I have Asperger's Syndrome, and I was never offended by Derpy! She's one of my favorite background ponies.
Same. When I had the opportunity to meet Tabitha at Everfree NW I asked her to sign a Derpy poster I'd bought in the vendors hall. It was a tough choice as Rarity and Luna are both wonderful characters but Ponyvilles favorite mailmare just speaks to me a little more.
Same, dude! What is wrong with these people?!
+Elijah Foltz Who knows? Some parents are just made to complain about every little insignificant thing, I guess. People get offended by everything these days. Besides, Derpy's scene at the beginning of the episode was adorable.
Exactly the same her :)
Same. Funny how people think they can speak for us when we can do it ourselves.
Josh, it wasn't fans who reacted negatively. It was mainly moms who reacted negatively.
Also, in my review for "the perfect pear", I questioned how Granny Smith felt about Cherries. Which begs the question.... If granny hates Cherries as much as she hates pears, would she feel absolutely heartbroken and betrayed that AJ worked for a Cherry farmer?
Melon Tart what about adults moms? would they care about this show at all?
She would at first be angry but then accept it. I mean her son married a pear.
not only was it moms, it was 10, just 10 people who sent in angry letters. there were over 200 positive response letters, but 10 negative ones. ~
@@HarukoHoshiko so Hasbro changed Derpy because LESS than 1% of the letters they got were mad, *facepalm* Hasbro shouldn't listen to stupid parents like that
I thought the parents were upset about Derpy and not the fandom. After they changed Derpy that was when the fandom got upset, isn't that what happened?
Yes
oh okay then
yep
Yeah josh got his info wrong on this one
That was my understanding at the time yes
Wait, the fanbase got upset? I thought it was moms of child viewers that made the whole kerfuffle. I've never seen anything but support for Derpy.
Nathanael Unger
it was sjws spearheaded by a user by the name of yamino
ImmaLittlePip This is the same Lord Zedd debacle from the 90's all over again! The producers should ignore SJWS from now on.
What was the Lord Zedd debacle?
Did someone actually complain about Lord Zedd being too scary?
When he was introduced, Lord Zedd cut no slack, to anyone, he was intimidating, evil, and threw Rita out of the moonbase, his putty patrollers kicked the ranger's asses, and Goldar, Baboo and Squach were all terrified of him, he was a badass, then, a bunch of douchy parents, soccer moms and whatanot, SJWs before they were called that, complained he was "too scary" then they (the writers) had Rita use a love potion on him and he was pathetic for the rest of the show, look for the scene where he is introduced, compared to how he was after the love potion, there is a big difference.
The "I'm Southern" joke immediately made me laugh. For all those who live down south, I apologize
Ian Brennan I’m in the south but it’s funny joke
Ian Brennan I live in the south, and I thought that joke was funny.
It only made me laugh because the banjo piece he used was the Jiggy jingle.
Ok… I’m southern, and I actually know people like that so…
I am beyond disappointed and my day is ruined, all because of that joke, but it wasn't a joke because there supposed to be funny, not be disrespectful to people that live in that state.
Josh, I don't think the fans were the ones sending the hate and threats, I know personally that at least half of the equation doing that was the perpetually offended on Tumblr. The other ones I remember were soccer moms.
Oh, ya mean the folks that preach love and toleration while belittling those who have different views? Folks that have such a hard-on for God that they'll protest against the Pride Parade happening at DISNEY of all places?
People whose inability to take a joke cost John Lennon; someone not only labeled "The Funny One", but was preaching love in a time of war, his life?!
Soccer moms they complain about everything remember silent night deadly night
@@joinmarch76 as somebody who thinks pride parades are wrong I think that protesting against them can get nasty. If you start insulting somebody you're doing it wrong. I'm not sure where I stand on protesting against them though because I would hate it if somebody protested against Christianity and well "do unto others as you would have done unto you"
@@joinmarch76 Also the bible is most certainly not just love and tolerance. There are things that are wrong and Christians have been told to spread the gospel. But telling people to go to hell for being LGBT+ is just wrong
@@joinmarch76what you described are Karens
I understand what Applejack felt in this episode. It's hard when you have people counting on you to win something or to get on some team, because you don't want to let them down. It stresses you out way more than the thing itself does, and then if you don't make it you feel horrible. I'm glad you brought that up, because that is a hard and real problem.
Honestly, The episode was good in my opinion, but as for Derpy I absolutely loved her scenes. To have her make an appearance with a speaking role made my day and made me think the creators were listening to us. When I heard they changed Derpy into something she wasn't because of some overly sensitive douchebags that were offended by it and ruined the fun for everyone else, I was very much upset by that and it evolved to the point where I didn't like those kinds of people. There was nothing offensive about Derpy. She was adorable and made a lot of fans laugh. I would tell those people to get over it and move on.
I know, right? Nobody complained about Snails! Or Goofy! Or Bizarro from Superman! The douchebags are just sexist!
First time I've ever read anyone bringing up Bizarro, but yes I agree with you. As for Snips and Snails, I have plenty have reasons to complain about them. And Goofy, his name says it all.
Um actually yeah they kinda did when he was in the comics Bizarro was but it was more for how Superman back then still Superboy if I recall right had needlessly done away with Bizarro do to not even caring to see if this being was good or not. All that mattered to Superboy was like ''Oh hes different must be evil and he is unnatural so double evil must get ride of him'' when in truth he was a flawed copy with a Frankenstein monster thing that Superboy instigated and had keep instigating till Bizarro more or less became evil from how Superboy was treating Bizarro . Atleast comic wise was how he came about and was treated for the longest time
I understand people complaining about "do away with the handicapped character", because that IS something I'd complain about, too, because that's essentially what happened to Derpy! T_T
Bizarro is handicapped both mentally and physically and even though he was named by an evil guy that name stuck and *that* name *is* an insult, because the evil guy actually intended to insult his handicapped-ness.
Um no he isn't physically handicapped unless you mean appearance wise as he in his first comic debut when talking about earthwise had all of Supermans powers, But as I said if I recall right in Bizzaros case comic wise he was treated evil from the get go by Superboy when Bizzaro wanted to just be nice . But then again I can be recalling that latter fact on Superboy wrong because one I haven't read the comic in a long time and two Superboy and his adult self Superman for some reason in the old days at a point in the comics tended to be written as a dick and cruel for little to no reason
As for Derpy the fandom was going for the classic ''Ditzy Klutzs blonde screw up type'' sterotype and well I feel the staff was going for that as for years before and after Derpy was around we still have that sterotype of blondes in media that act even WORSE then Derpy ever did but no one complains about them because its ''A comedic thing nothing realistic'. Add the fact Granny Smith for the longest time we seen her at her worst in the show to the point you'd think she has some disability like dementia that is commonly seen in eldery people atleast when you are saying who tend to have that . Yet then we seen it was just we was seeing her on the days she was at her worst. So they wasn't going for disability based ,besides if you get rid of Derpy for perceived medical issiu they never should have put that OC that had that wheelchair thing going on as it was stated that pony couldn't walk from a physical disability do to legs. Really its bullshit if you are going to remove one that you think is disabled then don't put another in that is truly disabled in another way.
Another issue is it was the name she first had that was why everyone attacked Derpy over not anything else as said on this ''Ditzy Blondes who screw up a lot in similar or worse way '' before this show and after was left alone, add that to the complaining thing that had death threats was spearheaded by someone who more or less was a confirmed SJW working with like minded Soccer Moms and other idiots
I know this isn't the main point of this episode, but I do love your little talk about Derpy, she is a good character who i think could have been a great benefit to the series, kids with problems could look up to her, I mean she is one of the most beloved ponies in MLP. Just think of all the lessons they could have done with her. sorry if this got a little off topic,
i find her adorable as well =)
ZEADPOOL1991 She is pretty klutzy, but in a way, she reminds me of myself. I'm not all there in the brain either, and my mind goes about a million places while I'm doing something important. So, yeah. She and I share the same problem. Plus, come on! How adorable is she?
very adorable, =)
yeah it was a combo of soccer moms and some kind of copyright BS ( cant remember the full details ) . Special Snowflakes ruin everything
I don't like how Josh made it look like the episose was making her look like a "menace". The context of that scene made it perfectly clear that Derpy was helplessly clumsy at times that which unfortunately cause a few accidents left and right (context really matters). She obviously doesn't mean any of what she does and it's clear the townfolk don't show much hostility towards her because they recognize that exact quirk from her.
Also, Rainbow Dash was not acting condescending or disrespectful at all. It looks almost like it, but it's her just being skeptical and a bit put-out by Derpy's clutzy nature and how she tends to goof up every now and so. The episode heavily implied that Dash knew Derpy prior to the events of the episode and was already familiarized with her antics not to mention she destroyed the top part of town hall (unintentionally of course) so Dash I'd say is justified in reaction. Plus, it's fucking Rainbow Dash we're talking about here so of course she's most likely going to have an annoyed reaction. If it was any other mane 6 they'd definitely would've been gentler and understanding.
As someone who is crossed eyed. and actually lame I didn't give damn.
Why are you using "lame" like that? Basically _nobody_ uses it like that anymore.
Irony
@@MxPokirby wooosh
It wasn't the fans who reacted that way, but mostly soccer moms and sjws who caused this. As for the impact for derpy and the stuff about people with autism looking up to Drax or Julia, made me tear up a bit. I have Asperger's Syndrome and ADHD and while I've done a lot of accomplishments, it's still not easy. I act like a klutz sometimes, my mind goes all over the place, and sometimes I forget something a person tells me and thus I'm scared I might mess up because I couldn't remember a certain detail they told me. To see characters with similar interests shown in a positive light, made me very happy and teary eyed a bit, showing despite what I have, I'm still capable of doing great things, despite even the doctors who diagnosed me when I was like 2 that I wouldn't amount to much.
ShadwSonic Nothing's more fun than making those doctors look like complete morons on how wrong they were ;)
i am autistic and i am not offended about derpy and i still love her
that which also means i have autism
I also have autism and never once thought Derpy was offensive... though to be honest, it never really occurred to me she was disabled (at first at least) and was edited by the mlp crew cause of a bunch of moms
Truth be told I dont think it was the fandom who got offended
Derpy is the most beloved background pony in the show
I believe it was a certain group of moral busy bodies most likely on the Tumblr side of the internet (sjws) that had a spit.
That, and overly protective parents.
ImmaLittlePip Oh great, the clods who screwed up Lord Zedd in MMPR are still around.
SJWs: The internet's big bad boogeyman to blame ALL misfortunes on!
u r not a lilpip
Political Correctness Gone Mad
It wasn't the fans who reacted poorly. In fact, it was the opposite. Look up any reaction video of this episode, and you'll see the fans be just about besides themselves with excitement. It was more along the lines of people who didn't know about the fandom and the significance of the character to said fandom who thought Derpy was a jab a people with special needs.
OBJECTION!
The fans weren't the ones primarily voicing complaints against the depiction of Derpy, it was an email campaign orchestrated by the seething horde of stay at home moms who's sole purpose in existence is to be offended by ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME. It's called the One Million Moms, and seriously, they have never showed support for anything, only utter disdain, anger and offence. Don't believe me? Look at some of the backlash they've given out over Steven Universe.
TL;DR, The fans didn't send death threats, alcoholic stay at home moms did.
(edited for spelling errors)
Let me guess, their complaints stem solely from Steven being the poster child of the show when in all honesty it's the Crystal Gems (the girls) who are the real characters of focus, with Steven as a supporting character? The only reason Steven even got so much focus and his name in the show, was because at the time Cartoon Network wasn't willing to gamble on a show with female leads, even going so far as to cancel "Tower Prep" because it was selling to girls and not boys. Without Steven, the show wouldn't have been greenlighted.
Hijiku Brynjar First of All parents do not care what their kids watch (cus its just a kids show) as long as it doesnt show a disabled or gay person Thats why spongebob episodes like one coarse meal of demolition doofus were allowed to air unscathed by parents (though the internet tore them apart). 2nd their have been far more offensive potrayles of stupid characters like the Breadwinners, or Fanboy and Chum Chum, and Especially Patrick (who literally walks into danger mindlessly, does not care about his friends, and is shown to be so stupid that he almost gets Gary killed in one episode by chasing him with a flamethrower to get him to take a bath and tring to dry gary, a snail, off with SALT, huh maybe Mr.Enter shouldn't of rereviewed that episode to be nicer). And 3rd stupid and clutsy characters are very common. So I don't think it was parental outcry.
Looks like someone else is a fan of Phoenix Wright.
They literaly said it back then on twitter and even during some conventions that it was because they got hate emails from parents that got offended by the word derp that has a double meaning and at this point this is common knowledge in the fandom so no you are wrong. Not to mention it would make no sense for a fan to get mad at the show staff for changing derpy when they said themselves right after the change that they had no choice because of angry sjw.
I thought it was because of Soccer moms?
Takumi Doutou it was them
it was
Takumi Doutou first they ruin Thomas and the magic railroad by removing pt boomer and now THIS...whatever will they ruin next
I know it's supposed to be "Here we go down Controversy Boulevard at 88 mph with no brakes" but I heard "Here we go down Controversy Boulevard at idiot mph with no brakes".
...
How could anyone find Pinkie Pie annoying?
She is so happy, bouncy, endearing and utterly fucking adorable and innocent?
Oh wait, bias cause all time favorite pony....
Tristan Alain She is funny
That's pretty common thought, people just see her as annoying and nothing else since she is comedic. Josh has a habit of just not liking her in general though, I wouldn't trust anything he says about her.
I just started college this year, and this was a moral that I almost forgot about. I became so worried of not disappointing everyone that I forgot my friends and family care more about my well-being than my accomplishments. I'm just saying this because I wanted to connect with the episode itself and not the controversy.
Also Derpy is adorable.
I dunno if this is going to be taken back for correction, but the fans (at least in my unresearched opinion) weren't the ones to shove Derpy back into the writers' and animators' faces. It was the moral guardians who watch this with their little girls and are scared that "derp" was the new swear word or something, because we're in the age of social justice and similar mindsets.
Not trying to crucify you, Josh. Really. Maybe an edit later when you're able to? I'd rather you be more accurate.
It's amazing how easy it is to avoid controversy if you just don't listen to a few self-righteous, weak, insolent morons who choose to be offended rather than minding their own business.
"Choose" to be offended? Are you sure you're old enough to have a RUclips account?
Mr. Pokirby you're talking to a guy who makes funny anime cracks
Or to say,
*_"who choose knowingly to be offended (on someone else's behalf) rather than having an open mind._* ;''3
Unless said morons get a hold of daddy's money and sue you. But what are the odds of that ever happening?
And if they win? Well, the news of THAT little debacle (and more importantly who was responsible) would DEFINITELY get out to the fans of the show. And given WE kind of created her... let's just say inciting the wrath of a majorly invested fanbase like this is a BAD idea. Countersues, for one thing. Names being dragged through the mud for another.
Heck, if that HAD happened, it might've been a wake-up call to SJWs everywhere that their actions AREN'T WELCOMED BY THEIR "PROTECTORATES"! Unlikely, but a guy can dream...
It wasn't the fans that wrote Hasbro to take Derpy out. It was mostly the sjws, the haters and people who didn't know Derpy like we do. After the removal of Derpy, the fandom was pissed. For 2 years, we fought to bring her back. During that time, we created songs dedicated to her. In 2014, she came back in Rainbow Falls. Derpy made the message clear: no matter how hard you try, Derpy is here to stay.
It's nice seeing a fresh look at an earlier season. Thanks for the look back!
Poor raincloud. They'll never accept you for what you are.
Also, people are always connecting Pinkie to Deadpool because of the 4th wall breaking, but I never noticed until just now that there was another connection with the "Chimichangas"
The little talk about Derpy is 100% true Josh. Good on you for clearing that up
That Derpy scene was left uncensored in the Friendship Express DVD.
Sonic Gamer
Yay!
JESUS JOSH, I didnt need to see that fanart of Derpy being erased! I'm only just recovering from Infinity Wars here...😥
Oh and also I love your work.
"All of that pressure hurts more than it helps."
Uh... Josh, Buckball Season would like to have a word with you.
I like how Josh was out of focus most of the video on *This* particular episode review. A mistake, within a mistake, within a mistake. It's perfect!
Derpy was not just almost completely cut out of the episode because of that, she was almost cut out of the show completely because people found her offensive.
Geezz. This has to be one of the most sentimental review ever. Good job Josh.
I like Derpy both in her first speaking appearance and in her revival as 'Muffins'. She's a very cute mare and it's nice to see so much creativity come from what was considered a little mistake.
By the way, thanks for mentioning that bit with the kid looking up to Drax. Stuff like that really warms my heart.
Josh the derpy speech hit me because I actually have optimism and anger issues and i have sensitive ears so loud sounds make me cry
i think the "take a shot" joke in the description should have been "take a shot every time josh gives someone a cookie."
Well done having a balanced perspective on the "Controversy".
Plenty of content creators for plenty of fandoms seems to be perfectly happy to rile up the fandoms in a crusade against whatever opinion is currently popular. This was a refreshing change.
"They put Derpy in because they were trying to be nice. They changed it for the same reasons."
I'm fed up of seeing certain producers and show runners portrayed as "LITERALLY WORSE THAN HITLER", even if their position is perfectly understandable. I may not agree with it, but its hardly politics: its fairly obvious there's no malice intended.
I don’t watch the show, (hell, I’m not even part of the community. I just started binging the playlist a few days ago) but just seeing Derpy for the first five seconds makes her my favorite character of all ponydom.
(I also have Asperger’s Syndrome, so hearing that shoutout to Drax and his fan makes me feel seen)
Love the Japanese writing in there, Josh :-)
Wow, I was not expecting to see a clip from Stoked here lol. Great review as always, Mr. Firebrand!
Holy cow! You used a clip from Stoked in this review! I LOVE Stoked!
I sense a rainbow Alicorn being triggered in the distance. Oh well, probably nothing to worry about.
Nice intro, Josh! Nice to see a review for a Season 2 episode.
MAJOR Props for not making a Deadpool Reference. :D

Wow, Josh when a hole video without getting hit with something! Good job!
On the derpy topic, I grew up with a Tropia until I eventually had it corrected. And it made me very upset because Pictures I would come out cross side or with one of my eye centered and the other going into my head. I remember when I was little I did look up to Derpy, and it made me feel good that I wasn’t alone.
I lost my shit when derpy spoke, it was quite a nice surprise thank you for talking about her
That's like banning goofy for being Well Goofy.
ironically his original name was Derpy Dog
I really relate to Applejack in this. I once had a very similar situation - I went abroad and instead of achieving success, I failed hard. I ran away in a very figurative way - I stopped contacting my family out of shame, trying to fix things quietly and alone and secretly only destroying myself more. And when my family finally caught up with me... they welcomed me back and gave me so much support regardless of my failure, I will never forget it. I LOVE this episode, and nothing can change it.
I'd be offended by Josh's southern impersonation if it weren't at least half true
Thanks for addressing the issues, Josh.
Whuhu a new episode review :D
Scooter Mom's fault
To me, she'll always be Derpy, and changing her voice because of this controversy is actually more of offensive than how she use to be.
7:22 Lies, you only spent about 38% talking about Derpy, and not the required 60% of the review!
Side note; I may not be a brony, but I’m happy to say I was one of the few who was able to see the original version on TV. I tried to give a show a chance, and lo and behold it was this episode.
Honestly, Derpy's original voice sounded EXACTLY like what I had always envisioned.
But she lied! Everyone knows that each pony is infallible in their element, and never needs to be tested in it!
*Josh talks about derpy and how people were treating her disability representation*
Me: .............................
*turns to Scoottaloo*
Me: So did they just forget about you
Scoottaloo: Yep
It's Called
Pudding the Pan on the
Hot Plate, BEFORE Catchign the Fish.
2:39 The fanbase was fine with Derpy, but the moral guardians (specifically one soccer mom) got upset because "derp" is apparently a word with negative connotations, something only a few people in the fandom and nobody on the show's staff knew (possibly because of how the word came into popularity and them being more in-tune with Internet culture).
The morality police got their way, resulting in artistic censorship, which got the fans upset and a controversy ensued. Your condescension is misplaced.
ill´take the focus as a intentional derp
13:54 Good for one hug This is what sitcoms call "a schmaltzy ending"-- a sentimental capper to leave the audience feeling good.
Usually followed by a little coda to cut the treacle. 14:09
Ok. Im just gonna say it.
I personally think that if we focused on more than just the main six, G4 might have been alot better
Your analysis on Derpy was spot on and touching! I'm so glad she's still a prominent member of the show! Especially in Season 7 so far.
When they changed Derpy, and when there were rumors that she would no longer be in the show...I almoat quit the fandom. But she came back and I am still a Brony to this very day.
Here's your answer to making a cherychanga.
Step 1: Make your own cherries and syrup.
Step 2: Make crepes to substitute for tortilla.
Step 3: Get any other thing you might want to add such as whipping cream to stiffen the cherry filling.
Step 4: Wrap the ingredients in the crepe.
Step 5: Ask Pinkie Pie if you got it right.
You make it by, according to Pinkie Pie, mashing cherries up and putting them in a deep-fried tortilla.
A Royal Problem? :D This is one of my favorite episodes though, thanks for reviewing it!
it was the PARENTS who had a problem with derpy josh, do some RESEARCH
derpy...your clumsiness someday destroys the whole world...but i still will love you :)
A shot per second of wow I’d be drunk
Also being southern I find your jokes about it to be a bit insulting
11:29 And just like that, Gypsi Bard returns to me like an old friend.
This is now my favourite episode and Derpy is my favourite pony.
Best ending explosion ever
I forget about the plot of this episode every time; All I remember about it is that Derpy is in it.
I love how Josh admitted to his own derp in the description bow... derp I meant 'box'
*Josh:* "How do you make a cherry changa?"
*Me:* Oh no! You asked for it!!!
*Pinkie:* "Cherry Changa is mashed up cherries in a tortilla that's deep fried. Cherry Changa! Great name huh? Maybe I should call it a chimicherry. Ooh that's good too!........."
Wait, you know Stoked enough to use it in a video. Never tough I'd see the day a you tuber using clip from that show.
Derpy's first words: "Oopsie!"
13:07 anyone else notice the Unicorn next to Derpy's theoretical daughter? Could that actually be her dad? And if so, I'm surprised this didn't turn into a couple fanfics.
Josh, I am a teenage boy with Aspergers Syndrome. I heard what u said about representing special needs children, and I wholeheartedly agree. All that's left to say is thank you Josh. Thank you
This is gonna be a fun one.
You see I have a lazy eye or "cross eyes" as well and I'm a bit self-conscious bout. When I saw durpy,I loved it. It made me realize that there might've been others who had this disability. And it kinda started to make me like my messed up eyes. I love durpy and no matter what you can't change my mind that she is best background pony next to the dr
Derpy, Offensive? NEVER
This is my personal pick for funniest episode. All the humor in the last third is classic.
Someone please explain to me why people bully and send death threats to the VOICE ACTORS as well as the writers?
Derpy Hooves was presented this way because of the WRITERS’ decisions. The voice actors were just told what to do, they didn’t have any say in it.
It’s not just here too.
I’ve seen in other fandoms where the actors are bullied more than the writers for something the writers were responsible for.
So why are people lashing out at the actors that had no say in how something was written? Is there a legit reason or are people so blinded by hate, they’d attack anyone involved with that hate?
and no one's offended by Clumsy Smurf.
no true fans got angry, they got angry at hasbro being forced to censor the episode
Derp as oops. I gotta admit, Oopsie Hooves is an adorable name
you get a cookie, you get a cookie, everyone gets a cookie!
Well i remember subscribing to this channel a loong time ago
now i need to rewatch all of the videos that i lost and didint watched
Cherry changas are basically cheese blintzes covered in cherry pie filling
FOCUS THE CAMRA ON YOURSELF!
I like how incredibly condescending Josh sounds when he says "nice job _ have a cookie!".
In the words of FiW, "Where're the Nano's?"
My headcanon is that in the uncensored version Derpy just had a cold or was congested
That moment when he said
Wheel of Controversy
I said wheel of death, man I watch to much TFS
I had noticed the camera focus after the rant could say it was a "derp"
I thought it was parents who caused derpy to get changed. I love derpy. She will always be derpy
DERPY IS BEST PONY
I refuse to believe that references to old shows are "Parental Bonuses" (it's not impossible for kids to have watched "I Love Lucy" - just unlikely), but this was an excellent review.
The Derpy stuff was so well explained, and really beautiful. It's nice to hear a mature way of explaining it, especially one that explains both sides - even if it still took the side of keeping her as she was (which I agree with.) I could be wrong, but I think one of the reasons the Derpy thing got as bad as it was, is because the brony fandom reacted with anger rather than doing what you did, and calmly explaining why Derpy wasn't offensive (I may have just been looking at the darkside of the fandom) and it seemed to be where the whole "Hasbro hates us!" thing started, which is completely wrong.
