it's a video about the most powerful units, I explain this pretty clearly at the start of the video.
I think that if you use the Hanzo's demons correctly you can devastate a lot of unmounted units before you even get into melee combat, and when you do get into combat they usually come out doing quite well. But, for cavalry I think that the Spears Of (Shizukage?) are really good units if also used correctly. But I could agree that these guys you listed are still pretty damn good. But I never found the donderbuss to be that hard to fight. I used to have them as cavalry units when I played for the Ottomo as enemies and I usually had a pretty good win against them. I suppose if you are in a skirmish with unmounted units they are a nightmare, they usually get chased off my my cavalry.
I don’t think you get the point of this list though. It’s not about how good a unit is overall or how easy they are too use, it’s about which units can deal the most amount of damage in the shortest amount of time, I thought I explained that pretty well.
Honestly this is the only reason I use matchlock infantry despite their late-game access. It's satsifying to hear the volleys of guns, men die in droves, and they rout shortly after. (No Otomo DLC yet)

Odachi/nodachi were used but not in the manner shown in shogun 2. These ken/sword were usually 2 to 2 & 1/2 Kg's in weight very hefty with the length shy of 60inches generally/just under 6 foot. A nodachi is a scaled hefty Tachi being a Cavalry/infantry Great sword as Tachi is the Chinese character for big blade essentially. Generally not too big a fan. Portuguese Tercos are good, and so are most of the units that use other types of guns, such as the Shimazu Heavy Gunners and Otomo Donderbuss Cavalry. Generally I think Matchlock units aren't too amazing though, especially with the Fire by Rank ability not working properly.
Sure, they've got their uses, but generally for me it's not worth investing the time it takes to meet their recruitment requirements. I usually finish the campaign before I'd even get close to unlocking any kind of gun units since they're fairly far down my list of priorities. I'd only ever really get them to spice things up, but only if it's with a faction in which it fits the theme, otherwise I care even less.
Besides the fact that they're one of the worst units in the game, they aren't powerful at all. They don't destroy a unit in a charge or even with a throw of their fire bombs. That was what this video was about, the only thing that mattered is how quick a unit can kill.

Meaning units that can deal an insane amount of damage in a short amount of time. Yari Ashigaru are not that type of unit, they are very strong in many aspects, but they don't kill hundreds of enemy men in a matter of seconds. I hope this explains it.
First of all, the top 5 worst units is an older video where I made a mistake placing them, as I rectified a week later by making a follow up video and making a pinned comment in all caps on the original video that leads to the video talking about how I made a mistake. Secondly, this video isn’t “best” units. It’s “most powerful”, as I clearly described at the start of the video. I have a “best units” video as well that goes over the 5 best units overall. This list goes over which units kill the fastest which again, you would’ve known had you not skipped the intro.
Excuse me what the hell? where are the Yari samurai? i'll have you know they STOMP whatever is thrown their way they are cheap too making them an excellent fighting unit I am giving this video a dislike as I feel you did not give the Yari Samurai the place they deserved
