Keeper!! I’ve been happily married 27 years. And I was about to order a black metal sign with that exact quote in an old fashioned cursive, scriptural type font to hang above a framed, matted painting of an old man & woman holding hands overlooking their property from a hillside (it’s a beautiful print from a local deceased artist). And it’ll work beautifully with a timeless look in my primitive, old fashioned style home. When I consider tacky word signs, I think of Eat, Pray, Love, or the tacky canvases with phrases like “Keep calm & carry on”. 😂
I think your place is very calming and beautiful and it shows your “authentic self and vibe “ I guess for me my authentic self needs some things to be visible or I forget it’s there! Especially in the kitchen. It’s organized but accessible. The word “Tacky” is usually used for low quality , garish, or poor taste….with that being said I think one person’s tacky is another person’s treasure.
I have reduced so many trinkets, I have reduced so many pictures, and have lots more room in drawers and closet space. My biggest challenge right now is finding the proper shoes for multiple occasions. I have reduced my digital, social media, and clothing to just what is needed and enjoying the space. Great points ...
I think overall with decorating my home over the last 3 years, the biggest thing I learned is not worrying about quickly buying decorations/ furniture just because the space it empty. I took the pressure off of having to suddenly have a complete home with all the things just because I have a house. When we first moved in, it was pretty bare with just the basics to live but I just slowly added things that felt right in the moment over several months even years and let the process grow very gradually. Just like when thinking long and hard about a purchase with clothing or materialistic things, I think taking the same consideration when designing your home will pay off in 10 folds. I till have areas of my home that I feel could have more design and function but I don’t try to force it and that’s been key for less consumption. Taking more time and thought has ultimately created more meaningful spaces for me. I also agree with trying to buy better quality things and I include furniture as well. You just can’t beat quality when it comes to good furniture. It can last you decades with the right pieces
It’s nice to see that Easy Plant sells the plants together with the pots. I have 3 fake plants that I place slightly behind some other object. 😉😂 Making a space feel comfortable/welcoming is also important.
I agree wholeheartedly with your list, with this caveat. Your #10 point about being true to yourself is the most important. Your home should reflect who you are, and not be a mindless cookie cutter of what’s “on trend.” I hate kitschy word art, but I have a friend who painted an incredible representation with the “Love” scripture that means so much to me on many levels. It’s matted and framed beautifully and I’ve had it proudly displayed for over 20 years and it still makes me so happy.
Loved this list. We travel too much for me to be able to keep most plants alive so I have a Christmas cactus and an aloe but the rest are fake. I think all the plants in your house are gorgeous and I love seeing them when I watch your videos. As far as #9-not storing things where they are visible. That tells me you are either a cricket or ladybug for your clutterbug. If you want to learn more about clutterbugs there is a quiz you can take. I’m a cricket so I agree, but I have plenty of friends who need to store their things where they can see them and some of them organize it beautifully but it definitely takes being intentional for it to look good.
Good for you for decorating the way you like! Trends come and go but if you figure out your own personal style an do what you love then your being true to your authentic self!♥️
How your home is styled (in accordance with your needs and lifestyle)is actually one of the most important things in your life because it affects you mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually.
Word signs are the worst. I wish this trend would go already. Also phrases on mugs, etc. How many times must we see "It's Fall, Y'all" or "Gather." Gah. The ultimate in tackiness. Also painting everything white and then running sandpaper over it to make it look "distressed." Gah. Also painting over nice wood. I hate these things.
I got rid of all the plastic in my house! So much better not looking at Sterlite drawers. I also have a couple of real plants that I love. I love your home. It feels cozy and welcoming.
What is the gorgeous trailing plant on your bookshelf please? Also, I agree with most of your points. Especially fake plants, word signs and plastic. Ugh!
I think your space looks lovely. I don't think the fact that it doesn't have many colours is a bad thing. Maybe just add more textures, in the same tones, to add a bit more layers and interest.
OMG this is hilarious because when I listened to nr.1 I was like ”I have a fake plant in my guest bathroom” and what was number 2 on your list?! 😅😂 We don’t have a window in our guest bathroom but I really wanted a ”plant” in there, I’m actually really pleased with how it look. Natural materials are the best though 😉
I happily have a couple of fake plants in my basement & they actually look great, my real plants are in my living room where the light is best & I spend the most time. I also dont have a ton of color, nor trinkets. I used to accumulate things on my travels for my home, I no longer do as it gets to be too much.
LOL!!!! I cant stand word signs either and have always thought why in the world would you put that on a wall.... Your home is very pretty, I do love your aesthetic
I agree about the tackiness of word signs- they are signs not art. But I also acknowledge that what is not pleasing for some, is for others- so if you like word signs, go for it.
Just checked out your "10 Things That Make a Home Look Tacky" article - fantastic insights! By the way, I sent you an email sharing some thoughts. Looking forward to hearing your take on it!
Am I the only one who cringes when they go in someone's home & they have a big picture on the wall that says, "In this family we respect each other, laugh together, support each other, help with chores, hug each other, etc, etc, etc"? Have you seen those? I always feel like they're trying too hard to appear to be that perfect family and making sure everyone knows it. I really dislike that kind of word art. I think you should just be that kind of family; not advertise it.
If only I had as much time as you have to waste on meaningless tacky thinking about how to make a home Unauthentic 😂😂 and how to waste time keeping plants which belong outdoors, alive indoors. Nothing better than a fake orchid or 2 or 3 all year round. And huge golden yellow fake sunflowers in blue and white fake Chinese vases, and a brightly crocheted granny square rug over the back of your couch. And a striped Indian rag rug at your feet. Family rules list in bold writing on chipboard on your wall, beside a huge printed bucket list of places left to go. All great living hacks you too should try sometime.
I'm surprised you are here since you don't seem to like her opinions. Hopefully you have moved on to find someone who advocates for tacky decor such as yours.

My word sign a gift from my husband “I still remember the days I prayed for what I have now “:we have been married happily for 40 years now.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
That's beautiful. Definitely an exception to the rule!
Yes! That's pretty meaningful!

I’m going to suggest a cute basket for your puppy toys to replace the plastic bin❤

yes!! agree
also over-crowded seasonal decor. it's fun to nod at a season or holiday, but sometimes fewer things seem more meaningful
JS… the footage you share of your home is always beautiful. Tacky NEVER!!! I love your style and it’s always so clean looking, classic and timeless.

I’m with you on light, I love sunshine popping of the wall. It makes me happy. Love your plants, and I enjoyed your video

😂 this was exactly my thought as well. Gotta love Cas and her beautiful transformations for all clutterbug styles (I’m a cricket too)
My guess is that Elin is a ladybug 😊
The uncomfortable couch is so true!
Your skin and makeup looks so amazing!
I think being true to yourself really helps. It’s easy to pick up on the latest trends.
Good for you for decorating the way you like! Trends come and go but if you figure out your own personal style an do what you love then your being true to your authentic self!♥️

I think tacky might be better said dated and sound less judgy but I agree to all your points!!!! Xo
You are spot on with this list!
I love your style and the prevalence of white, so fresh and bright.
I'm totally with you on signs inside the house. Grrrr! They make me crazy to see them. Such a distraction.
Live, laugh, love signs get on my nerves. That's a trend I could never embrace. I love your light and airy decor. So restful ❤
I feel the same way. When I see them I feel myself wanting to say “quit telling me how think and do “ 🤣
I also have white walls and furniture and I add cute coloured throws, pillows, decor, plants, etc to bring back the colour.
Colour brings coziness
You are always so thoughtful. Thank you for this

THE WORST!!!
I loved the tip on the colours :) Never heard that before!
I got rid of all the plastic in my house! So much better not looking at Sterlite drawers. I also have a couple of real plants that I love. I love your home. It feels cozy and welcoming.
Ha, tried doing that but nothing holds toys quite as well as sterilite containers. So back to that

If there's no light, a fake plant looks better than a dead plant! 😄
I think that plastic plants end up looking dated quickly and are a pain to clean, but I love them! only small ones though 😂

I agree with all of your assessments, and pretty much follow them all myself.
Great tips! I hate word signs!
LOL!!!! I cant stand word signs either and have always thought why in the world would you put that on a wall.... Your home is very pretty, I do love your aesthetic
All good advice. I never understood the appeal of plastic plants or wax fruit. They're a complete waste of space.
I agree about the tackiness of word signs- they are signs not art. But I also acknowledge that what is not pleasing for some, is for others- so if you like word signs, go for it.

I agree with this list, especially fake plants, matchy matchy decor and not being true to yourself.
Eclectic is great
Oh my goodness, I agree with everything.
Wow hank you! I despise word signs just seems empty I mean really, love coffee?
Good video
Please tell me what’s tacky. I am not easily offended. Sometimes we get stuck in our bubbles and it’s nice to have an objective fresh perspective.
Sometimes people just like word signs. Doesn’t mean they didn’t know what to slap on the wall

😊😊😊
Curious on your take of fake Christmas trees
They aren't year round so thats kind of a different animal.
You have Ikea cheap style, nothing old, inherited
Take the sticker off the dog toy bin please
Your cords hanging behind your credenza need to be hidden❤❤❤❤
I don‘t like plants inside, replace them by art
Plants in houses are awful, much work and dirt.
Realy awful😂

I think you're on the wrong RUclips Chanel. You were looking for the Pioneer Woman.

Clearly you do have extra time on your hands or you wouldn't be able to troll.
