- Henry Akins began training in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu in 1995 at the Rickson Gracie Acadamy on Pico blvd in West LA. Shortly after he started he became the secretary at the acadamy and was spending 70 hours a week there watching and participating in all of the classes. In 1997 the school moved to the Pacific Palisades where Henry trained and assisted main Instructor Luis Heredia and also participated and trained in all of the classes taught by Rickson. During these years Henry had the opportunity to train with Rickson and help him prepare for his fights in Japan. In 2000 the acadamy moved again to Wilshire blvd in West LA. By this time Henry had begun teaching many of the classes at the school.
In Feb of 2004, because of his persistence and dedication to the fundamentals and philosophies of Jiu-Jitsu, Rickson Gracie presented Henry with a blackbelt, being only the third American at the time to receive that honor. Henry then took over the school and became the main instructor there until 2008 when he was forced to stop due to a back injury. Now Henry is the head Jiu-Jitsu instructor at Dynamix Martial Arts and although Henry is no longer affiliated with Rickson Gracie or his association, he feels blessed to be able to share this art with others and to pass on the knowledge that was taught to him by the greatest Jiu-Jitsu practitioner ever. - Развлечения
Cleared Hot is so underrated. I have listened to JRE and only that for years and now I am addicted to Stumpfs podcast. It doesn't get the attention it deserves
Former buds instructor Patstone please

Been looking forward to a Henry Akins interview. Finally!
Personal Opinion here..... If you're the average person training BJJ for practicality purposes/self defense. You should absolutely incorporate some form of striking in your training repertoire as well.
Thanks guys for the great podcast filled with a lot of very interesting and fun stories.. Plus as always a lot of good life lessons to be learned from this one as well...:) Keep up the great shows Andy.....
Andy I love your podcast. This is the best one yet! Thank you. Oss.

Love it!!! Awesome!! Thank you Andy!!
Henry is an awesome dude, great podcast as always
Get Steven Seagal so we can debunk Jiu-Jitsu once and for all.
And talk about that deadly stuff that sensei Seagal does.
please tell me you are being sarcastic ...
@@DawnKratzer The deadliest guy on earth? Never.
Haha . Sure ok
Casey Ryback ftw
completely on board with that!
seagal is probably like 829-0 is hidden tournaments..? the deadliest wrist catch & throw wrestler on earth, bring him in..
These dives down the BJJ rabbit hole has inspired me to start.
Enjoy the journey!

Awesome podcast.
Thank you for another Monday morning post!
Henry, do a podcast episode with Rickson
fucking love these jiu jitsu round tables
Discovered Henry when I was a white belt training in Kentucky. He was so kind and his jiu jitsu is still relevant in my game today. PS He is the only man to tap me to pressure! Great to see you connecting with him. Let's get a roll in soon.
Andy "15 years is a decade and a half" Stumpf.
Love the podcast Andy, Cheers
How about getting Pat McNamara on the podcast? Would love to hear you two shoot the shit and tell old war stories
how many times is this host going to interrupt Professor Akins!!??? jeeshhhh
Podcast starts at 6:13
So, the combined experience of 50ish years would be similar to having a descendent of Steven Seagal on the show?
jeff roberts Senpai Seagal virtually kicked me in my nuts for the disrespect. I sincerely apologize to the king of the dojo.
I've been taking judo for a little while, on and off, approx. 3 years cumulatively and the "nasty" truth is that takedowns are what weeds out the class by a half after the first week of a semester, especially the new ppl that never experienced a good slam on a mat after a basic leg rip or uchi mata with a high leg sweep. You get a hard impact on a "soft mat", "seeing stars, i.e. light concussion", and bruises, sometimes light dislocation of hip joints, shoulders and whatever else you failed to tuck in during the fall. It also depends on how mindful and experienced your partners is not to hurt you intentionally or unintentionally. I would imagine it would also hurt the dojo business. People get knocked out for weeks, sometimes forever - if you are a noob, it's a serious discouragement. I suspect that's why they are so light on takedowns.
That's true. When I was a kid I did Judo for three years on the old hard mats back in the early eighties. The falls were hard and you had to have your break falls perfect.
Now I'm an old man and the mats are soft but you can still get injured if you get slammed badly.
Matt Thornton next!
I'm curious to what they are drinking
Did you finally iron those drapes? Lol
4:24 WEST COAST TIME....LETS ROLL!
Chris d’Eleted can roll with all those guys at once, I’m sure. Of course, they’re not his type, but still.
Only Master Callen can stand up to him.
Kirk Arvin T. True, but they have different styles. Callen uses smoke bombs while d’Eleted uses 🍬
How do you feel about Rob Oneil? Career and life after the teams.
In this flaming political dumpster fire, I'm so happy to have this podcast to escape to. Even when it turns political I can handle the even keeled approach. Please never stop.
Who the hell is Hickson Gracie.
some dude from brazil who can beat the shit out of steven seagal eyes closed and hands tied.
So you have went from hating everything about Jiu-jitsu not shutting up about it
bocheca literally means cheek.
The whole "no stand-up" thing is why I never like Brazilian strain and I stuck with Japanese. In my opinion, jujitsu is just a part of an overall system.
Oh boy. More man wrestling
Get off one hop on another
