- Опубликовано: 2 авг 2024
- There was a time when being in a gay relationship in Australia meant you could be sent to prison, or even sentenced to death. For decades Australian laws criminalised homosexuality until social movements, dedicated law reform activists, and some key events changed everything. Find out about the laws and history around gay rights and what members of a high school Pride Club have to say about attitudes today.

why was I still terrorised by cops in Cruising areas into the early 2000's in Victoria??
The real question is why ABS News is asking this question on a good done deal ???
After watching the video from Vice news and parts of this, I think will refrain from travel abroad. Super sad because I really wanted to visit!
Unfortunately you didn't cover the fact that the age of consent is not equal between states. Most states the age of consent is 16 and yet South Australia and Tasmania still have the age of consent set for 17. South Australia used to be progressive and Tasmania has often seen backwards and yet both of them can't keep up with the age of consent across the country. You shouldn't have people in a situation where they can get in trouble purely because the age of consent has changed when you cross the border. I think the age of consent should probably be set by federal government not state government as this is a thing that affect all people regardless of the state they live in.

Still been attacked online and cyber espionage on me,
What a national discrace
Unfortunately you won't be able to eliminate bully towards the gay community in schools, ever probably. There is just too much going on in society, in families, kids brain development, peer pressure, cultures etc. As the young people said, it's best to ignore bullying and report it to teachers. I know theres a push to be able to express yourself however you like at whatever age you want, but honestly, just wait quietly until you're passed highschool, then literally no one cares if you're gay.
That is simply not true. With the right education, and with broader societal change, the school can be a supportive environment. I worked as a school teacher for many years and have seen real progress.
And as for 'literally no one caring if you're gay'.... that's exactly what we are asking for.
And no, we won't be quiet, thanks.
Yeah.... that's a BIG *No* to waiting quietly. They gave the same advice to women and people of colour before they gave it to the LGBTQ community and it's never worked. Speak up. Say something. Don't accept anything that's not good enough. The bullies don't have to, why should you? That's the whole point of PRIDE; it's the opposite of shame and hiding in the shadows.
@@dama9150 As someone commented below 'there's no need to declare your sexual orientation', that's what I meant about being quiet. I didn't mean to stay in the corner and be invisible. No one has any business to know which way you swing. I honestly find it inappropriate to do so. Its like that meme about Vegans who make it their daily business to tell everyone they don't eat meat.
@@Bathrezz1 When we have a situation where gender and sexuality is genuinely respected and not relevant, then we will not need to talk about it. But we are not at that point, so we need to be outspoken so that people learn that it is normal. As such this issue is not comparable to the vegan religion.
thank you leavening comments on. (anti gay laws are kinky broken, like why did ppl care so much)
Well, they are left on to get a rise.
@@dama9150 walk softly please. its a fine line to walk with ABC, lets not get them turned off
Thanks ABC for deleting my comments
ABC didn't delete your comment--blame RUclips if you absolutely need someone to blame
😂
I wonder what you said 🤫
@@joey9562 exactly
Now you have a whole new ball game thrown at you
Its called
Surgery decapitation and danger in the ladies looo
Why go to all the effort of chopping off tackle to run amok in a ladies looooo 🤨 That narratives been debunked.
People are free to do what they like in their personal space
Its rude and disrespectful to gather in the street with crutchless undies on making revolting gestures and disregarding other people who are not like you
If you want people to accept you for who you are don't flaunt yourself or try to protest to impress your sexuality preferences on them as you would not like them to impress their sexuality preferences on you
Acceptance of each other's differences works both ways
And it's not a culture change in 2023 it's a behaviour change and bad behaviour is never acceptable
How about you do you, and stop projecting your insecurities about yourself onto others.
You watch this video and you didn't understand that it is not a preference?
Grow up and stop projecting the behaviour of a few, over all sexualities and gender identities, onto one group.
@@usebiodiesel probably ...I've never seen such disgusting behaviour as there is now
@@dama9150 I dont have insecurities I'm happy with the gender I was born I'm not trying to be something I'm not
It still amazes me one feels the need to declare their sexual orientation? It's private and should remain so. Live and let live. By feeling the need to declare it, is saying, I'm not comfortable when you should feel comfortable, whatever way you lean. Effectively, don't make life difficult for yourself by feeling the need to explain to anyone. It's none of their buisness 🤔
@@joey9562 Who cares what people assume? Do you up front tell people your sexual orientation "Hi id like to book an app with the dentist, also im gay".
@@NathanCroucher just proved his point with your typical heteronormative response.
@@NathanCroucher
No but I don’t hide it either. Is the dentist cute and single??🤔
Everybody assumes your heterosexual by default. I want people to know so girls don’t hit on me and guys will😁
@@themechanictangerine4337 I dont declare my SO when making an app at the dentist. Its not relevant to the task, and the other person may not want to know. So im not deciding for them. Im more a secretsexuotive if where making up words.
Check out joeys comment abover. "hit on me" Thats a lawsuit in the making...
Maybe i should declare it to my dentist, at the end all i wanna do is leave then shes in my way blab blab, might drop a "wanna see it" Thats how gentleman do it.
Offensive.
