    There are a few reasons why its not working. 1. its harder to peel eggs that arent freshly cooked. The longer they sit, the harder they are to peel. I would try eggs that have just finished cooking and are still slightly warm. Reason 2. You are ONLY supposed to crack the top and bottom and you are cracking the top, bottom, and sides of the bottom. It cant peel that way. the pressure needs to go through the top hole and push through to the bottom, when you crack the sides, it looses the pressure it needs to come out.

    When you hold a seashell to your ear, the noise you hear is actually the resonance of the blood flowing and muscles contracting sounds as well as the amplification of the ambient noises. The result is a calm and soothing sound that kinda sounds like waves on the sand !

    Bunny, it would work best immediately after boiling. Freshly boiled eggs still have moisture under their shell, which would allow the egg flesh to slide out effortlessly.

    The color on the eggs may have adhered the shell more than it normally would be. Also they may have been slightly over cooked as the yolk looked a touch green. Try adding some baking soda to your water when boiling eggs. Also look up the Martha Stewart way of boiling eggs it turns out perfect every time with out fail and super easy. :)

    Honestly even though some of them can be a pain I'd rather just peel them by hand. Running hot water(not hot enough to burn you of course)over the stubborn ones helps to loosen the shell.
    Also I feel like the sooner after you boil them the better for shell removal. I also don't like the yolk, I like the white part with salt and pepper.

    Could it be that the egg was not warm. It would make sense that the egg would be somewhat warm making the shell softer since the heat is expanding the shell? Another possibility could be that you cracked the top and the bottom making the pressure less effective..

      Stephanie Moats No, she's right. We learned about way back in 7th grade science. You make two small hole on either side of the egg. Bloe through one and it comes out the other. It's a bit of hard work but is helpful if you need just the eggshell for something. We had a project that required an intact egg shell without the actual egg inside of it.

  • @SquirrelRun

    OK Bunny, I'm a pretty good cook (went to culinary arts school and was told they couldn't teach me anything because I already knew it!) so, here's how you make the "perfect boiled egg". 1) use older eggs, not expired but not super FRESH. 2) In a pot of COLD WATER, place your eggs with a teaspoon of vinegar. 3) Bring your eggs to a boil, cover and remove from heat for 20 minutes. 4) After 2o minutes immediately run under cold water until cool enough to touch. 5) Crack your eggs on the counter and begin peeling from where the "air" in the egg was, and running under cold water begin peeling. Your eggshell should come off as you peel and allow water to enter into the membrane separating the egg from the shell. It's not 100% fool proof but it's the best I've found over 29 years of marriage! Good luck! (Especially since Deviled Eggs are a staple at Thanksgiving, aren't they?????)

    • @SedTheMage
      @SedTheMage 8 лет назад +11

      Also a chef, also culinary school, and being told "you can't be taught anything because you already know it all" is actually an insult saying that you're close minded and not open to be taught. Sounds like your chefs were trying to teach you something and you would just argue and be stubborn.
      I used to use your method, found on seriouseats.com, but found that de-shelling was difficult. then he amended his method to the critiques that follow:
      1)old eggs, yes.
      2)cold water start, no. dropping cold eggs in hot water is better cause the initial shock creates an air pocket around the shell, making them easier to peel.
      3) 20 minutes with this method is way too long. Bring to boil and then simmer for 11 or 12 minutes. 20 minutes would create a green coating around the yolk which proves it to be SUPER overcooked.
      4) then immediately shock them in ice water. and let chill for 5 minutes.

      Actually chef, my teacher and I were friends and it was the second day I was there. I knew how to sharpen my knives and hold them correctly and I simply wasn't as green as the rest of the class, who were all quite younger than me. He had be an instructional aid when our secondary Chef was dealing with family issues. He was being quite honest when he told me that, because I aced all the tests and I tried to learn new things, that's why I was there. But thank you for you input. As for the egg recipe, I'll try your recipe and thank you for sharing!

      Caroline E I believe if I'm remembering the story correctly the guy drank a gallon or MORE of tea EVERY single day for his entire life and it was a particular kind of tea (black tea or something) and anything in too large of quantities even something that's normally GOOD for you can many times be fatal. I can't remember what the toxin was but it was "essentially" poisoning. But not intentional.

    Check the instructions on how they tell you to boil the eggs. I actually have seen people crack the top and bottom of an egg and just blow the egg out themselves... but I think that was because they used baking soda when they boiled them and put them in ice water afterwords, which helps the eggs peel easier. That could be the trick to making this thing work.

    • @teddydavis5383
      @teddydavis5383 9 лет назад +3

      No, you just straight up boil the egg, and you make the holes at the top and bottom (the bottom being bigger than the top) and blow. It works, I've tried it myself. You can find a video on it if you looked.

    Bunny, My two cents to add to the pile...
    Since they were already cooked and colored, we know they are dry. That might be the biggest factor in why they refused to peel. When I peel them (using my paws, since I don't have the fancy gadgets like you do!) I put them in a big bowl about half full of water. Just cold tap, nothing fancy. I crack the shells on the counter or edge of the sink, kind of breaking the shells all over , then drop back in the water and go to the next. When I'm done with them all, I start peeling. The water lubricates between the shell, membrane and egg white, making it easier to peel off, even when I forget to add the vinegar or baking soda to the boiling water, which I'm very prone to doing. Makes it much easier to remove not only the shell but the dried membrane so the eggs are good, tasty and tender. If you're making a batch of deviled eggs, this is a great way to do it. If you want to try the eggstractor again, maybe trying running the cracked eggs under a tap after you crack them, or doing the crack/water bowl method would make it actually work better. Otherwise, at least we still have our phalanges, right?

    Bought one today for $3.99 at a thrift store because it was clean and looked unused in original box. Was skeptical after watching this video. Mine worked fine even with jumbo sized eggs, but they were fresh from the store and boiled 8 mins with a little salt in the water. I think the key is to carefully pierce the small end using the spike and then rotate it on the spike to make a clean single hole (not fractured). Then just lightly tap the other larger end on the counter several times while pivoting it around so most of the bottom is fairly well fractured to allow an easier exit. All six of my eggs worked on the first try. The seventh egg was a really huge (twin) egg with two yolks inside which did not work perfectly and split into two halves. It takes a bit of strength to do it right so don't be timid if you expect to shell them on the first try. Seems to be a good product if you use it right with fresh eggs and salt the water.

    If you put your ear to a seashell you'll hear noise that sounds like the ocean. It's just the background noise in the room around you resonating within the shell. Fun trick though! 🌊 🐚 👂🏻 🌊

      No it’s just the blood rushing through your ears wether it’s your hand, a shell or any other cup-shaped object you hold to your ear.

    The easier way to peel eggs is adding salt in the water . The eggshells don't stick to the eggs, which wouldn't be destorying it's shape. Just crack them upside down and it's easier.

      @ChillTheChilli 9 лет назад +1

      Kenny ★ Or make a tiny hole on the top, a big hole on the bottom and blow hard through the top hole until the egg comes out whole through the bottom hole :)

      Kenny ★ I heard that you can boil them with baking soda in the water and they will peel easier.

  • @itsgillicorn1891
    @itsgillicorn1891 9 лет назад +7

    I think you need to only crack the large end once with much force because3 that is the side with the air. Mabey the shaving cream did somthing too. Nice work being determind.

  • @Ginjaninjalextasy
    @Ginjaninjalextasy 9 лет назад +6

    i basically do this process by hand easily. you make a small hole that you can cover with your mouth on the small end. then, you make a big hole on the big side of the egg, so that it's largest part is able to go through. then you put the small hole to your mouth and blow, and the egg shoots out and you catch it with your other hand. easy-peasy

    swamp brothers and sisters... I have a question, in the US you paint and hide real eggs or also chocolate eggs? I'm asking because in my country we hide chocolate eggs covered in colorful papers, and eating real eggs doesn't sound so fun

    • @meganclarke6123
      @meganclarke6123 9 лет назад +6

      Hi Sophia! Most of the time the eggs we hide to find in an egg hunt are plastic eggs (the kind that split in half) which may or may not have candy or other surprises inside. The real eggs that we color are just done for fun as a cool activity and something pretty to look at. Some people eat them (some people don't), but they aren't used for hiding. :)

      In my house hold we boil eggs and dye them then we leave them out for the "Easter bunny" to hide and when we wake up they are hidden in our house and we find them. Also the Easter bunny fills our baskets with gifts and candies. We leave them out the day before Easter btw.

    tip for peeling eggs. tiny glass jar with a lid (or use your hands) take a bit of water and shake it with your egg inside. easy peasy. i know that is not what the video is about but i figured to share my knowledge!!!
