I really like Good Kid, M.A.A.D City and To Pimp a Butterfly but this new album GNX is actually mid. People are only hyped about this because he built all those hype around him with winning the internet beef with drake.
Kendrick's voice is just not great as a MC. He's never really made West Coast sounding music until Not Like Us and the only reason that one stuck is because of who he was talking about. YG, Cube, Game, Snoop, Dre, Quik, Short, 40, Liks, Daz, Kurupt, Pac, Eazy, Ren, Xzibit, Pharcyde, Souls of Mischief, Mac Mall, Mac Dre, Warren G, Nate, etc all made that West Coast music with that umph. I really like Mustard but Kendrick can't bring the best out of his beats because he's just not that type of MC. He sounded like he got in the booth and said "I think this is what people in the club want to hear" instead of knowing what they want to hear from actually being around those environments.
