  • BallasticNG is the best of what made games like Wipeout and Fzero so great in the first place.

    Clarification: There are a few things I looked over while making this review. I thought i experienced everything in the game but apparently i thought wrong.
    But i also do enjoy playing this game, i want to emphasize that. Im not a hater of this game.

    2:03 correction... the game has a total of ~80 official maps (including dlc and reverse variants), with community made maps reaching ~600 (i have nearly all of them installed)

    5:23 you can pitch up and down, which makes the landings much smoother and you don't loose much speed

      I realized this afterwards but thanks for the reassurance.

    One thing about this game's tracks and your apparent trouble with them... I'm afraid it might be your inexperience, which obviously isn't a problem if you are willing to improve!
    Here's the deal: The controls are pretty complex, cause of it being an AG racer. Be sure to use the 'airbrake' controls. Imagine it like an instant drift button, where you can fling around your vehicle and take those tight corners. It's kinda tricky to get it just right, but when that first 'perfect lap' notice pops up, you know you want to hear it again. And again.
    Also, the bumping isn't game physics either - you can pitch your nose up and down, and if you don't do that correctly, you WILL slam into a track or lose 'grip' by flying up, and come back down.
    So yeah, don't worry, it's a complex but rewarding game to master. I'm also not trying to 'backseat' you, but help you enjoy the game to its fullest.

      Yeah I acknowledge allot of my complaints are just me problems. I realized about the pitching mechanic after the review without even realizing that it was a thing. I really do enjoy the game it's just that it's a game that I love that I suck at. My whole goal as a reviewer is to cover the underrated instead of covering things that people have already heard about. So I thought this game fell in line with what I do.
      Btw you are completely fine, pointing out things I've misinterpreted is what I need to make my reviews better in the future. :)

    Not once I see you use the shoulder buttons like L1 and R1 to use the airbreakes for tighter turns

      For me personally it just felt wrong. It feels too jarring for me personally but I get why it's there. I just don't use it.

      @@friendlycanadianYTIt's something that is really necessary to learn to use if you want to do decent on the higher speed classes. You won't get far without getting a handle on it.

      @HappyMan0203 I don't really play competitively I just play casually. Also I would rather play a game comfortably instead of doing something that feels weird to do. But the option is there for people who know how to use it but obviously I just don't know how to use it comfortably even if I tried.

      @@friendlycanadianYT I'm not talking about competitively or multiplayer, I mean even in the campaign. Try playing on some of the higher speed classes without making effective use of airbrakes, it's near impossible, especially when it comes to the lower handling ships. I play casually as well, but it's still important.
      And it's not something just that BNG does, the original Wipeout games were the same. Good control of airbrakes was essential for winning races again the AI, especially on more technical tracks and on faster speed classes.
      Learning to use them also helps to alleviate the issue you had of the tracks being "too twisty", since you would manage the turns much tighter.

      @@friendlycanadianYT weird to do? That's just 2 more buttons and conveniently you don't have to press the opposite direction to pull it off. Left for left turns and right for right turns. The duration of the hold determines how strong you breake your speed and turn your car. In those high speeds it's essential. It's like you telling me you don't use the slide in F-Zero which is the shoulder buttons too... Letting go of the thrust can help you as well. This has nothing to do with casual vs competative. Nonetheless it was a nice video

    Where do you get the community maps/levels? Are they free or paid?

      I believe it's either mod.io or the steam workshop. I think they are free but I never tried any of them.

    You probably keep hitting walls because youre supposed to use the Airbrakes (RT & LT)
    They can help for tight turns and if you make a mistake.

      @@friendlycanadianYT just as a warning to be safe, the 2nd game is much harder, mechanically. Also, they're both harder Anti Grav racing games, compared to BallisticNG at least (imo).

    • @davidzadro2939
      @davidzadro2939 Месяц назад +1

      @@That_One_Annoying_Splinter I wouldn't say it's harder, the AI is much faster yes, and the tracks are tighter and more technical. But the ships are also far more responsive and grippy than in redout 1, where wallbouncing is a viable part of your kit. It's a different kind of difficulty. I also wouldn't say it's harder than BallisticNG, just a bit more focused on sheer speed and forgoing any and all combat

    • @DARamosYT
      @DARamosYT Месяц назад

      @@davidzadro2939 Agreed. They're both challenging games, but I find Redout is specifically designed for the speed over BallisticNG.
      Both games require precision. BallsiticNG demands precise steering. Whereas Redout offers extra engagement of control with the right stick strafe. I find the strafe to be more comfortable, almost cheating by freely adjusting your racing line; whereas in Ballistic, you can't afford to fall off that line at any point, or you hit a wall.

    BallisticNG, when i first played it, was one of my favourite racing games ever, the sense of speed and the control on offer i felt was was unmatched by anything else i could find on steam, its such a shame i cant reccomend it anymore due to the toxic and bigoted community that has formed, with the devs seemingly encoraging it...
    It couldve been so much more...
