I lost 22 kg of body fat in 8 months on a strict keto < 20g of net carbs a day. No sugar, no refined carbs up front but also no hidden carbs like beer, wine to a certain extent and no fruit juice. I had absolutely no problem sustaining the diet and even now 4 years later I can adapt my weight down or up at will. I'm perfectly fat adapted which also includes my own body fat which plays a predominant role in insulin resistance. The trick in losing body fat is to keep the insulin level as low as possible since in the presence of too much insulin no body fat will be metabolised. Apart from transporting energy into cells insulin is also responsible for storing energy in the form of fat. Scientifically speaking it makes perfect sense. Avoid insulin-spiking foods and your metabolism will switch to burning fats including your own body fat. There's nothing unnatural about it since there's no such thing as essential carbohydrates, only essential amino and fatty acids apart from the essential micronutrients. I kept my ideal weight for over 4 years now. I still avoid sugars and refined carbs, junk food etc which nobody needs to ingest anyway. It's more of an addiction than nutrition. I only eat whole foods which humans are evolutionarily programmed for. I also avoid PUFA which is highly suspected to be inflammatory when heated. In terms of side effects, my "keto flu" lasted a mere 36 hours. It was definitely worth it and never a reason to give up. Btw my blood statistics improved considerably, i.e. lower triglycerides, higher HDL, much better inflammatory markers etc.

I have done Keto with Intermittent fasting for 4.5 months since hearing about a couple of fellow diabetic friends experiencing awful health issues this year. I have lost 5.5 stone or 34kgs in that time and it has been surprisingly easy and, unlike previous diets that I have tried, has needed very little will power as I dont get hungry provided that I keep hydrated. During the past month I have taken things further by adding one prolonged fast each week - either 2 or three days to the one or two 24 hour fasts I do each week. On days when I eat twice, I am fasting for 16-18 hours but just dont get hungry. As a result, my A1c blood sugars have reduced from 63 to 43 so I am technically below the diabetes threshold. Some diabetes symptoms that I didnt even know were related to diabetes went within a couple of weeks of starting (e.g. not sleeping through the night, pins and needles in my thumb); others like swollen feet took maybe a couple of months. I still need to lose about another 5.5 to 6 stone so will be staying with my keto plan to see this through before then switching from a no-carb diet to a low-carb diet once I hit my target weight
@@ashwiniyer7814 Hi Ash thanks for asking. Now 8 months into my ketoIF journey and have continue to lose weight at a similar rate so now a total of 8 stone 5lbs (53kg/117 lbs) down in that time. I added weekly prolonged fasting to keep things at that rate since late November. So I have a roast dinner Sunday lunchtime (NO potatoes, stuffing, yorkshire pudding - typical English ingredient of baked batter - or thick gravy - so only carbs from green vegetables), full cheeseboard Sunday evening and then NO FOOD until Tuesday evening. Once a month I extend that fast to 3 days, so no food until Wednesday evening. Typically 1 or 2 meals Wednesday and Thursday but just 1 on Friday and Saturday. I take a daily multi vitamin pill, Omega 3 capsule and 200mg of CoQ10 (as on mild dose of statin which I am about to give up). On fasting days I consume a half teaspoon of sea salt plus a magnesium pill. Will soon get another HbA1C and lipid test but I can see from my KetoMojo monitor that my glucose continues to creep down with Ketones averaging 1.0 but occassionally 2.5+ with 6.1 recorded at the end of my 4 day fast. The journey is almost a mini miracle like I have discovered a wonderdrug for weight loss and diabetes reversal, except that drug is fat adaptation through KetoIF. My target for being slim is a further loss of 39lbs/17.7kg but (with my clothes on🙂) I’m already looking good and no one would now describe me as a fat guy.

The keto diet is amazing, I started it again as I did before. My first round of keto in 2021 I lost 40+ lbs 311-265....And now this year I started at 291 and now down to 262lbs. Also, this year, I am now doing fast-paced, walking/jogging. The first week of starting keto again was a little difficult, but as expected. Very awesome diet 👏
I first tried keto out of curiosity, not to lose weight or fix diabetes. I didn't have any 'keto flu' symptoms. I felt great. The hardest part was cravings for bread and pasta. After being on and off keto for 2 years I understood that I felt my best without carbs. The best benefit (and unexpected one) is that on keto my MPS symptoms gone completely and menstrual cramps have became so mild so I don't take any painkillers anymore. So now keto is not a short term diet but my way of eating. I don't crave bread or other high carb foods anymore.
Years ago I tried the Atkins Diet. It only lasted a bit more than a month. I really didn't know what I was doing. I didn't increase my fats, I just cut out everything I thought was a carb. I was almost insane I was so desperate for carbs. I would have these elaborate wild dreams about cookies. In my favorite, I invented a human powered flying machine. I flew around the neighborhood, I was getting a patent....It was vivid and amazing! Then I thought, "I'll fly up to the mountains, but I'll stay close to the slope so if I have a problem I'll be close to the ground. So off towards the mountains I flew, but then I stopped off at a 7 Eleven to get some powerbars... I woke up laughing. It wasn't about flying, it was about cookies! One thing I tricked myself into doing. Someone offers me some junk, Doritos for instance. Immediately I say, "I don't eat that," and brain starts shouting, "Why did I say that??? I love Doritos. Too late.

I'm actually losing to much to quick cause I am very stricken, so I'm toning it down a little. I just hit 10kg today after 2 months,,40kg more to go...
I stuck with Keto for a year, lost 3.5 stone, cut my blood sugar in half, came of meds and felt great. I learned how to cook differently and bake my own keto cakes and bread. I had a great online support network. The down side, after 6 months i lost nothing, my hair and nails were brittle, had brain fog and had terrible carb cravings. I had to take zinc and magnesium suppliments. My GP and diabetic nurse were against it and told me to come off it. I did, got my social life back and put on all the weight. To conclude:- It works, but its hard to sustain.

It's odd that you got those symptoms. You're highly encouraged to eat cruciferous veg, nuts, eggs, seafood and many other low carb high mineral foods on keto. Also the fact you got carb cravings months later indicates that you never got over the addiction. Your case sounds more like a psychological one than a physiological one.

Muscle relaxers gave immediate relief. In the end, was Keto worth it for the month I tried it, yes? I drank 0.5-1 gallons of water a day with electrolytes & lemon juice to stay nutrient full but it appears that may not have prevented my symptom. I am 27yo do a lot of weightlifting and a very cognitive demanding job. I adopted a diet which I dont eat carbs directly so the total gr per day are low enough to be in ketosis for most of the day. I also do 16h fast in the morning. I have never felt better. I feel like the do not eat protein part of the keto diet is bullshit. (Just fast instead.) My lifts are going up, my focus is next level (due to the low glucose levels in my body). I feel energised all the time. My recommendation (something that the Doc didnt say). Whatever diet you try. The most important aspect is to count your calories and your macros and BE CONSISTENT!
I've been doing keto for about 6 years. 20 years ago I was doing a form of ketosis and fasting after intense aerobic exercise without having any idea what the mechanisms was. I just noticed I felt great, lost 45 lbs of excess fat in a few months, built muscle and felt in control of my eating. One key benefit of a keto diet and then any level of lower carbs, maybe intermittent fasting, is you'll realize you aren't an undisciplined couch slug who can't control your eating -- it's just your carb addicted gut controlling your mind. So I don't think you 'feel fuller' on a keto diet at all. In my experience (logged, analyzed) if you are doing enough keto, and eating low levels of carbs, then your gut neurons will stop constantly crying out for carbs. I know what it's like to be a desperate snacker (I've just been through another period of this) and I know what it's like to feel hunger and think, oh yeah, okay, I can wait to eat or skip it. I am in control. Another sign of being 'fat adapted,' is when you exercise aerobically for a period of time, for me this was about 90 minutes, you won't 'hit the wall,' or 'bonked.' We've all been there, you're on a long hike, a long day of travel, and you reach a point where you feel wrecked, like you can't take many more steps before you collapse. You're desperate to eat something.... I don't care how skinny you are, you don't need to eat at this point. It's just your carb addicted gut and non fat adapted body not wanting to shift to burning body fat. I used to paddle hard for 3 hours. At 90 minutes I'd hit the wall, then paddle back to the beach wondering if I was going to make it, then I'd stagger up the beach with my kayak and barely get it back on my car rack. On the drive home I would 'recover.' When I got home I wasn't actually hungry. Now if I go out for a three or four hour paddle, I will stop eating at about 4pm the day before, get up, drink coffee, drive to the ocean (45 minutes) paddle for 3 - 4 hours, drinking more black coffee and water and never hit the wall. This is fat adapted. My body will continue to burn fat until I eat anything with carbs. One doctor when I said I was doing keto and mentioned some of my benefits didn't even look up from his computer. He just said, "Yeah, but how well is your brain working?" Our brains can do 75% of their function on ketones and the liver can make any needed carbs from protein. (I eat about 80 to 110 grams of protein a day.) Give me any cognitive test. I'll crush it. Don't forget the Inuit in the arctic ate almost zero carbs for a couple thousand years. Weighing myself and writing it down every morning for years shows that water is the main day to day change, a fuller intestinal tract is the second short term factor. So consistency, same time everyday, factor out what you're wearing. (This can vary a lot more than water or poop) and see what the over all long term trend is. And learning about keto can help across your diet. Processed foods sneak in sugars every possible way they can. If you eat whole foods, do most of you own cooking, minimize snacks, don't drink alcohol, you're health is going to get better even if you don't lose weight. Be careful with your doctor and nutritionist. They might not understand keto. I was just around a really good strength trainer who repeatedly said, you lose muscle on keto and intermittently fasting. You can almost tell when they received their training. Get your fiber, I eat cabbage, green onions, whole and steel cut oatmeal. These may not be keto, but they are so low in calories you can eat a lot of them and still be keto.
Thanks for this. Luckily I don't experience any of the symptoms listed on keto. As I trained as a Nurse I rarely go to the GP. Only if it is essential. People do this differently too I find and as someone who is 'intuitive' It helps. I have also done Keto before with great success.... 4 stone lost over 2-3 years
Yes just take out the 400 calls from what you consume. That way you can skip it. I do suggest some sort of activity for mental acuity not to lose weight but just keeping in great mind frame.
Other issues caused by chemicals in foods containing chemicals put in food supply and water and are simply having a allergic reaction to the food they eat causing inflammation in the body.
I have a question, as I am just dumbfounded about this. About 4 years ago, I went on the keto diet and lost 45 pounds in about 4 months. It was great! I no longer had high blood sugar, high blood pressure, and pain from inflammation. I got off all meds and was feeling great. Well, over the last few years, I have not been eating low carb, and a lot of the weight has crept back. I started keto again in January of this year, and 3 months later, I have only lost 5 pounds!! I have been eating the same low carb foods, and in the same amounts as last time. I did not cheat one time!! What the heck is going on?? Has this happened to anyone else?? It's like keto no longer works for me! I hope someone can help me, as it has gotten depressing. Thank you.
At the end of the day weight loss comes down to calories in-calories out. Maybe you are eating the same foods, but in different quantities; or, your activity level is lower; or, your base metabolism has slowed. You can adjust activity level or quantities until it works for you.
Ketosis truly truly shaved the weight off for me The first few weeks it’s true you feel moody and tired as your body craves glucose.. it does go away tho so keep going
Curiously I only had weight cycling problems with low fat diets never with keto. And having 60 grams of carbohydrates from vegetables gives you enough fiber to avoid constipation at least for me. In summary I felt great with keto and my cholesterol and triglycerides count are very good.
What is it that pple are missing??? Doughnuts or broccoli. As far as I know NO ONE runs home after an exhausting day of work to eat a large plate of asparagus! Lolo!
Healthy fat ..I never ate so healthy before the keto..drink salt water with potassium and solves all he's negative topics.. I eat nothing but fiber on keto ..not constructive at all .. avocado..bacon eggs..nuts and veggies!! Th evil powers don't want you to know the truth about fasting and ketosis
I had couple of episodes 4 to 5 months ago where I fainted and had convulsions. I suffer from high blood preassure but I had never been diagnosed with anything that could cause convulsions. It was really scary and after a month of multiple exams the only minor issue was tolerance being generated to insulin. They have not ruled out this issue as the source of my convulsions but i did cut out sugar completley and nearly all carbohydrates. Changed oils and butters for avocado oil and cut out most of the saturated fats from my diet. I was unaware i was on a semi keto diet, but i have now lost 30kg or just over 60lb in just 3 months. The only thing j do differently is i do try to consume more fiber in my diet. I have not had any more convulsions since then and i feel sharper and overall better. My body doesnt hurt when i need walk or go up stairs, things are getting easier overall.

We've all been there, you're on a long hike, a long day of travel, and you reach a point where you feel wrecked, like you can't take many more steps before you collapse.
4 stone lost over 2-3 years
Can i still lose weight if i start keto diet, but not exercise? I know everyone is different.... generally speaking.
Yes just take out the 400 calls from what you consume. That way you can skip it. I do suggest some sort of activity for mental acuity not to lose weight but just keeping in great mind frame.
If you do this you'll lose muscle mass. You should work out.
Absolutely!
Great to see some actual scientific info about this diet (and its huge pitfalls!) from a doctor rather than a ‘keto bro’
Thank you so much for acknowledging this
Keto allows loads and loads of fibres!! Eat as much low carb vegetables!! No agreed with everything you are saying!! All healthy fats allows!!
Other issues caused by chemicals in foods containing chemicals put in food supply and water and are simply having a allergic reaction to the food they eat causing inflammation in the body.
What about Virta Health and the claims of reversing T2D using a nutritional ketogenic approach?
Im with Virta right now. Just a week in. It’s free with my job
Ketosis truly truly shaved the weight off for me
The first few weeks it’s true you feel moody and tired as your body craves glucose.. it does go away tho so keep going
Lolo!
Since I started this keto my stomach hurts I can't sleep and feel sick and tired all the time
I’ve had friends rave about the Keto diet but I feel like it deprives your body of key nutrients.
Yes that’s one of the drawbacks I discuss
@@DrODonovan what nutrients can you miss from greins and processed foods? 🤦♀️
No it doesn’t that’s only if you are doing dirty keto
Vs American diet? Nothing but garbage!!! And still not getting nutrients
*HyperKeto: hold my steak*
With a steakholder 😂
Insomnia and carb craves
any hopes 2 service when

Keto for 3-6 weeks will allow beta cells to regenerate. Or so I read. Who the hell knows….
PD: my blood preassure is now more stable than ever and my doctor has been surprised with the results.
Once you loose FAT , fk Keto , intermidiate fasting and all that.Unfortunally in the Ages of the Ages to stay lean and with energy you need to eat 5 times small meals ( BIRD FOOD MEALS) for sports and bodybuilding AKA Taperwear .... and not to be DUM AS FK withouth carbs. Like I am now to loose 10 kg pure Fat due to a 1 year car accident. I cant Drag my feet in the Gym with this Keto/Fasting no carb bullshit.
I personally prefer eating healthy foods and Intermitting Fasting
Thanks for sharing
Can I reach ketosis on a carnivore diet?
Absolutely. Just avoid net carbs, pasta, bread, rice, sugar etc.
Dietitians are so freaking expensive, might as well purchase a gym membership instead.
