    The Gibson SG is Back in Black…and Heritage Cherry!
    The Gibson SG Standard, pictured here in Ebony, needs no introduction. It's easily one of the most recognisable guitars on the planet, widely known as one of the best rock, metal and hard rock guitars of all time. The Gibson SG from the Gibson Modern Collection rocks the classic looks and features associated with the late 60s style SG™ models sought after by many, providing the look, feel and sound that so many guitarists have relied on for their hard rock sound. A rounded profile mahogany neck, bound rosewood fingerboard, long tenon 19th fret neck joint, and a solid mahogany body provide the backbone for singing sustain and bone-crunching riffs. The 490R and 490T Alnico 2 pickups provide the power to drive, but clean up nicely when you need them to - we suggest blending pickups when you can to open up a world of tones on your guitar and get every sound possible from your SG. A black, 5-ply, full-face pickguard set this SG Standard apart from others... a truly versatile electric guitar that is as comfortable playing blues, jazz and country as it is playing metal and hard rock. The Gloss Nitrocellulose Lacquer finish will age beautifully the more you play it, showing a storied history - just like a guitar should!

    The standard SG’s that have been coming out the last 5 years are the best ever made.

    IMO. the '61 Standard SG is better for hard rock/metal if you like traditional SG's (the SG Modern w/24 frets if you don't). The slightly thinner neck profile and the '61'Burstbucker in the bridge cuts much better than the 490T in the large batwing SG Standard. I can work with most Gibson pickups except for the 490T (the 490R in the neck is fine). I switched the 490T in my SG Standard with a Duncan JB and NOW it does metal. That being said, I left the stock '61 Burstbucker in my '61 SG Standard.

      interesting, i've read comments from many people who feel the exact opposite and do not like the burstbuckers

      @@rainypath96 When you say the "exact opposite" are you saying "many people" like the 490's better than the '61's or just don't like Burstbuckers?? Not all Burstbuckers are created equally. Most are Alnico 2 but the '61' Burstbuckers have A5 magnets like the Pros. I'm not saying they're the best Gibson pickups, I'm saying they cut better than the 490's in the SG Standard. IMO the 490's are totally dull and uninspiring especially for metal.

      @@rainypath96 I never cared for the 490 combo until I got my SG Standard. Now, I love them.

      tone is in the player. they are both great. get on with it

    • @Darth.Shredder
      @Darth.Shredder 4 месяца назад

      @@wce74wce15 Tone is NOT only in the player. Ability can make the best of something but it can not change everything. I said it was MY OPINION that the '61 is better and I own both. Do you see the difference? Mine is an experienced opinion.. YOU speak as if you are stating facts. You are stating YOUR OPINION just like I did. Get on with it.

    I have an SG in Red Cherry. Never liked the pickups so I put in Burstbuckers as the 490/498s are less gain than Burstbuckers. Always liked the guitar with the bigger "batwing" pickguard. I always viewed it as the poor guys' Les Paul, same electronics but much cheaper. Overall the tone is not as thick as a Les Paul but it still has its own unique tone.
