My Ming is 37 years old. I have propagated it by cuttings in water and given many plants away to friends through the years. Mings are very finicky about being moved. I keep mine by a full length window but not directly in the sun. I started my plant in hydroponics for many years but eventually I repotted it into soil. It grew much faster once repotted into soil. They don't like a wet soil so I water mine from the bottom and give it just a little sprinkle on top. They don't mind a little neglect so they can dry out a bit.

      Saludos cordiales y bendiciones.

Thanks for the video! I just saw a Ming Aralia today at Home Depot for $9.98. Even though its beauty caught my eye, I didnt end up buying it..yet bc I dont know much about it. I cant wait to go back tomorrow and purchase it and give it a try. Fingers crossed I can keep mine alive!

Good luck on yours! Mine both died :( But if it helps, I've learned that they like bright, indirect sunlight, and they love humidity, and hate to be over watered. They're super pretty, but super temperamental.

I got my ming about 2 years ago as a small plant. It's now about 3 feet tall. I water once a week with a very, very dilute food in a gallon jar. It has a lovely area. Filtered light in my bedroom, very bright. It produced small flowers last year which surprised me. I would show you a pic but can't figure out how to do it. I must have the right conditions because it hasn't[t been hard to raise.

Amelia's are an acidic plant. Use Kanuma soil or Akadama with pumice, etc.

I love ming aralias! I had one last two years of college dorm life and then almost two years of seventh grade classroom life. I didn't know anything about plants then and it thrived. Once I began paying attention to it (repotting it, moving it) it got root rot and died. I bought another for $35 (yikes) and am going the neglect method again. Doing great, tons of growth!! But growth is all green stems, no big trunk additions yet. PLEASE, like Savannah said, do an update on the propagation! I might try that soon since mine needs a trim.

hey, I've been watching Nigel Saunders, and He's been using some of that clear wood glue to seal these thin-barked bonsai. I haven't used it, but none of his trees have died. (shrug)
I have a ming bonsai, semi raft style. You'll have no problem getting them to root in water, but get them into a pot when the roots are about 1/3rd of an inch.

Please please please do an update video on the propagations! I'm in the same boat as you when it comes to these plants and I just bought a beautiful ming aralia for $50 and would love to do the same with mine I'm just so worried it will die!

None of the cuttings survived. Nor did the main plant unfortunately. It died for unknown reasons a couple months ago.

@@BonsaiBoise They're incredibly princess-like. I just water root my aralias - works great 90% of the time, but they are incredibly slow rooting. They HATE being waterlogged (in soil) ... a decent amount of sand mixed into the soil help immeasurably. Regular potting mixes can go from a-OK to full leaf-drop in second it seems. I use a cactus-friendly mix with about 25% sand & peat mixed in. Trick is the mix needs to hold moisture AND remain fairly airy but dense (which is why sand helps). Once you find the right combination, Mings will go gangbusters. But they hate draft changes.

Water really well only once every 2 weeks, they don't like wet soil. Not full sun, indirect sunlight and no breeze or draft. Mine really responds to a red spectrum led plant light.

Interestingly enough, I am about to post an update on this because I think it's dead.

They are a hard plant for people who work with trees a lot. You need to neglect them and they will thrive. I also think you need more soil than 50/50.

Depending on where I go (Burnaby, Canada) . These "China Doll" as there also call. Are very expensive. How ever, if you go to a big box store. You can grab one for a reasonable price.

It’s better to take a little out of the Root hormone in a separate container so as not to contaminate the jar

I have 1 beautiful bonsaI version 4 years old, with 2 big trunks. suddenly, leaves on 1 side started falling... when I touch that trunk, it's 'floppy', and it seems to be more and more...
Anyone knows what happened. Thank you for your advices

put floppy side in full sunlight! cut any dead leaves or branches off and give water very little
