It wasn't even like a quick hit or anything they freaking held it there!! It's also so hard to believe that no adult would do a SINGLE thing. (even though when i was being picked on in school and i told a teacher, they told me to either ignore it. or if it was a boy doing it "he's only doing it because he likes you") that shit only happens in anime so that was a load of crap XD but i'd think to that extent someone would have done SOMETHING.

    • @kimdaniel2601
      @kimdaniel2601 Год назад +5

I think it’s more how each country’s writers use bullying as plot device. Bullying is always manipulation in some way.
I think kdramas often focus a lot on the societal hierarchy and corruption and this shows up in how the corruption protects the bully.
In a U.S. drama they often don’t use societal corruption as a plot devise.
I also think US dramas-even serious ones make the bulky characters the comic relief which even if we hate the bulky gives them a different vibe from the kdrama bully.
Bullies in both are often caricatures of the real thing.

Maybe they should change the shows. Because honestly kids do get influenced by what they see on TV. Also as an American it’s really bizarre to hear and I don’t understand that at all, being completely honest.
I read a lot of manwha lately-Korean comics-and it was really strange to me all the bullying in it. It honestly is kind of not interesting in a way because literally every single story is basically about bullying. I’m not even joking.
It was perplexing to me, and still is. I started noticing it and I was like, good grief ANOTHER story about bullying, wth.
I can’t even explain how strange it is.
And I even grew up with a disability. I born with a disability.
But I never ever have seen anything as ridiculous as the bullying in Korean media.
And yes, I say ridiculous because it is. It’s silly. It’s over-reacting to every little thing.
So, anyways I think media should change. I know you guys in Korea might find that insensitive but it’s true that essentially standards in society do come from things like media. If every single story shows teenagers doing these crazy things then that’s kind of normalizing that behavior in my opinion.
And trust me, it’s NOT normal. As an outsider this is not normal behavior.

Also remember a girl in one of my classes not showing up to class for a week bc she had gotten beaten by a group of bullies.

    • @londonfoggy
      @londonfoggy Год назад +10

Definitely true, but the issue is that with Korea they live in a culture where they HAVE to use honorifics. Therefore if someone is considered 'younger' or of a lower class then the bullying is almost more accepted. Parents pay the schools to not say anything, the teachers try to get out of dealing with bullies and those who do bully (more like torture) they get off typically with a slap of the wrist and that's that-- whereas if you're caught cheating, then you'll be expelled. My point is that they almost endorse the bullying and schools jump through hoops to appear to be the perfect school. A poll showed that 1 in every 10 korean gets bullied-- PHYSICALLY bullied, not just verbal. 1 in 10 deal with phsycial abuse. Worse, 25% of students are suicidal and 25% of those students are because of severe bullying.
Kids just get away with stuff and it doesn't show up on their record while the victims suffer. It's a huge HUGE issue over there. This video goes over it pretty well: ruclips.net/video/7hp4BLP1tYg/видео.html

The bullying that occurs in American dramas tends to be very outright physical or emotional abuse, and while this type of bullying does occur in schools, there is also a lot more subliminal bullying that can be more difficult to "prove" as bullying, so the victims may struggle to have it addressed.

Bullying in Korea is always like this. They bully psychologically and mentally, not always physically. The bullies always prey on the people they usually see as weak and troubled in psyche or character (e.g. loners, conscious of their appearance, poor socioeconomic/family background, no family/orphan, etc.) -- these are the ones who are easy to manipulate and abuse because they are always looked down not only in school but also outside - by the general public themselves. Meanwhile, bullies in America depend more on a person's status and identity in a specific area only. Like if the person is in a specific well-supported community or group in the school (e.g. sports clubs like the football team, cheerleading team, etc.), the students will not touch you. As long as you have a certain reputable/good identity and are part of a group that is loved not scorned in that school, no matter if you look gorgeous or plain, rich or poor, with living parents or not, you will not be bullied.

@lemonssssssss4Bullying happens everywhere and bullies will always find a reason no matter how small it is to do it. When it comes to bullying, there is no worse/greater than the other, all of its kind still give painful trauma to the receiving end. It's just that, as this video tries to, it differentiates how bullying is often done in Western vs Eastern (US vs Asia). It's a representation of today's bullying in these areas. But who knows, maybe psychological bullying DOES happen in the West (America) but was just kept or ignored too. It's like a disease where there are many factors that contribute to it and culture and tradition can play a part on it. Hopefully schools will have more preventive measures to avoid such cases. As far as I have researched, few years back, Korea and Japan are the two countries with the highest suicidal cases and most of them are due to trauma from related incidents.

I thought that I would meet some annoying bully arch-nemesis from a popular clique and then we would try to face off each other doing stuff like that and that I would be able to attend their Sweet 16 Birthday Party and meet some jock and fall in love with him and drink tons of punch. As I got older, I realized that bullying is no joke, it really can psychologically affect someone in a negative way, and the trauma can last until adulthood for some students. Also, situations like "dance offs" aren't likely to happen because nowadays, bullying is mostly done online.

Honestly, it’s pretty sad to see how those were mostly based on real events. I wish there were more k-dramas where they stand up for themselves. This type of sh*t never happened to me cuz my parents always told me that I may be beaten up, but I need to, at least, punch them back once. So maybe I can help anyone…
*how to beat bullying: a guide(?) by me*
So, I never was a victim for many reasons, such as it is not so common in my country and I often fight people when they try to get big on me. So here’s some things I do and recommend. Hope it can help you somehow.
    *-Dont be scared of retaliation!*
Stand up for yourself, you’re not supposed to bow to no one but people u admire. I know it may sound “oh, you think it’s easy” but it really is crucial to tell others and to do something about it. If u don’t do it, hardly someone will do it for u. You are the most important being in your life, protect yourself, know your worth. Bullies tend to ignore people who are confident cuz they need someone to fill their needs of superiority complex.
    *-Improvise Weapons*
In a situation the bullies are in a bigger number or u are in a physical disadvantage, always search for things u can use as weapon. If u see a chair, use that. Bullies usually give up when they realize u will defend yourself. They want people who will quiver, so they can feel powerful.
*-Act crazy, pretend you’re not scared*
Depending on the country, acting crazy by screaming, laughing meanly and sh*t talking (such as saying u will revenge and etc) will make them back off. However, there are cases they will want the thrill of making u bow to them, these are the ones u should worry. If that’s the case, it can escalate to extremely dangerous situations, which lead to our most important topic…
    *-Tell the police!*
I know it’s scary and u don’t want to make a fuss about it, but just as I said at the start, you are the most precious in your life, protect yourself at all costs. If the family of the bully is rich and people will try to make u give up, or even if the police doesn’t take it so seriously, *post it online* maybe even tell small media… we live in a society that uses social media for everything, use that in your favor.
*-You must have something u can use as a threat against them.*
If none of the above work, this is a powerful move that can make u win in any situation in life. It is not ethical, I don’t personally like it, but sometimes it’s necessary. Don’t pity them, they would not do the same to you, better be sorry than hurt. Just like in war, the more you have to lose, the less u will want to fight, same goes for humans. You must know your enemy to fight him, find a secret, anything that could mess up this person and use this as a threat. As long as is not too much and it’s legal, u are only protecting yourself so don’t feel sorry.
And, the worse case scenario: they get physical.
    *-How to Physically defend yourself:*
    *-Always aim for deadly parts*
The human body is strong, therefore, hardly u will kill someone only using your strength and no weapon, so don’t worry.
*•Places to aim and how to do it:*
    *•Addams Apple*
*Use with caution, this can get dangerous*
Punch the neck right at the addam’s apple(works for both genres) so they lose their breath, this will give u one minute or even more, use that to get help. I would rather be cautious, u don’t know how fast that person can recover and how much time u will need to get help. Personally, I would h*rt the person even more (by kicking/stepping on their legs so they won’t follow you and specially aim on their belly button or even the Addams Apple again, cuz losing breath is the most effective way to imobilize someone that isn’t used to fighting). After securing time, run.
    *-Nose*
Punching someone in the nose is a very good way to gain time, the nose is one of the most painful parts of our bodies, since it’s mostly cartilage and has many capillaries providing blood.
    *-Intimate parts*
kick/punch, anything u do to someone’s private parts will hurt them. People usually think it only works for men, but it works for both genres. However, it does indeed hurt more in men, since it’s the most sensitive part of their bodies. In a woman, if you can’t aim at her lower half, punch her breast with all your strength and right in the middle. I’m sure this will give u some time.
    *•Temples*
*Use with caution, this can get dangerous*
This one is for people who are strong and are very body conscious. Aiming the temple the right way and using enough strength can make someone pass out. It is harder, but it’s certainly more effective. Use it with caution!
    *•Chin•*
    *Caution, this can get dangerous*
Fighters love to punch this area cuz it makes your brain “rotate” inside of your head and it also moves the liquid we have in our ears that keeps us standing. Punching someone at the chin the right way can make them pass out or even get more serious consequences.
    *-Feet:*
Step at their feet with all your strength and your might and they will feel excruciating pain. The upper part of our feet doesn’t have much muscles protecting the thin bones we have in that area, therefore, stepping at it can cause great pain.
*Thats it, hope it helped anyone*

    • @RyfkahChan
      @RyfkahChan Год назад +2

just want to add that the reason women will be hurt if you kick them in the privates is mainly because you quickly hit a bone if you kick them between the legs. the bone is more towards the front/below the belly, so if you need to hurt a woman badly, for self defence....

I could write a story on how to deal with bullies in any school or college or university in any country including my own, but that wouldn't be enough to actually stop real life bullies from doing stuff to innocent victims, even if they fought back. That being said, I was nearly a bully before I dealt with real life consequences for my actions and it took me awhile to realize that I don't have to live with my pain from my past and present. Sometimes you need empathy with bullies, because violence is not always the answer when someone else tries to avenge their friend or relative against you. Believe me, I had to learn that the hard way.

Manipulation tactics is spot on , i watched some kdramas shows and that was like watching worse than any horror movie i watched , also i remember i was being so pissed off on the bullies which means actors did a damn good job portraying the bullies

Yeah according to all the kdramas I watched, Korean bullies are no joke, like they can bully you from middle school, to high school and collage. And the bullies come in all forms, like they might be a straight A student with rich parents to poor gangsters 😅

Asian kids who grew up in East and South East Asia know first hand how terrible and manipulative bullying can be there. Most adults don't do anything in fear of "controversy", because they want to keep the reputation of their school intact.
While bullies from more improvished families can be dangerous, I personally believe the rich kids are the worst. They can literally do whatever they want; blackmail, sexual assault, even manslaughter and still get away.
I pray for whoever is going through that type of treatment right now. I got over it by taking martial arts and just legitimately standing up for myself, being well versed enough in local law and having friends who care. I hope you do those things too.

Years ago, my first kdrama was Boys Over Flowers, and let me tell you as a westerner I was not prepared 😂 The whiplash from toxic bullying to dramatic embraces was too much.

K dramas bullying is chilling and frightening to the bones. Cos 1, they come up with threats that could only be from a psychopath and 2, they follow up on these threats. Like the heck, in every kdrama student series, they always have a bully who looks freaking cool, dresses outside of the school appropriate uniform and has 4 or 5 boys tagging along like minions who do their bidings. Don't even get me started on their girls. I'm still in love with kdramas cos it's realistic just as bullying in my country is. We rarely show it on screen though.

The acting for bullying in Kdrama is on point that it's scarier than a horror film (and I indulge in horror). Especially after watching The Glory, Penthouse and Weak Hero Class 1...

Even in manhwas (korean comics) too. How bullying was done there were absolutely terrifying, and how it could lead to s*icide or even murder. One of the most horrifying bullying I've seen in a manhwa is in Yeonwoo's innocence. It's so jaw breaking how the bully didn't get any consequences for their actions

I don't watch K-dramas but I read manhwas and the bullies are either like this or they beat up and publicly humiliate their victim(s) to make them do everything they want, generally buy them stuff, do their homework and carry their stuff for them

Bro the thing abt K-drama bullying(from what I’ve seen) is that the bully threatens them and beats them up, and then is like “we’re friends, right?” Like manipulating them. Basically like it justifies what they’re doing somehow? Just an observation😅✨
