  • Which poker player comes to mind when you think of the greatest of all time? Phil Ivey has to be a name that is floated around in that discussion! He has earned the right to be considered one of the GOAT’s because he can play any hand from any position against anyone! Even if it happens to be the worst starting hand in poker, 72o! Here he is playing it against one of the best online tournament players of this generation; Jans Arends! He is set up for a huge cooler in this particular spot as he flops bottom two pair against top two pair, but can he find a way to fold?
Try to play dynamic wet boards aggressively when you have a strong but vulnerable hand, such as two pair or strong top pairs. There will be many turn cards that will weaken the absolute strength of your hand and put you in an uncomfortable situation if you were to face a lot of aggression from your opponent.
Phil Ivey ‘The Tiger Woods of Poker’, or ‘RaiseOnce’ on PokerStars, is an American professional poker player and a regular at the highest stakes tournaments and cash games all around the world. He has over $41,000,000 in live tournament earnings, putting him in the top 15 on the all-time money list. He has 10 World Series Of Poker (WSOP) bracelets (joint with Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan; only Phil Hellmuth has more). Phil Ivey is considered by many to be one of the greatest all-round poker players.
Jans Arends ‘Graftekkel’ is a professional poker player from the Netherlands. He has over $5,500,000 in live tournament earnings, putting him in the top 300 on the all-time money list. He has 2 WSOP bracelets, his most recent was from the 2023 $100,000 No Limit Hold'em - High Roller - 8-Handed event for $2,576,729. His first came from the 2022 $1,000 No Limit Hold'em - Double Chance online event for $129,745.
Triton Poker was founded in 2015 by Paul Phua and Richard Yong; they aimed to attract a healthy mixture of recreational poker players and seasoned poker professionals. Part of what makes the Triton Series so special is that it’s open to a wide range of individuals - not just a select few. They envisioned Triton as a series of poker events providing excellent entertainment value for audiences passionate about poker. Some of the most famous poker players to have appeared at Triton events have been Phil Ivey ‘RaiseOnce’, Tom Dwan ‘Durrr’, Patrick Antonius ‘The Finn’, Michael Addamo ‘imluckbox’, Chris Brewer, Jason Koon, Tony G, Dan Cates ‘Jungleman’, Doug Polk ‘WCGRider’, Stephen Chidwick ‘stevie444’, Linus Loeliger ‘LLinusLLove’, Isaac Haxton ‘philivey2694’, Mikita Badziakouski ‘fish2013’, Timofey Kuznetsov ‘Trueteller’ and many more.
The Triton Monte Carlo Series was held at the Monte-Carlo Sporting / Salle Des Étoiles, and it had 13 poker tournaments with buy-ins from $25,000 up to $200,000 in NLHE and PLO.
Triton - $40,000 Mystery Bounty Results
    1st: Mario Mosböck - Austria - $718,000
    2nd: Imad Derwiche - France - $484,000
    3rd: Michael Soyza - Malaysia - $333,000
    4th: Steve O'Dwyer - Ireland - $272,000
    5th: Axel Hallay - France - $216,500
    6th: Viacheslav Buldygin - Russia - $166,300
    🔍 Pre-Flop Action:
The blinds are 10,000/15,000 as it folds around to Phil Ivey in the small blind. He looks down at 72o - the worst hand in poker! This doesn’t faze the 10-time WSOP bracelet winner as he decides to complete the big blind. In the big blind is Jans Arends who looks down at 97o and is content to check his option and head to the flop.
    💸 Flop - 9h 7h 2s
The flop is cruel for Ivey, as he flops bottom two pair against the top two pair of Arends on this draw-heavy board. Ivey starts with a check before Arends throws in 25,000 chips for a bet of just over half-pot. Ivey now check-raises to 85,000 to which Arends calls as they head to the turn.
    💣 Turn - 4d
The turn brings the 4 of diamonds, a total brick that doesn't complete any flush or straight draws. But how will Ivey navigate this turn, will he be suspicious of Arends’ call on the flop and check, or will he continue with his aggression from the flop? You will have to watch this poker video to find out!

Key to longevity is finding something to relax your mind so when you get coolered or sucked out on, you maintain your composure and keep on. If you can train your mind (and have a big enough of a bank roll) to be numb to losses, you can keep going longer without getting burned out.

Key is extreme discipline. With that you will handle your bankroll and all other facets of poker. Discipline means leave your ego out, stop bad beat rehearsal, pick games that you enjoy and stay on it. Downswings will happen, again discipline will allow you to take a break from the table over a day or weeks.

Exactly!! If you love the game then most definitely you’ll stick to it out in the long run. The only thing I cannot imagine is to keep losing millions or even hundreds of thousands in a cash game or in a tournament then having the fortitude to keep coming back the next day..quite certain that happened to longtimers Phil Ivey a few times and a few more times with Patrik Antonius as to his admission in one of his vlogs. Love your vlog by the way!!♥️

The biggest key to longevity in poker is to only play within your bankroll. Too many people win big and then lose it all and even more when the move up in stakes without enough bankroll behind. Just because you profited a few thousand playing 5/10 doesn’t mean you’re ready to now go and play 25/50.

It's wild how many people you see come and go when you play poker at the same places long term. It's usually a month of the person being happy, fist bumping etc....and a month. 2 months later....they're just miserable and the inevitably you don't see them anymore

Results oriented thinking and overreaction. Phil Ivey would limp again preflop in this spot. He'd do this line a million times over after flopping two pair and turn a brick. Sometimes it's your time to lose and that's OK.
