It’s not that they think short isn’t beautiful. It’s more like they don’t like their kinky texture . I believe this because when they wear a short wig it’s usually a type 3C curly wig, wavy or straight hair wig with a silky texture. Never a kinky straight or an kinky textured short wig.
@@Orlanzepol123 yes exactly!!! It took me some time to accept, but eventually, I embraced my shrinkage and found ways to combat single strand knots. I absolutely love my shrinkage and It makes my hair what it is❤️
No they don't like short hair. It shows every angle of your face. If my hair was a twa I would wear a wig. I don't look good with short hair other women look great but I really look boyish. Everyone doesn't have the same face or head shape.
Many women wear textured wigs.
I agree it’s stange how bw run to get European/Asian hair wigs. But over the years I’ve realized that bw will never be able to have an honest conversation about the wigs… i just feel bad for the young black girls who have to constantly see the women in their family and their favorite black women celebrities constantly wear Asian hair wigs
I never seen a pack of hair say European. I have seen Malaysian, Indian, Brazilian. Pretty much everything but European.

I strongly agree with a lot of your opinions here especially black people (more so women) not loving their hair. I, myself, am a natural. I've been natural since 2013 or 2014 and during those days my hair was an absolute mess, damaged from constant flat ironing. I always wear my natural hair outside and for nearly all occasions. However, what I find funny is most of the compliments I get about my hair come from non-black folks. It really seems to be a lot of the black community itself not finding beauty and accepting of their hair type.

I have the same experience, i got most of my comments from white people. I remember in highschool one time a yt girl literally said to me “i love how you’re wearing your own hair instead of ours”. A 14 year old said that to me. That means THEY KNOW we are trying to look like them… how embarrassing

Fascinating. Maybe because I’ve resided in mostly black neighborhoods throughout the duration of my life, but I’ve gotten many complements on my type 4 natural hair whether it was long or short. I mean I’ve had some complements form non black people, but most of my complements came (and still come) from black people 🤷🏽♀️
I had a conversation about this. I agree I think as African Americans (or black women as a whole) we've been programmed to believe that to be feminine is to have long hair no matter what it looks like (perhaps besides free-form locs unfortunately) I went natural at 13 in 2008 as I was tired back then with relaxers as a child. I think I've been fortunate to have a mom who went natural then as well and have the second wave of natural hair movement to see on RUclips (not be subjected to "I can't 4c this BS and hair typing wars at the extreme it is now) I remember being hounded by a girl in high school for me to tell her how I got my afro for her to only relax it the next school year. I have never been attached to my hair and now I love wearing a fade 😊 Sorry, I wrote this on my phone really fast lol
I started my natural hair journal Oct of 2015. I watch tons of the same content creators you mentioned. I refused to get sucked into the creators who wore wigs a lot of the times as protection for their hair. Never once did I every added any type of hair to mine. I wore my own hair in low manipulation styles and retained my hair to waist length. I am currently doing it for the 2nd time. I cared for my daughter hair very much the same as I did mine and hers is now down to her hip. Let's love our hair and care for it, ladies.

Yess, I think about this a lot! I recently shaved my hair into a low taper cut and I wanna keep it short for a while, no wigs, just me!

Which means it applies to wearing human hair : those hairs were cut off from someone's head and would be holding trauma. So when you cut off your trauma, you apply someone else's trauma. Ironic. But there are synthetic wigs....and that's no way saying ppl cannot wear whatever they want.

Hair does not hold trauma stop spreading lies
as a young black woman who wears my hair natural most of the time, i have to disagree. i definitely think more black women should be loving and accepting of their natural hair but just because they prefer wigs or braids, doesn't automatically mean they don't like their natural hair. i love my curls but sometimes i want braids to not deal with it. personally i've never had a perm nor do i plan to ever get one, but i think women who revert back to perms shouldn't be demonized for using a perm. not everyone has the time or can afford to properly take care of their hair. black women should be able to do whatever they want they want with their hair without criticism.
I dont agree mostly bc we don't exist in a vacuum our beauty standard pre colonialism pre chattel slavery wasn't straight hair it was our own kinky curly coily hair alot of times styled in distinct artistic protective styles that indicated out ethnic group and class /social status . The idea that we just naturally gravitate to non textured weaves or protective styles 3x our natural hair length didn't just happen just because , the same way bw didn't start permin their hair just because they wanted to it's bc of the western European beauty standard we have been socialized to uphold forgetting this beauty standard was never ment to include us . Lastly perms are most definitely not easier than natural hair nor cheaper I use blk soap glycerin and oil /Shea butter all this under $20 it's not expensive I do my little sister's 4b/4b hair the only thing that takes the longest is detangling it and not necessarily bc it's a tighter curl pattern but bc it's thick , permed hair takes alot of time to maintain I would honestly say that same amount as natural hair so does installing a wig bc between having to apply the perm shampooing conditioning blowing out straighting or cornrowing your hair preping your skin applying lace glue letting the wig sit to melt styling the wig it self that's still as time consuming as washing your natural hair moisturizing it and stretching it both take almost an hour but what is seen as more worth your time bc if you dislike your hair spending an hour on it seems like a waster when you could spend an hour taking care of permed hair or installing a wig . I don't think bw should be shamed for wearing wigs or perm my own mother does both and has alopecia but I think we have to bffr I have never met a dark-skinned person who bleached bc they loved their dark skin the same way I haven't met a permed or "straight hair natural" who loved their hair .

I cut my hair off in a depressive episode and I couldn’t take care of the matts 😢 now I don’t have enough hair to do anything with and I’m throwing money away by trying to style my twa…..when I get paid I’m getting an Afro wig until it’s long enough to get a U part or V part wig until I grow it back to where it used to be. I don’t want to play around with my hair…. when I went natural the first time it was easy to take care of it but that’s because I didn’t care what other ppl thought of me or styles I got caught in tik tok and consumerism and it just makes me hate my hair now since it’s just short and inconvenient. (Fact is it’s not hard to take care of Afro hair is just everyone is trying to style their hair to death because they only like their Afro hair when it looks a certain kind of way) I am the same only because my hair texture is like 2a in the front 3a-b in the sides 4a everywhere else I can’t do anything with this until it’s at least 6 inches long since I have 0 plans to manipulate it to create a curl pattern that’s acceptable.😭🔫. When I went natural the first time I didn’t do a big chop I let the straightened hair fall out never really saw my hair grow out until now.. if I could go back in time I would 😭

Hi sis sorry to hear about the experience that caused you to big chop. I pray you continue to embrace your hair at all stages on this journey. I cut off my locs in January and they were waist length. going back to the big chop and starting over ( this is like my 3rd time total). I’m determined to wear my natural hair only. I’m use to the convenience and low maintenance of locs and I’m determined to do the same with my TWA. We don’t have to get sucked into feeling pretty or acceptable with a certain type of curl definition. Fine what works for you even if it’s not popular. Peace and blessings to you.
I'm growing my fade out since I did a big chop in 2015. I will not go back to the relaxer ever. My hair is at the in between stage and when work starts I'm not gonna have a whole lotta time to style my natural hair. So I guess trimming it into modern Afro is the answer. Problem is I get scissor and clipper happy....keeping it short is wonderful. Growing it back is the challenge..☺️

I couldn’t crazy glue anything to my skin, much less my head and cover it for weeks or months without having easy access to it to wash it & let it breathe. That’s crazy to me. How could you expect to have edges or healthy hair & scalp after that???🤷🏽♀️ It’s weird to me. I don’t understand their thought process at all.
I love my kinky coily crown, I would never big chop just for a look. Now i do love my sew ins just to give my hair a break. And honestly my hair grows the most when i leave her alone.
its really just style...and shouldn't matter....like everybody has choices and thats cool..and im natural and don't think on this low level....let people be free to have different style if they want!

I wear a wig and thats mainly becuase my texture of hair which is probably 4d or 5a does not do well at all with constant manipulation and styling. Tuis is why though i also love braids i avoid them becuase of thegtaje down process, same with twists which i love too.
I do enjoy wearing my hair out but its usually a choice between retention and looking great so i just find wigs are a great help.
Maybe my hair type just doesn't grow pas a certain point so I guess there is that too. 😮

I went natural about 10 years ago and I wear wigs for fun and while I haven’t shaved my head, I recently went back to cornrows for part of summer and wore wigs occasionally. I wore my cornrows out more often than wigs. I also usually do box braids or twists in the year. I like wigs because I’m not going to heat damage my hair or damage it by accidentally over dyeing it.
I feel like I keep seeing videos like this and it ends up being a double edged sword of educating folks on abolishing their internalized anti-blackness… and demonizing options for things that are just fun to some people
Pray this message finds you well. I don’t think it’s demonizing. Some people should be honest with themselves and check if they are triggered because a nerve is hit. It’s a honest conversation that gets to the root of why. Yes it may be simple as it’s fun and it’s different. But let’s be real for most black women the reason isn’t as surface level as that.

The point I made about what my big chop did for me, was that it helped me find confidence and beauty within myself outside of what society perpetuated onto me. Is it really an ‘awkward’ stage, or do you just not find yourself beautiful without long hair?

I don’t agree with WHY you’re talking about what you’re talking about BUT what you’re saying (most of it) isn’t wrong.
There’s something I always listen out for though when watching hair videos from ALL black women hair content creator- especially the ones that speak on why other black women “don’t like their hair” . They usually always mention how we’re all Eurocentric hypnotized and that is true- BUT THEN they’ll get to talking about split ends and big chops and even cuts and that’s when I know they themselves are still caught up because even THOSE THINGS are Eurocentric standards 🤦🏽♀️.
So what I’m saying is there is more self work for YOU to be doing before you make a statement video about how you feel about other black woman on their own hair path🤷🏽♀️ seriously and respectfully. Because what I got from this video spiritually, is that you in some way feel more elevated than other women you you’ve said so yourself in this video- struggle like you did and have. YET you feel one up enough to speak on them all while still having Eurocentric Blindspots yourself. 😕 which just isn’t cool.
How are hair cuts and split ends Eurocentric. That doesn’t make any sense to me. Hair care and styling is global. Wanting healthy hair is not Eurocentric. My mother studied anthropology and so have I. Maybe I’m wrong but I’ve never seen or heard proof of what you’re trying to claim. And there’s also nothing wrong is analyzing human behavior, in fact it’s a social science.

As for me feeling ‘elevated’, I’m not sure how you came to that conclusion, but perception is not a ‘one size fits all’. In my defense, I understand that everyone is in a different space when it comes to feeling comfortable in the skin that they’re in. This video was meant to be encouraging to those who only find beauty in long straight hair and those who have recently big chopped. I shared my experiences with my short hair to bring encouragement. I also admitted that when I was 15 and did my first big chop, that I also would’ve bought a wig if I could, but I couldn’t. I had no choice but to get comfortable with what I believed was the total opposite of beauty, I had to get comfortable with myself because I didn’t have any hair to hide under. I admit that I could’ve had more compassion in my tone at times in this video, but overall, I don’t see myself as ‘better’ because I’m not. I hope that this helped and I thank you for engaging with my content.
