As a parent, the creepiest part of this movie was the parents. Micromanage and manipulate their child till he has zero confidence, then force an adult woman on him (whom they are literally paying to seduce him without his knowledge or consent) in hopes it will bring him out of his shell. And then at the end theyre still struggling to let him make his own choices. I'm not calling abuse...but it does give me major creeps...
I swear parents like this just refuse to admit they have anxiety and over time it just gets worse.
Stuff like this makes me think Anxeity is the most common undiagnosed mental illness in existence

It’s abuse. This whole movie is disgusting. Like, as an SA survivor this made me feel pissed. Some of us just don’t wanna have sex. Idk why that’s made out to be such a spectacle but it just reinforces my belief that the average person is such a lying, manipulative, conceited POS that the idea of procreating with ANY human being becomes fucking disgusting & stuff like this just reinforces that trauma to the next level. Seeing this blatant predatory behavior put on full display & painted as a “comedy” actually makes my blood boil.
Very well said. Seems like they make movies like this because there are some excited at the prospect of a woman having sex with a boy especially when the parents are supportive. Jennifer Lawrence is a beautiful woman and the interest in seeing her in being intimate with a boy is exciting to many. I think it's disturbing, maybe even disgusting. But today's values have changed drastically. Everything is available now and open. Just keep an eye on your children. It's going to get worse.
So this movie is actually based off of a true story. The producers of this movie found a real-life ad on craigslist about this. They sent the ad to the director, who then sent it to Jennifer Lawrence. Everyone was on board to make this movie based on how funny the ad was.

This is a weird concept of a movie but I did really like it. It was nice that she realised she was doing something wrong, genuinely started to build a friendship with him and that in the end, they didn’t end up together and remained friends.

It's basically just a rehash of Failure to Launch, but more raunchy in it's approach

Literally the only good comedy in idk how long. Which is so sad to say. In no way did she push him to do something he didn't wanna do. You can watch anything without complaining about one subject or another. Just watch a movie and enjoy it. No need to such discussions.

For those of you saying her house was already paid for, she only needed to pay taxes. If a bunch of rich people move in next door, the value of your house increases, and the taxes get huge. If you can't afford it, mortgage paid or not, you're out of luck!

This entire concept of driving up the property tax seems so wild to me as someone who isn't from the US
@@Dev_712 it's an extension of the way all the land in a kingdom belongs to the king. So we don't fully own our land bc we have to keep paying tribute in the form of property taxes to the kingdom that we call a democracy. Since we don't entirely own the land, that tribute isn't a fixed number and is based on demand. More demand for a piece of land increases its value and thus the tax increases. And since it is worth more, you can easily sell it to pay the taxes if you can't afford the current rate.
@@TheAnantaSesa yeah I get property taxes and such. What I do find weird is gentrification and how the rich people can then pretty much dictate the entire neighbourhood rules. Of course the more the demand is, the higher the price of the property and the rich neighbours would like to keep it that way so that their investment doesn't go up in flames but it just feels wild that something like that can happen to anyone and they can't do anything about it
@@Dev_712 I don't really get it either. I mean if your taxes go up bc the property value has gone up then you get to sell for a profit. But I know it's a hassle to move and a lot of the profit is lost due to the cost of moving and the natural wear and tear that reduces the sell price but isn't included in the tax value. I mean you won't mind the depressions in the carpet where your bed frame and furniture sat for several years but a new buyer might want a discount bc they "need new carpet" etc.
Same price inflation happens with normal growth as a city expands services into the suburbs and annexes them to then add city tax charges to the total property tax. The only thing I think that can be done for either catalyst is to maintain a stable community with neither population growth nor shrinking. That's nearly impossible these days with all the transportation and technological upheavals driving migrations and below replacement level fertility rates requiring fertile populations to be encouraged to emigrate as replacements.

This movie was... odd. A cougar-for-hire. Like the first writer was just doing some sh!t for literotica and then some editor picked up the story and said, wait a minute, what if we ran with the premise and tried to make it realistic. But that editor wasn't all that good as a writer either.
Actually morality in cases like this is a based off ones culture since modern Western culture dictates smaller age gaps

Despite the raunchy plot, this was actually a really good movie. Felt almost like a blast from the past despite the obvious modern day anachronisms that remind you that you’re watching a modern movie, but even those added to the comedy. It was just a good time overall

Love this channel, and Alex made some actually good points about stereotypes and tropes we see in film (and in real life). Like…daddy issues are always positioned as the fault of the character (like a major character flaw) but nobody holds the deadbeat dad accountable? Which is kinda crazy to think about
I watched this with my wife. We weren’t fans, but we couldn’t say why.
We got to the party scene where she’s literally breaking the door down, and screaming “did you f*ck him?!? Did you f*ck him?!?” At the actually age appropriate girl, while the poor guy is like barely conscious.
My wife turned to me and said “flip the sexes, and this is a horror movie”

I think the only reason people defend this is because Jenifer Lawrence is in it, even tho she has no comedic timing. It was terrible, the jokes were terrible, the acting was terrible and as you pointed out its a really messed up plot.

I wanted to dislike this film because the plot seemed predatory but I actually feel like this includes relevant topics such as how introverted younger generations have become and how far people will go to make a living. As far as getting paid to groom, a lot of parents pressure their children to settle down so I don’t think it’s an unrealistic moral dilemma.

I actually saw this movie with my girlfriend when it came out. I was just expecting it to be a dumb comedy movie but it actually touched on some interesting topics. Such as growing up, learning to be confident in yourself, and moving on to a new chapter in your life. It’s still a pretty dumb comedy movie but it definitely surprised me

I love that Jennifer Lawrence isn't taking herself too seriously, and seems to be having fun in her roles. Maddie and Percy's dynamic is sweet to watch, and while they don't officially get together, they remain friends, and he can lose his virginity on his own terms.

Watching a predictable movie with a weak script does not always turn into a bad choice especially when the cast is not bad at acting like Jennifer Lawrence, I really enjoy watching this if you just turn your brain off and just watch it anyway.

I commented the same thing!! This needs to be said more, I always hated how guys talked crap about girls with dad issues as if it was the girls fault for having a crappy father figure. It's like as a society, women legally have equal rights but socially bear ALL the responsibility for relationships while men get off scot free and get to blame women for everything. It's b.s.
Also, if anyone wants to fight me about how men supposedly pay more money and suffer more in family court, go ahead, because you're wrong. I know several women personally who divorced out of an abusive situation and they had to pay their ex child support, or buy their portion of the house from them, or fight to be financially taken care of due to disability (MS is a bitch), or just had to forgo what they were owed in child support because ex hubby wasn't paying ... I think its funny how daddy issues can result in two completely different scenarios. In those movies its always girls having a hard time to open up to guys and getting serious with them - and i threw myself head over heals into the arms of every guy who said something remotely nice to me. And I am a leech. And I always fell the hardest for way older guys..
But well. I think my daddy issues are not that big since my dad still tried to be a good weekend dad and didnt completely disappeared into thin air. Maybe thats the reason.
That might be the thing with weekend dads, they breadcrumb love and approval, in a way that does make you crave that male validation because its so sparse. The father is not around enough to actually fill that role. At least.. that seems the case from also seeing friends in similar situations.

Because people react so badly in movies when older women get paired with much younger men. Here are real life examples where men actually get away with it and nobody bats an eyelash:
Jerry Seinfeld - 17 year old GF, he was 38
Brad Pitt - 17 year old GF, he was 27
Jerry Lee Lewis - Married his 13 year old cousin at 22
Bill Wyman, Rolling Stones - 13 year old GF, he was 45

For some reason, this movie reminds me of Failure to Launch, starring Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker, with almost the same premise. Especially the Parents paying or hiring someone to sleep with their son plot. I guess the difference is that in Failure to Launch, it's to basically get him to move out and get his own place because he's a grown adult.

I saw it in theaters and just recently watched it again on Netflix. Absolutely hilarious to me both times. Funny and applicable real life lessons. But yes, if this was a man hired to “extrovert” a girl it would have a different vibe 100%. But I’m gonna enjoy this funny movie

her adopting the dog from the beginning is the best part. is it realistic that a dog with issues would be okay with a long road trip? no. is it absolutely lovely? 100%. milo looks like a german i work with called herman (who has never had an addiction or been a cop).
My fave bit is how the camera keeps cutting when Lawrence is stripping at the beach, only shoulder-up, from the back, you think okay, that's it....and next thing you know there she is, full frontal and a wild fight scene completely nude and stunning. That's an amazing bit she totally sells.
I absolutely love your videos and I loved this too, but the highlight got to be the line "like the kid who fought Zeus"...because I'm a hardcore Percy Jackson fan and hearing that reference anywhere makes my day😅😅😅
