Went to the one in LA, me and my girl waited in line for 2 hours and I can’t lie, it was great for LA BBQ but it was nothing like the BBQ I had in Dallas a few months before. A solid 7.5/10. Got the ribs, Mexican corn, corn bread.
OMG I went a few months ago!!! You have to try this food from APL - I got the Rack of Lamb- I screamed it was so much good and so damn good; I still think of it daily; and worth every penny!!! Can't wait to go again!!! A Must have for any meat eater!!!

I have a few apl books, board dressing technique is a game changer. Also smashing a fryer with a wine bottle. Herb brush. Many others. Him, and Chef Francis Mallmann are the most influential grilling and smoking chefs. Bobby Flay pfft.
Worked for him when he opened up APL in Yountville unfortunately the pandemic fucked us and he closed. He's a great guy. Amazing chef and the best at bbq hands down.
i'm from the east coast but lived in Dallas and now live in LA and I have to say that LA has just way better food in general. Meat and produce are just way fresher and the highest qualities of those items is hands down way better than most anywhere else except for maybe tropical for fruit and is on par with mediterranean produce as they have similar climates. There's also no contest for the meat as well .
Texas BBQ and brisket is way overrated, to be honest it sucks big time, Memphis, Carolinas, GA, LA, and NY has better BBQ. Texas meats stinks, and is awful 😖!

When i lived in the south circa 2011-15 these bbq pits were all over the place, usually the best ones were a hole-in-the-wall type establishments, or one that only locals knew about. The price was dirt cheap and no lines of hysteria. Bbq was part of the culture and ppl were so used to it that it wasnt really a big deal.
