      Actually we was driving to the mountains and we kept seeing so many lonely vending machines and thought would be cool to make some sort of intro. Just made it all up as we went along 😆 we not the clever to plan something. Doesn’t even make sense? Wrapped a bottle in paper and he opened and drank it and then his clothes turned to snowboard clothes 😆 makes no sense

    Haha great stuff guys! So nice to see Justin in this finally, and those long awaited pow shots actually turned out so good!! Great riding too, as always. Also, frickin cracked me up that all the shots to be cut on either side were kept in, lol, bloody hysterical! 😂 Fun to see the military shots too. They were always out skiing when I was living in central Hokkaido and it was nice to see that shared, always interesting.

      Yeh the aim of this episode was just to have fun and not be too serious about the snow conditions in Japan. Many people were complaining this season but I was just thinking, damn! The snow here is still awesome even if it just in the groomed runs. Japan is always fun powder or not.
      The problem is people come here thinking they have pre paid for the ultimate powder experience 😂 it’s an island surrounded by ocean that any slight wind change brings a while different weather forecast.
      The powder that we did get in this video was pretty nice, wasn’t deep but I was living the icy layer underneath for ease of gliding and exploration capabilities without getting stuck.
      Bring on next season aye 🤙

    Wow, what happened to JAPOW? Is it still snowing a lot in Hokkaido (more north)? California on the other hand (Tahoe Area) is getting a lot of snow (several feet in the past 7 days).
    Is an El-Nino year generally a bad situation for snow in Japan? Better snow during La-Nina years?

    • @RyanSnowPhotographer
      @RyanSnowPhotographer  9 месяцев назад +2

      Well actually I just drove down south in the snowiest week this winter 😂 timing aye.
      Yeh El Niño isn’t so good for snow over here but actually we still get a tonne of powder when it does snow but what ruins it this winter is when the south winds come up and melt all the snow but this is actually good for the surf down where I live in the south.
      The Japanese ski resorts aren’t so high and are so close to the ocean so the snow condition changes so fast for sure.
      2019 was similar to this season but I think next season La Niña is in the forecast 🤩

    Nice photo shots at APPI Kogen. I’ve spent a week there every year for the past 7-8 years, because I have in-laws relatives there to visit. I must say this year is without a doubt the worst snow conditions I’ve experienced. There was even a day when it rained, something I’ve never seen at APPI Kogen. Maybe I’ve been lucky until now, but I’m hopeful conditions will be better next year. Hopefully you’ll have another chance to go visit, and have better snow too. Again, liked those photo shots.

      Ah cheers man 🤙 yeh I was there last year too and it was -18, was getting frozen fingers trying to shoot.
      This year has been crazy all around Japan. Even in December I was surfing in Miyazaki and it was 25 degrees 😆
      Snowboarding is always fun but raining on the mountain is the worst 😂

    4:07 what's that ? Instant wax ?

    • @RyanSnowPhotographer
      @RyanSnowPhotographer  4 месяца назад +1

      yeh in Japan there are so many awesome different waxes to use due to the snow temp constantly changing here. This one in specific is great as i can layer on a then use a cork stone to polish (cork creates the friction to heat up and let the board absorb wax more) But there is also spray wax here, rub on wax, and liquid wax.... A sponsor sent me a big kit at the end of the season which i will make a video in my workshop this autumn with snowboard prep

      yeh Japan gets a crazy amount of snow but because it’s an island surrounded by ocean and the mountains are not very high there becomes humidity in the air which can create the snow temperature to change throughout the day. This is very specific to Honshu. Hokkaido is way colder and different snow too
