What goes around comes back..... I used this exact set up in Vietnam and Panama during my active service. Used smaller, more flexible stretchers though. When up and over my hammock I could drape my mosquito net and had a good nights sleep even when it rained. Ahhh, the memories
Brother Lars we must have some shared brainwaves. I just released a video 8 hours ago showing a no guyline tarp with an Eno hammock! What are the chances of that ever happening! I definitely like your set up
Looks good Lars. Growing up down in south Florida, I did a lot of camping with a military surplus jungle hammock (Hammock, fly, mosquito net all a single unit.), which, I found, as you would say, quite awesome. Up here in Alaska I pretty much tent came or saiwash it.
Hallo Lars, super Aufbau mit dem Tarp! Like it! Ich werde das gleich morgen ausprobieren, BASHA und Hängematte hab ich. Danke für´s zeigen. Gruß Torsten
I first saw this back in 85/86. Ex FFL pal said it kept you off the floor in Guyana training but not used tactically. Works great but needs tethered in windy conditions or it swings about like a bell. Good to see rope still being "daisy chained", my hammock hangs with them. Good vid, thanks.
My ENO hammock stretched ALOT the first night I used it. I work up on the rocks at 2am in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota. Re-tightened and watched an awesome full moon. :)
I could never live that north because of the insects.. After al these years i still hear: Get on a train and do something awesome. But i do like the tarp setup. :)) Cheers Lars.
Setup actually looks comfy. Warmer times of year it's great to be outdoors while in the outdoors or flaps open to have the lovely outdoor air. When I did camp often and regularly the best investment I made was in the mosquito net shell for hammock or ground. Sigh, I slept so so so so good outdoors while protected from things that bite. Fresh air, quiet but for forest animals, more sighs, best sleep of my whole life.
My tree straps are constructed like your jungle rope, a series of knots in 2 lengths of cord, makes adjusting the hang fast and easy. I do like the flying tarp set up and will give it a try, I can guarantee I will hit my head on the sticks at some point, probably getting out to pee in the middle of the night.
I absolutely love that so simple and obvious (when someone else thinks of it for you) idea about the toggle inside the knot! I also just bought a super similar hammock, which is probably the same, but with a Hurley label. Got it more for camp lounging, but who knows, maybe I’ll sleep in it. How was your sleep? Oh, and I guess the mat would be important in summer, if for no other reason that the mosquitos wouldn’t be able to sting your butt! 😀
@Lars For the Eno hammocks the "suspension system" straps come in a second pouch, so either they were not included, or possibly left at home. Either way you've obviously made a good solution with what you have, so no big deal. I forgot about your previous video showing this tarp set up, definitely saving this one so that I don't forget again, seems very handy.
Once I found the hammock I never went back to sleeping on the ground.. Very cool.. looks like my old camps in the woods back in the days when I used to hump all over the mountains in the state of Oregon.. though I use the old net hammocks that were popular back in the last century.. Thanks Lars this was great.. especially the little trick with the stick in the knot..
@@grey8940 Yeah that is what I thought.. and I love sleeping out under the stars in the summer.. to wake up in a hammock at 3 in the morning to look up and see the whole universe spread out in front of you.. those are memories that I will take to the grave with me.. To true beauty and peace my brother! carry on.
I have even used the free end of the cordage as a toggle on certain knots. Love the flying tarp idea. In non tactical area I would go for more head room with out ducking under. Awesome.
I have a couple of those hammocks--there are webbing 'hammock straps' that work great. The hammock is way stronger than it looks like, but not super comfortable, though I'm not a big hammock person, admittedly. Love toggle in the knot, and flying shelter!
Yep, we can tell you're not a hammock camper 😉, but that's OK. I always enjoy your videos which are always informative. Thanks for putting out another interesting video. Keep em coming.
If you have a 30 degree angle on your hammock and a double wide hammock, which I believe you have, then if you turn your body 45 degrees you will lie flat and your back will not hurt in the morning. Also, if you have a double layer hammock and you place your sleeping pad between layers and your sleeping pad will not slide on you. There are plenty of videos on RUclips videos on the perfect hammock hang. Also, if you take your your Fjallduken hunter and tie the ends around your hammock so that it stops the air flow from the ends and it hangs loosely so that it does not touch the hammock and the hunter does not touch when get in the hammock it will keep you from getting cold from the underneath.
for the ridge line i use a simple truckers hitch i can pull 500 para cord with a hitch i never seen done with the knots i like it i will make one them for my pack
Love the FFL tarp setup, since i saw it on your first video i have used it many times. I tried it with a hammock but am definitely a ground-sleeper. It's fine for an afternoon nap though
I tried an Eno hammock and felt the same misgivings about it's strength. So I made a hammock. i would recommend it, it is easy and you can make it how you want. You want to use heavy duty upholsterers thread and a number 16 needle if you make it out of canvas like I did. Anyway, if you make them a good three feet longer than yourself, and a bit extra wide, you can lay in them corner to corner, and this lets you sleep somewhat flat, which is more comfortable, and on your side if you prefer. Also canvas keeps the creepy crawlies away. I went over the outside of mine with watered down acrylic paint...I admit in somewhat hippy colors...so I had it water proof on the outside, but still soft on the inside, and that also kept the cold and wind out. This was very comfortable in cold nights. With a sleeping bag, I slept like in a womb. That tarp is cool, but with a hammock, you want it to go corner to corner and it will cover. You kind of have to tie down to the ground. Those clamps make a big difference for dealing with the rain if you attach them so the D side is facing down. Seriously. The rain can drip down the tree and flood all over you, but if you have those clamps aiming down, the water follows the downward arc of the D and drips down to the ground. I don't have them, so I got lengths of nylon and tied them on each end like fringes, and that works to guide water away and down to the ground.
i have a cheap amazon tarp tent i use the same way i stretch it pretty tight for 50 bucks its hard to beat i use it over my tent in somer and as a open front tent in winter works good light weight
ENO sells the suspension separately from their hammocks, ratchet tie down straps work well in a pinch…. That paracord sounded like it was most unhappy 🤣 With a 3MX3M tarp you need to hang them corner to corner to cover a hammock unfortunately. I use the ENO Jungle nest or the Camo nest with the ENO housefly rain tarp or my aqua quest defender tarp when I’m out, they do make for a lite weight sleeping system that gets you off the ground BUT they are COLD and require a lot of testing various setups and insulation before you just run into the woods and go camping. A Marlin 1894 in .44 Magnum tucked in beside me has yet to rip any holes in my hammocks 😏
The cold is why I use canvas. Just a suggestion about the cold: I discovered making an under hang of the tarp that you sling over the hammock. take one side of that tarp and zing in under the hammock and up the other side, like a little envelope and it keeps the wind out.
@@Hollylivengood Good idea… I actually use a snugpack hammock cocoon and a lite weight down filled quilt for on top and I’m cozy down to a little below freezing… after that point I just bring a hot tent and a wood stove with my lite weight cot and I’m super comfy. I really don’t care for sleeping on the ground anymore unless I have to… too old n fat for that none sense if it can be avoided 😁👍
You're alive lol, I thought the Siberian big foot had got you. Nice setup Lars, not sure about the hammock, I think for large guys over 6ft 2, it sucks being in one, I feel like my arse is going to crash down every time I turn over and try to get comfy.
It was nice of the viewer to send you a hammock but wow, WAY too small. I’ve used a tarp/hammock for over 20 years but yeah, you have to find the right combination and set up. Looked awesome like always.
10:38 Keep in mind that since there are two ends holding up your weight they each take half the load. So if each is rated for 400lbs it will take 800lbs on the hammock to break them.
Usually "bear burrito " people setup the tarp at the corner to make sure the hammock is covered 😉. This Louisiana swamp Cajun wouldn't mind hanging out in the Russian woods with you,Judging from the pants & jacket the temperature is much more pleasant than Louisiana 115 degrees today 80% humidity
Awesome stuff as always Lars :) I tried one of these type of hammocks, but I'm not a big fan of them. Mainly because they feel too flimsy for my liking. I need to get my hands on a Basha though. They seem very nice. Stövla på! :D

Went out the other night in my hammock setup and was awoken by one pissed off deer...it was still around when I finally got up in the morning and actually stood its ground and made some grunts at me. Never had a deer act like that before. I thought it was something else staking me all night at first before I spotted it. I thought a human or a bear maybe. Just this angry deer. Must have been right in its path or something. It was a female, too...fairly young. Weird.
@@moparmarkstpac Not entirely sure, honestly. It didn't try to attack or anything, just seemed agitated and angry vs the typical to dart away. I was there overnight taking up minimal space, if there was a fawn there were loads of ways around me. It looked fine and healthy. I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I'll probably be camping down there again in the next week or two and I will see if there are any signs of it...maybe set up a trail cam for when I'm sleeping.
