I love how you say, before you comment please remember these things may be useful to disabled people. As someone who is disabled since birth, I really appreciate that. Thank you.
Same here, as a person born with disability myself...as much as I enjoy Barry and his content - this adds another reason to enjoy his work, and shows such an awesome trait of him as a person
I am not a disabled person. But I know many disabled people and respect them all because they can all do anything they want, just sometimes with a bit of trouble. Don't look at disabilities as what you can't do, look at what you can do.
I know same and people with disabilities or learning difficulties can do everything anyone else can just in a bit more time and maybe with a bit more help
Man 1 gadget a week won't be nearly enough for my addiction to watching you test these, Barry. May I suggest doing an episode like you do now atleast once every other month? One gadget isn't nearly enough. Just my thoughts though, I will respect whatever you decide.
Almost all non-stick pans requires you to grease the pan, then wiping it with a tissue to leave just a tiny film of oil in it. You don't see them do it on TV.
I think what they did with the ketchup trick is they used a SUPER hot pan and specifically ketchup because of it's high water content (93-95%) and took advantage of the leidenfrost effect. It has nothing to do with non stick, it's just a convincing trick. I'll bet that they didn't have the ketchup in the pan for long.
It worked with the hotdog and salmon because they are oily. We fell for the same bs with flavor stone a light spray of cooking oil is required to make it non stick
Re-try the bean slicer with runner beans. It works really well. It tops and tails them and then de-strings them while it cuts them. The side blades remove the strings.
You could still do this for quick gadgets like the hot dog one but do gadget of the week for more in depth ones like the pan, love these videos and would hate to see them go
I know this is super late, but the pan (although, not sure what brand yours is, most 'as seen on TV' nonstick pans) is/are supposed to be seasoned like a cast iron skillet. You wash it, dry it, lightly rub enough vegetable or canola oil to just cover the nonstick surface, then either place on a burner for a couple minutes. Let it cool, then wipe out any excess oil with a paper towel. They don't often advertise it, but usually, it recommends it on the packaging.
As an Aussie, who spent 5 years working in kitchen retail selling kitchen gadgets to the general public...... these videos make me snort with laughter! You often convey they thoughts us selling them used to have..... 😂 Don't stop these videos Barry!! They are one of my favourites!
Those pans need a low to medium low heat only, hard to tell in the video but it sounded very high, I destroyed my first sapphire pan with too high heat :(
@@MrMega200 I completely agree and would love to own a cast iron pan but they're pretty expensive and currently not something I can afford. I inherited my kitchenware from my mum when she up graded. Sometimes we just have to live with what we can get 🤷♀️
I love these videos! Good morning, it’s super early here on the east coast of the US. These keep me from going to bed at a normal time Saturday nights.
My favorite part of these videos is the fact that they’re so rushed and throw together. It works well with your quirky personality! I wouldn’t care for a gadget of the week :( I think it would feel to much like an infomercial. Also, I’m drawing a blank, what are the pugs names? Boston and? 😂
And to be fair with the pan... you didn’t move the egg like everything else. If you leave anything sitting in a pan without moving it’ll probably burn and stick.
I don't know if this will help but I know with the copper pan, they say you should never put it on high heat, always low to medium because the heat is so intense. Best of luck! Stay awesome!
My granny has had that bean cutter for years!! Even when I was 8/9 (now I’m 21) preparing beans was so quick! Never had to sharpen it either :) and still use it!
I'd love to see Barry test out different cookware sets w/ detachable handles in the future, i.e.: - the Tefal Ingenio Daily Chef 22-piece pan set - the Tower 7 Piece cookware set - the Berlinger Haus 5Pc frying pan set with grill induction & detachable handle - the Carote nonstick cookware set with detachable handle, etc
I never comment but 1 gadget a week doesn't sound enjoying unfortunately. No hate but I like the fact that there are multiple gadgets in every video. It makes it feel like a great episode of gadget testing and is very satisfying! Please don't end that!
My mum use to make me bean with that bean cutter all the time when i was little. You cook them gently on the stove in a tin of tomato or pasata :) yum!
the copper is just marketing. it is the teflon that does the job. also putting butter will help. also a good cast iron pan is naturally non-stick. get one from the Lodge company they make good pans.
I got a square copper pan for Christmas and I love it. It's a different brand, so that may affect it, but I've rarely had anything stick to it, and even when I burned stuff to it washing it was super easy
While I don't have a copper pan, I was given a Stonedine pan. I add a little butter to it even though it's advertised as not needing any butter or oil. It helps a lot! My air fryer has a copper lined basket and it NEEDS a little oil spread over it otherwise things stick.
Aloha from hawaii love your kitchen gadget videos. But I like the low carb recipes you've done even better. That cauliflower toast was fun can't wait to try it my self.
With that copper pan, you're supposed to "season" it first. (Basically, you put a small amount of oil in the pan. Wipe it around with a paper towel, and then set it in a preheated oven for about 20mins.) The directions to do so are included with the pan........ -_-
Maybe not with that particular model (I forgot about the plastic handle), but you can do the same thing on the stove top. (Is the one with the plastic handle a knock-off brand?) At any rate, I tested the limits of my own copper pan. and it's permanently stained. I still use it because it conducts heat amazingly, but it's no longer as non-stick as it used to be.
When you used up what you can out of your nutella jar and all thats left is whats on the side, put milk in the jar, lid back on, give it a shake or two and you got a good chocolate nutella drink!! Very good
I own a copper pan, we had to heat it in the oven and let it cool over night and then apply a thin layer of oil the next day. after that i've not needed to oil it or butter it at all. i use it for pretty much anything i need the frying pan for and it works perfectly! i've had it for about five or six months
I have that pan also. Warning after 20 uses or so, mine started getting scratches. Also word of advice, it works a lot better when you have it on low heat and cook it a little longer. I've always had trouble with eggs though. For some reason it hates eggs and pancakes.
I have the Gotham steel pan like you have and I love it. I never use oil or butter in it. However you need to make sure it's set to medium low or the lower side. I find much higher then that it will start to stick.
How fantastic, I am from Australia and I totally remember the bean cutter from my childhood. We had one! I believe you do, do one bean at a time, the side blades cut off the stringy bit on the side of the bean while cutting it so you don't have that stuck in you teeth or making it chewy etc. 😀
I love your gadget videos. I wanted to thank you for.the one the showed the one touch battery operated can opener. Struggle with opening with turning the handle of a opener because of arthritis. And dont like the electric ones because of the sharp lid. I don't know if I got the same one since I am in the U.S. but i love it thanks
I have a version of the copper pan and it's one of my favorite pans. It's rather large so I can cook like 4 chicken breasts at once and since it's non-stick, it's really easy to clean.
As far as the ending pan goes- I have one somewhat similar and it lets say "heavily suggested" that you make sure you CURE the pan before the first use (and ideally once a year otherwise). That may be why the egg had such issues.
For my red copper pan, I just rubbed like a teaspoon of oil around in it the first time I used it, and as soon as I finish cooking in it, I take a wet paper towel around the inside while it's still hot to clean it. It keeps the pan seasoned and I've never had to worry about it. Cheesy scrambled eggs fall out of the pan like freaking magic.
You know what would be interesting, if you picked a random selection of gadgets and used them for whatever they are used for and then make a meal out of the things you made. So it's like you have to make a mystery recipe
I actually have a similar pan, and the trick to making it work is to unstick it while it's cooking. AKA, don't wait until it's done to slide it around. I have actually done that egg trick, though it has gotten some scratches... over time, that is.
are you sure you didn't have to temper the copper pan first? i remember buying one of those green pans and failing to read the instructions, where it said to temper it in the oven for a bit
When you said that the eggs in those frying pan advertisements slid around like they were plastic eggs, well they probably were. More often than not those ads use fake food to make their products look better. They probably started with a real egg and then did a subtle jump cut to them doing those fancy pan tricks using a rubber egg in a cold pan.

Ashley Sayers True. If he only did one a week it would take ages to get through. Not to mention more being sent in daily.

Almost all non-stick pans requires you to grease the pan, then wiping it with a tissue to leave just a tiny film of oil in it. You don't see them do it on TV.
Adrian Bigno i had to learn that the hard way 😒 "No oil needed!!!....except to make your non-stick pan non-stick."
This explains a lot of my cooking disasters. Thanks!
I find that when frying eggs in so-called non stick pans they always burn on the bottom and taste horrible unless you put a drop of oil in there.
Even in my non-stick pans, I use a bit of butter when frying eggs.
And a lot of non stick pans tell you not use them on high heat
I think what they did with the ketchup trick is they used a SUPER hot pan and specifically ketchup because of it's high water content (93-95%) and took advantage of the leidenfrost effect.
