We are the luckiest people in the world to be able to watch your family build a home. !!! The existence of your family enriches that of my family, seeing in your videos how you make a home. We follow you from Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. Warm greetings from my wife Conchi, our son Jesus and my own Joseph. !!!
Thanks Josh & Erin for showing us the build process on your A frame. It's getting my husband & I inspired to prepare for building our retirement home hopefully soon. Still going through the design phase & trying to decide what style of home we really want because we see so many good ideas like your A frame. It's a toss up right now between an A frame style & a barn shape. Great job you two!!!
Hi from an AC tech in Texas, you had me wailing in a previous vid about being an Electrician with no tape, been there. I wanted to thank you for responding to those online concerns, with the limited knowledge I have you filled in a few big gaps I have in understanding wiring for a solar/generator setup. Love your channel, it's really what RUclips was meant to be!
Watching you use those linemans pliers really takes me back. I watched my father use his a million times. The ultimate universal tool. He's dead now but those pliers that were bought in the late 1950s are in my sons toolbox and still being used today.
Thanks for explaining the valid comments and why your situation is different. Simple for you because you’re in the trade but a learning opportunity for those of us who only dabble. Very much enjoy your channel.
Great job Josh. You know what you are doing! Thanks though for explaining things so good. It is fun to watch you work with electrical. Everyone should be able to see that you have mastered your craft and we can tell by watching you that you have done this many, many times!
Great video. Thanks for slowing down a little from the last video. So glad to see your progress. Looks like things are progressing right along. You two are doing such a great job.
Absolutely LOVE watching a pro at work - makes it look super easy (which it's not) even the simple act of bending wires in junction boxes is much more difficult than he makes it look. I also appreciate the detail around why they made the decision to do what they've done - he did in the earlier video but I think folks either missed it or didn't understand. Great work and great setup!
I've been watching your videos lately and I have to say you guys are awesome. The house you're building is awesome and a lot of hard work. But you make it look so easy. I'm moving to West Texas this month to do the same thing. But Social security money means I have to build it in phases. Keep the videos coming I enjoy watching you kids work together.
I’ve been in the trade for 35 plus years and it’s pure artistry when I watch an experience electrician who’s been taught correctly the trade, with that said scares the hell out of me when a DYI tries the do the same thing
Thank you for doing that. You two are an absolute Joy. I know life is not rainbows and unicorns, but you two seem to work together well and make remarkable Headway. Only blessings and well wishes for the new year.
It makes my heart so glad to watch y'all. You both are very focused knowledgeable and so much fun to watch. Josh's beard is getting long and really looks great on him. Loved the silly bloopers 🤪. The Lord bless you and your precious family in the new year!!💖
I did the same worked as described. I agree with Mike V’s comments. Document it and train all adults or acting adults on use and non users on the hazards. Smart move off grid. The day is here and your almost ready... Very smart.
Great video. Thanks for the direct approach on the panel. Dnt slow down. Dnt take crap. U guys r doing a great job together. Hope the new year finds u well.
I live in very rocky area and have been looking into solar power or running a generator. For my shop i hope to start building in the next year. Thank you for the videos.
He starts talking about the panel and my eyes start to glaze over because it’s all I hear from my husband after he gets home from work 😂😂😂 In all seriousness though, I’m super proud of him and I appreciate all he does for our family. It’s a blessing to be married to an electrician 💕
Love your clips. Place is coming right along. Subscribed when I heard you say 1/8" gap on all sides of the OSB....I knew I found a real framer. Good luck in 2019
Really happy you 'splained about the safety concerns on "back loading the breaker box" Looking forward to seeing the solar portion of your build as I am familiar with that process. One suggestion is that you use a simple diagram to better illustrate the relationship between the generator and solar array thru the inverter. Solar power is in the news a lot but few understand the process involved from thru the controller, batteries and finally in the breaker box. I've seen setups involving everything from the two volt huge batteries to the ones for a golf cart to finally deep cycle trolling motor types. Just anxious to see your system.
Small request - When you discover cool products like the adjustable light color recessed fixtures it would be cool if you could post a link in the description. Many of us watch for ideas on our own projects and appreciate that you did the homework on cool products. I also understand you are leading your lives and building a house so it may be a bit too much right now. Thank you for making the videos and I wish your family the best!
Erin and Josh, Happy New Year to you and your family. I wish you all the best . I look foreward to your videos and seeing the progress you're making. You're an inspiring young couple. The kind of people that made this great country.
Making headway, very cool. I'm getting some education on electrical, thanks for that. Wishing a warm and peaceful 2019 to you guy's. Looking forward to more on the build !!
I have wired my supply just like that and had one problem. No one else in the family could follow even written directions. I would be 100 miles away and the power was out at home because of a storm. We got by, but if I had to do it again it would be all automatic switching and starting. Second is I would only use bulk propane. Last is I put my generator about 250 feet away. That was about right.
I not only like what you're doing but how you're doing it. Well done and all the best in the new year. By the way, I have subscribed to start the year off on the right foot!
Im glad you guys didn't take the criticisms to heart, or as attacks etc - but honestly, this is why people should watch whole videos before commenting. I'm pretty sure you've said many times that it'll be solar in, not mains :)
Great job man. Very professional talking it out. Keep up the great work. I have a transfer switch on my home. Big fan from south Caroline. Ps your wife is a 10 and you have a beautiful family.
I have a suggestion 4 u guys, happy new year by the way. As u were making the video, I kept hearing the generator in the background & I would suggest u build a sound cover 4 it which should muffle about 80 - 90% of the sound that way u wont LOSE IT (lol) after hearing that thing run all day. Just build a 3 sided box with a cover, (leaving the exhaust side open 4 ventilation) & place it over the generator & turn it so that the vent side is facing away from u so any noise will be going away from u. U can make from plywood in about 10-15 minutes, also u can put insulation on the inside of the box that would help with the sound even more.(rigid insulation only).
Excellent description of how the power works, how it COULD be a problem if it were a permanent install and why none of that matters in your case. Curious as to the waterproofness of the generator and power inlet boxes. Do they have O rings or some other water excluding device. I know many people think that an outdoor boxes with flaps that cover the outlet are OK to use when in fact the flaps are only water excluding when nothing is plugged in and they are closed. Unsafe to plug something in when the weather is inclement.
Thank you, Josh, for confirming everything that I needed to know!!... I'm pretty much setting up the very same system you are, using Midnite Solar components. I'm also using Mission Solar 370-watt PERC-72 panels, as they are made in San Antonio Texas. As always, I really do enjoy Your and Erin's efforts, and your openness and willingness to share!!
I subscribe for you guys because It is really hard to come out and work very hard as u guys did and not giving up.. Not all ppl are willing and can what u guys did..
I really love your videos, they are so informative. Sometimes I wish Josh would slow down just a tad bit. I have had to go back a re-listen to what he said, and I don't want to miss anything. He is very knowledgable.
Happy New Year all....I love those red clouds but here in Oz of a morning .it usually means rain is likely and if the kookaburra's are making a racket then all the wise people dress appropriately or get wet. Gee it looks really cold there to boot. Being a chippie in oz and only having 240vac I can't really get my head around the way it works there and it looks really complicated but you seem to have your head around it. Clever young blokes like you will always succeed at whatever you do.
Wow Josh I must have missed this part of your house build thought I saw every episode, reason I'm here today 9-18-20 is I'm installing a generator to house hook up ,kool😎 say hello to the family 😀
Have you guys explained why you're using AFCI breakers only in the laundry room? Code? I've heard these $$ things are required on almost every circuit now in new construction. Love the videos, electrical ones have been especially informative. Thanks for sharing your build!
Yes your right on the money on this. But if you where on grid a separate panel would be required for your back up power. A switch that would open and switch over to a different feed in. Lots of discussion on this when it comes to the neutral leg. Break the bond or keep it bonded. But your off grid. No worries.
WOW!, Josh, you sure can speak fast!! Boom-Boom & Boom! Don't get nervously excited 😅being in front of the camera do you? That's alright 👌, ya done good; a video well worth watching more than once. Thanks, you answered my [future] set up/hook up questions I'd been considering.👏 HOPE Y'ALL HAVE A HAPPY, HEALTHY, BLESSED and DREAMS COME TRUE NEW YEAR❗️
Ok I watched 2 videos so far, 1. You 2 are awesome, 2. Josh must be an electrician or a well learned contractor, 3. Did he serve in the military? If so thank you for your service Sir!
We have our set up in an area we walk by every day so we can touch and watch it. One day we noticed partially melting and over heating and immediately shut everything off. It was a fuse that was between the controller and the batteries. It was faulty and didn’t blow but just created heat and would have burnt our house down if we hadn’t noticed it.
Great video. Also you must work in the trades because you know what you are doing. Great build. And I have to say your wife could out work most men. Looking great. That looks like a pretty efficient way to build.
See the standing seam roof is on. Cant wait for that video. Did you at least put bird blocks in between the roof A frame rafters where they meet the floor?
That is so cool that your generator will charge your batteries. Might it ever make sense to have the generator located closer to the battery house? Is it possible the generator could be electrically started when the batteries drop below a minimum charge?
Thanks for showing us the power box inlet hook up . Your wife does great camera work there zooming in on the job so we can all see . As for not showing us your wife , we all know she is there working right beside you Josh . Josh maybe when you talk you can slow down a bit . You're hard to under stand at times . Your wife with that beautiful voice , no problem in understanding her . Happy New Year . 9000 views already . You guys are going to be famous . LOL
Most breaker box companies sell something called a "generator interlock". It attaches to the breaker box cover and prevents both grid power and generator power from being turned on at the same time. Of course, you have no grid power, so ...
You should link to those products (the bulbs in particular) with affiliate links in the description, you can help us find them and also make a few dollars on each sale! :)

It is wonderful to see a RUclipsr whose electrical work is on point (I'm looking at you PLFL)! Nice work Josh

I am encouraged by how quickly your videos (filming, editing) are progressing. Good stuff!

Great video !! Josh is so knowledgeable and explains this simply to the point !! Best wishes for this new year !!
Surprisingly i never have any doubts about any of the work yall do or have done, everything looks A1 to us, Great Job on all of it!!!

I live in very rocky area and have been looking into solar power or running a generator. For my shop i hope to start building in the next year. Thank you for the videos.
Great to see Josh laughing again.

Good job, those lights are so cool. I also wired in some switches and outlets before my finished wall.
This has to be your best video ever! Thanks! You have good taste in voltmeters too. (I have the same one for over twenty years now. Fluke yeah!)

Great install, seems simple enough. I have those same lights, seem to work great so far!
I like those led lights with the adjustable settings. Will have to make a note of those for our house build
Happy New Year to your Family. Stay safe and warm.
