Very good and instructive video to reactivate Karate-knowledge after years of non-practice. As it is I used to train Shotokan-Karate when I was a youngster and kept up with it until my mid-twenties. Then I had a very hard accident with my right knee so that it would not work as well as before anymore. However, I started a new training in Wing Tsun and there I realized how valuable all my previous knowledge from Shotokan was. Some months later (I already have an intermediate level of Wing Tsun now) I heard our Sifu (Chinese word for "Sensei") say the following: "depending on your moving habits or your previous knowledge of other martial arts each and every one of you will build up another individual style of Wing Tsun. Those who did Karate in the past will be able to understand movements and techniques another way than people who never attended a course in self-defense before. Judokas or wrestlers will practice another form of Wing Tsun than people coming from Karate or Tae Kwon Do." Actually I understood what he meant: "Every movement (turn, hip-vibration) or technique (punch, kick, block etc.) you learn is a PLUS for your capacity to defend yourself. So I re-started to have a look at Karate again, checked the principles of each technique I recalled and...voilà! There are no limits to combine techniques, methods (e.g. Ka Kie, Chi-Sao, Kihon-Ippon Kumite...). It's a whole universe opening up in front of me! Marvelous!
Thank you so much for your kind words! Karate is long, life is short - take as long as you need to learn. There is no rush at all, especially when taking the time to learn basics :)

I have only done a small amount of teaching with children. It is not something I really like to do, but always try to do well. You and Che are extraordinary. This is a great video, such good explanations. The kids in your program are VERY fortunate. You will, I think, have an incredible impact in their lives while carrying on a great TMA tradition. All the Best!
Ah, what a special and heartwarming comment! Teaching kids is as hard as it is rewarding - yesterday I wanted to tear out all of my hair because it was a particularly rough day of hearing "Sensei sensei sensei sensei" in surround sound, but it is also important for me to remember that they just want to share in what I know and to share what they love with me. It is a privilege to be able to teach karate full time, and one we will always be grateful for :)
Basics are so important. It can be considered that basics are the start of mastery....when one can hone the fundamentals. The reason is because if someone has not got good basics they wont move well later on with advanced material. Great video !👍
Definitely! Can't build a mansion on sand - a strong foundation is important, regardless of the style. Thank you for the lovely comment, and apologies for the late reply - we're working though the comment backlog >.

More than 40 years since I had the privilege of being taught traditional IOGKF Okinawan Goju Ryu...and the form is STILL as perfect as it was then. Thank you and well done.
The first time I'm 46 I've haven't done this since I received my black belt at 11 years old. It's a great starter to me if you get rid of the recommendations. I live here in California, I'm doing this for myself it wasn't enjoyable when my parents were being very pushy we're pushing me away for years for some reason when my mother passed away I started to get a niche for it I don't know what it was but I do remember having counseling with my counselor and he asked me those questions and he asked me why don't I go back to it I said a good question for myself who started to dab a little bit and I noticed that it was there I don't know where it'll take me but I do know that I can incorporate it in a lot of things
It is always wonderful to hear of someone who made their way back to something at the right time of their lives. My blushes, sir! I'm so sorry to be replying so late - I'm getting back into the swing of content management and creation, and we're also adding online classes! So you may not have to travel across the world to train with me after all :) www.grkc1978.com/post/online-goju-ryu-karate-classes-with-the-karate-spouses

White belt to white belt sigh🙄 but hopefully one day I can afford 💪real lessons🙏

Your so good. Thank You so Much. Greetings from Tanzania

Good. A very clear explanation.
Awesome! That's what we aim for, thanks for the feedback! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment - we appreciate you!
More than 40 years since I had the privilege of being taught traditional IOGKF Okinawan Goju Ryu...and the form is STILL as perfect as it was then.
Thank you and well done.
Ah, this is such a lovely, lovely comment to brighten up my friday, good Citizen! Thank you so much, truly :)
I hope you can continue to enjoy your journey at your own pace, and that it will last for many years :) Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment, we always appreciate it :)
it's amazing skills for new beginners like me, thank you@sensei fresh recaps

Thank you for the very easy to follow tutorial, while still being technically precise! Your teaching ability is equal to your high level of skills in demonstrating the techniques. ✌🥋👊
Wow, thank you! What a lovely, lovely comment to receive :) I'm so glad it was helpful to you, and I wish you all the best on your karate journey to come. Happy new year!
Thank you I need because soon I Will go to karate 🥋
Best of luck! You can do it! Please tell us how your first lesson goes :)
It was good 👍
Thank you, thank you, thank you! You're a fantastic instructor. My daughter is 4.5 and we just started her in lessons. Her first night was overwhelming; the other students already know many of the beginner level moves and terms/language. This will help us so much! I wish you were here in Florida (well the U.S. version anyhow) . Yep, had to look up your Dojo - then your personal blog. You have a new fan. 🙂
Ah, Nicole, this brought such great joy to me! Please tell your daughter that I am so glad she is enjoying my video, and that I hope to produce an updated one soon soon for her and her age group! I am honoured to be a small part of her amazing journey ❤ I am also so glad that you enjoy my blog - one day, I'll get to writing more on it. Working hard on building the dojo and the youtube channel, and the blog has fallen away a little bit, to my shame. You know how busy mom life is!
Thanks again, and all the best to your little one. I always love to hear of the young girls coming up the mountain of karate.
Sam Montgomery's West Coast TKD was awesome!!!

Thank you so much I love your videos u make it so comfortable for me to learn and easy to learn the move
I'm so glad! This is all I hope for with my little video :) I wish you a long and rewarding karate journey ahead 🌺
