Here's the Missing part of the backstory (from journey to the west) : The bull king and wukong were sworn brothers when they rose against the heavens. Their uprising failed and wukong was captured and tortured in the flames of a cauldron used to cultivate elixirs. Eventually, wukong managed to escape and the flames from the cauldron over spilled into the mortal world, lighting a mountain range on fire. This is the famous origin of the flaming mountain. The bull king, on the other hand, was forced to give up his wife to heavenly deities who impregnated her with magic water from a river of fertility. They did this because they wanted to breed a nearly extinct species, the yasha, of which she was the sole survivor. This child eventually became the red child, and was taken away by the Buddhist forces when he tried to eat the tang monk, when tang monk, wukong, bajie and his 3rd disciple sand monk arrived at the flaming mountain on their journey to the west. To cross the flaming mountains, wukong needed a special relic, the bajiao fan by the bull kings wife, to fan away the flames. She however was reluctant to lend him the relic, seeing wukong as the source of her misery at being forced to give birth by the gods and the captivity of her son. When wukong tried to take it by force, she fled to the bull king, whom she was estranged from as he took on a concubine (fox guai), during the time she was gone. The bull king was enraged by his wife and son being bullied, so he refused to cooperate. Wukong had to call upon the forces of heaven to help him in the battle against the bull and his army of yaoguai. Thus you get to this scene where the bull king was subdued by his former sworn brother and got decapitated by nezha, a heavenly general. Through some mystic mumbo jumbo, heaven managed to revive him and he later took part in the final battle against wukong. It was hinted that he played the role of a betrayer where he turned on his brother at the last moment, leading to wukong defeat. However wukong still viewed the bull king as his misguided elder brother all along, hence his last words at the end to not try to claim the power of his remains, as he was secretly scheming with erlang God to die and get a successor to reclaim all his powers and memories without being shackled by the cursed ring on his forehead that forced him to bow to the will of the gods.

The Bull King memories could be explained as: “Wretched Bull, Ill luck plagues your every step, never have you made a good choice.” - The bull king has made 3 poor choices in the story. First was when he followed Sun Wukong to due against the Celestial Court. Their defeat resulted in his wife - Princess Iron fan - forced to drink the water from the River of Childbearing, gave birth to Red Son. The Celestial Court wanted to have her power, as she was “ancestor of the wind gods who was entrusted by the heavenly court” (this part could be explained better), and their son - Red Son - later was forced to be controlled under the Celestial Court, which explained why he was so upset with his father. Second was when he - similar to the other yaoguais - was used as stepping stones for Sun Wukong’s Journey. This resulted in the fall of his family, as his son got beaten, his wife’s fan taken, and his beloved Princess Jade Countenance got killed by Bajie. In rage and painful of his lost, he went against the Celestial Court, and almost got killed in the scene. Third was when Sun Wukong decided to fight against the Celestial Court the second time, as they threatened to execute his entire place. The Bull King was with the Celestial Court, turned agaist his brother, just to get his brother’s body - as 1 of the 5 relics, and realized the damned truth: “For someone like me, staying alive is enough to be a transgression.” The video could be further explained, this comment just gives a brief information of what might happened in the story.
@@ada0015the first two choices were in the “Journey to the west” The Bull King alway side by side with his brother, even he was angry, he only fight gods, not his brother Wukong
The Bull Demon King is a very tragic character. He followed Wukong to attack Heaven, but failed. In order to protect his friends, Wukong chose to obey the arrangement, and this is how the story of Journey to the West began. The Bull Demon King didn't understand Wukong at first. It wasn't until he was about to die that he realized that his choices in life were all wrong.
The story of Black Myth Wukong takes place after Sun Wukong has completed his journey to the west and become The Buddha of Victorious Fighting (that's why Wukong said "my master (Tang monk) is safe and the scriptures (sutra) are safe." You can see this at the beginning of the game intro when Wukong fights the god Erlang and the heavenly army who want to take Wukong to the celestial court. The reason why the sky wants to take Wukong to court is because Wukong doesn't want to live as a Buddha/bound by rules, he just wants to return to the mountain where he lives with his people and live freely and peacefully. However, the heavens do not immediately believe Wukong and instead kill Wukong's people. This is where the conflict begins. So Wukong goes against the sky again. After you finish the fight with the god Erlang at the beginning of the game you will be shown that they fall into the mountain and Wukong turns to stone, but that's not what happens because after falling they are still fighting Wukong, Erlang is assisted by several demons, one of which is a buffalo demon, you can see This incident after you defeat the red boy in chapter 5, in the animated cutscene of chapter 5 it is explained that they fought a great war. This caused Wukong to die, before he died Wukong showed the future to the buffalo demon why he did not want to submit to the rules of heaven, namely if he continued to submit to heaven he would cause the buffalo demon to be killed by heaven. This once again confirms that Wukong is really fed up with the rules of heaven because all creatures cannot have free will, especially demons. yes this game is actually about brotherhood. To revive Wukong, we as players must find and bring the 6 relics to Mount Huaguo, this is according to what The Old Monkey said at the beginning of the game which said that the relics are Wukong's 6 senses, namely, Eyes, Ears, Nose, tongue, body and mind. The 6 relics are held by 6 people, 5 of whom are the ones who defeated Wukong in the cutscene of chapter 5 and they are the main bosses on our journey as the destined one and we must defeat them to get the relics. The 6 people who hold the relics are: Black Bear (boss in chapter 1) who holds the eye relic, Yellow Rat (main boss chapter 2) who holds the ear relic, Yellowbrow (main boss chapter 3) who holds the nose relic, Hundred-Eyed or centipede demon (main boss chapter 4) who holds the tongue relic, Buffalo demon in chapter 5 who holds the body relic, and the last is Erlang who keeps the mind/memory Relic in his third eye. The relics are distributed to the 5 people by the God Erlang. and just so you know if we watch the cutscene after defeating Erlang we can hear that Wukong's death and the distribution of the relics by the God Erlang is Wukong's ploy to put a spell on Erlang's third eye without Erlang knowing. He did this so that Wukong could be free from his body which was still sealed by his headband as we saw in the game intro. This is also reinforced in the final cutscene of the game which shows Wukong fighting Erlang and saying "keep your eyes wide open then I will tear them and be free" Wukong is indeed clever. There are 2 endings in this game, the first bad ending in this ending most players do not do the sidequest so they do not know that they must defeat the Erlang God first so that the 6th relic is obtained, so when the relic is not obtained then Wukong will not be reborn. and the second is a good ending where the player does the sidequest and defeats the Erlang God and gets the last Relic so that Wukong can rise again and not be constrained by his headband.
Mostly correct except the part about Erlang not knowing about the relic. Erlang is also part of the ploy, he knew Wukong wants to be free and went along with the plan. In the final boss fight he mentioned Wukong cannot be killed, not even by him, so he knew its a plan. Also the whole fight with him and the 4 heavenly kings is a test by him to see if the chosen one (the player) is worthy to inherit Wukong's mind and soul. Finally in the final cutscene with him he mentioned 'he is finally at peace' knowing he can handover the relic to the chosen one
The explanation from what I gathered is this: The Wu Kong in the opening sequence of the game wasn't sealed and his essence wasn't scattered into six relics. The opening sequence was more a tale than a piece of Wukong's memory to mislead the player. What really happened was partly told in this memory scene. Erlang killed Wu Kong and divided the relics among the 5 beings, with the mind relic being the only one missing. Later on as we go to face Erlang to gain the true ending, he doesn't seem to be burdened too much by losing. If you study Erlang's story from the legend, you would realize that his relationship with the court is as complicated as wu kong. Now in the animated sequence of the true ending that triggers after we defeat the stone wukong and the elder monkey is about to put the golden circlet on our head, we see Wukong's memories playing out in reversed order, the very first one is his battle against Erlang (which should be right before his death), in which he proclaims that he will show him how he would break free from the circlet. Perhaps Erlang knows this. And killing him is more an act of mercy that he knows would break him free from the shackles of the court, and which shall be completed by his reincarnation. A final act of defiance.
Wukong's memories played out the correct order, his memories before his supposed "death" was up until he gives a toast to all his dead friends and to one of his sworn brothers the bull king who had joined the heavenly army to defeat wukong... Only the 1st scene in the animated scene showed what really happened when he and erlang conspired to his "death" The scene where Wukong with the body of the destined one fought Nezha and Erlang is depicted to him winning that fight
@@raffielj no it's not. Right after the erlang battle scene is the scene where he was granted buddhahood after successfully getting the sutras with Tang Sanzang. Later on in the scene we can see Wu Kong writing his name and pissing on the mountain of five fingers, not knowing it was Buddha's palm. And that was before he met Tang Sanzang. The feast/cheer scene are not with death people, but when he was forging the sworn brothers pact with several powerful yaoguai kings (I think the bull counts among them). So it's definitely in reversed order.
@@jeremychristian5409 but the last scene of the anime was him giving a toast to his friends because they're already dead... In the 1st scene he was defeated by erlang shen then he also remembered his unsealing and the whole joirney
@@raffielj yeah, but there's no indication of the toast with the dead taking place after everything else. All of the other parts of the cutscenes are more consistent with it going backward. Wu Kong has gone off against the imperial court multiple times throughout his lore, so it's easier to imagine this as taking place before everything. Especially since he still wore his early days monkey king armor.
Does anyone mention about relics’ names ? Craving Eyes, Fuming Ears, Hubris Nose, Envious Tongue, Grieved Body, Freed Mind. They are not only Wukong body parts, they are our ego, too. We use eyes to seek for what we want to see, ears to listen what we hear others talk about us, our nose turn red when others cheering us, and tounge help to pick food we want to eat. We throw away all others ideas, others taste, eventhought they are true about us or good for us
Only after this cutscene I started to realize that the story was being told with some "lacks", and the beginning of the game wasn't what I thought. Also, this cutscene, soundtrack and animation is CINEMA!
So the scene of wukong dying is after the cutscene at the start of the game, when they crash on the mountain, that’s where the figth begins with bull king and where he dies? I have so many questions
The one in the beginning, and the one in the animated cutscene, is the original Son Wukong, the Great Sage that Equal Heaven, the monkey that made the journey to the West. The game begins after the quest, and after Wukong was granted the title of The Victorious Fighting Buddha. But, as OP explains, Wukong understood now that the Heavenly Court will never let the life of Yaoguai like him and The Bull King live their in peace, so Wukong asked Erlang Shen (dude with the black dog we fight in the opening) to kill him and relief him from Heaven control. We (The Destined One), are just a no-name monkey from the Mountain of Flower and Fruit (Mount Huaguo)
@@who-dendanjyerasu3342 1. This is story telling, the story reveals more details the more we play. From this cutscene, it is clear that Erlang and the Court couldn't defeat Wukong (I mean, when Wukong wasn't even Buddha, they failed miserably already) so this time to kill him, they asked the Yaoguai to help, and among the demons that assist Heaven was the Bull King. That is why Erlang agrees to give the Bull King one of Wukong relics as a reward. 2. If you read the lore enough, you'd know that the Elder Monkey at the beginning of the game was an agent of the Heavenly Court, so he lied to the Destined One (the player) and hid many details about the fight, even at the end of the game, the Elder was waiting to force the Destine One into service of the Heaven by putting the Golden Headband on him. This cutscene shows what really happened that day: The Heaven cheated and summoned monsters to fight on their side.
I feel truly heartbroken for The Monkey King Sun Wukong all he ever wanted was to be free and live a life of freedom and cherish the world much more than anybody else in the gods cannot just let go they couldn't accept the fact that he was something more powerful than 🥺🥺😭😭💔💔💔 rest in peace old monkey king 👑 Sun wukong
2 Questions. 1. How did Wukong die if he was not only so strong but had so many different forms of immortality? 2. Why did Wukong tell the Bull King to steer clear of his remains?
Wukong sacrifice himself so he could be reborn into new being free from the golden headband that shackles him, even Erlang said no one could kill him but Wukong himself. it's a very meticulous plan from Wukong to fool heaven for time being.
For the second question, wukong was split into 6 seperate relics and everyone who helped kill him aka the main chapter bosses in the game got a piece of him to make themselves stronger but they would end up being killed by us the mc to become wukong so wukong was basically warning the bull king to stay away from those relics so he doesent have to die when the mc in the future comes to get them. Which I find beautiful seeing how even with the bull king going out to help kill wukong, wukong still wanting him to live on happily
Wukong is not invincible. There were many Yao guai's who can beat him in the novel, especially the ones under Buddha and bodhisattvas. The old novel was a story promoting Buddhism.
@yuhanzhang2882 Wrong. No Yaoguai can defeat Wukong in the original novel. They often rely on celestial artifacts to match or temporarily overpower him, but ultimately, Wukong always prevails. Only deities are capable of subduing him, though none can kill him.
wukong was trying to take away bull's threat to celestial court, hope it could ensure the family's safety. bajie on the other hand, didn't know any of wukong's plan, just bragging about his doing.
Wukong is crafty MF and secretly trying to disarm Bull king to save him from celestial courts plan to eradicate his kind. Bajie however, is that much of an asshole in OG novel.
Still dont get on the part. Buddha means you escape from samsara wheel, and dont reincarnated too If wukong can escape from samsara, how could he still bounded with celestial court? Even jade emperor himself cant run from samsara
You'll notice his means of resurection are not exactly usual; he killed himself and can be reborn if anyone gets all the relics. Also the court slaughtered his people, so he still had to deal with them
As far as I understand he didn’t die, his being was just split into multiple pieces. But he let it happen to him as part of a plan to get rid of Heaven’s control over him
@@empty3696 Well in the game they clearly say that he died. Even at the end they say that he died but kinda lives on. So somehow he died physically bu lives on in spirit alone. When you speak to the mind of Wukong. It says "The Wukong you know is dead, But he lives on in his heir" or something like that. Its so darn confusing. But i guess thats what you get when you play around with immortality 7 times.
He somehow "killed" himself. He died as his "mind" has gone. There's no longer Wukong. Only His power, immortality and ability still lingers on as relics around the world. The destined one is supposed to take Wukong's name. His memories of Wukong is in Erlang third eyes and without it, The destined one wont be able to be the new Wukong
@@Saintedlight no he is immortal until he wants to kill himself. When he did he eventually reincarnated as the destined one. He created a way for his memories to be passed on in which he basically just revived himself in the secret ending. So technically his spirit, personality, and name are immortal but his memories are vulnerable to death if he kills himself.
To understand the relationship of Wukong and the Bull king: if you are a fan of WWE, you can think of Wukong is Triple H, and Bull King is Shawn Michaels. They were DX team when they were shoulder by shoulder against the heaven. Then during the journey to the west, Wukong joined the new gang. You can think that gang is the "Evolution" !
A reincarnation of him thats why the keep calling him destined one and when you get all 6 relics in game The mc/you will get all of wukong memories and abilities making wukong reborn into the destined one

And he still chose port as he kept one of his relics which eventually led to the death of his son..

Damn this really hit heart 3:53 . once sworn brothers turned against each other in a twisted fate
Seeing Ao Bing and Nezha make brief appearances in this cutscene was a huge fangirl moment for me
Fk Nezha
Ne zha i saw but Which one is Ao Bing?

So the scene of wukong dying is after the cutscene at the start of the game, when they crash on the mountain, that’s where the figth begins with bull king and where he dies? I have so many questions
The part with the bull in the uprising against heaven is a flashback to Journey to the West, otherwise you are correct
This dude about to go kratos on the whole Chinese mythology
-This Wukong
- Opening Wukong
- Wukong whe play
Who the one was Original?
@@thanhtuanoan1409 but Wukong in cutscene already death before in theopening
@@who-dendanjyerasu3342
Reincarnated.I think.
The song is Black Myth Wukong OST - Destiny .
Because monkey king was under control of Buda. He needed to die to have that headband removed. Monkey is eternal and something like phoenix.
@yuhanzhang2882 Wrong. No Yaoguai can defeat Wukong in the original novel. They often rely on celestial artifacts to match or temporarily overpower him, but ultimately, Wukong always prevails. Only deities are capable of subduing him, though none can kill him.
I still dont get it, why was wukong (and bajie, especially him) portrayed as kind of evil ? like 3:50 - 4:36 here?
It's part of the story from Journey to the West where they need to put out mountain of fire to continue the journey
wukong was trying to take away bull's threat to celestial court, hope it could ensure the family's safety. bajie on the other hand, didn't know any of wukong's plan, just bragging about his doing.
@@christensoncao1080 so bajie actually is a piece of shit who laughs at you while bragging about killing your friend, thanks good to know
Bc this is not a western fairy tail
There is no good or evil
Wukong is crafty MF and secretly trying to disarm Bull king to save him from celestial courts plan to eradicate his kind.
Bajie however, is that much of an asshole in OG novel.
This game can really catch you in your feelings jesus what a game
😢
This scene was sad af man
They better have a dlc wukong raiding the celistial palace
Game is goated asf
Didn't know you could do that with the scroll
Where is the explained in the comments u said in the title
I have made a comment that tried to explain what happened in the cutscene, feel free to have a look if you want.
I don't know much about Wukong in general, but how the hell do you die if you have immortality. Makes no sense.
Like in the sense that you don't die of old age.
@@HsdudbdDhdudhdu he literally scratched his name from the book of death, do you not know the lore?
It's poorly explained. He dies solely to nerf the character because playing as a character who can't die in a boss driven game would be boring.
He kill himself to free from the headband
That's the plot twist.
Wukong actually 'killed' himself and Erlang is complicit.
Game Journalist: Black Myth Wukong is sexist.
Black Myth Wukong: For someone like me, just by existing is enough to be a transgression.
Movie name
Still dont get on the part. Buddha means you escape from samsara wheel, and dont reincarnated too
If wukong can escape from samsara, how could he still bounded with celestial court?
Even jade emperor himself cant run from samsara
You'll notice his means of resurection are not exactly usual; he killed himself and can be reborn if anyone gets all the relics. Also the court slaughtered his people, so he still had to deal with them
is that movie?
Can anyone explain how a 7 times immortal being that removed his name from the Book of life and death ended up dying?
@@jontuxen2724 So in other words. only his "power" is immortal. So hes not 7 times immortal, His powers are.
Sun Wukong did not die
He did he can make himself mortal
To understand the relationship of Wukong and the Bull king: if you are a fan of WWE, you can think of Wukong is Triple H, and Bull King is Shawn Michaels. They were DX team when they were shoulder by shoulder against the heaven. Then during the journey to the west, Wukong joined the new gang. You can think that gang is the "Evolution" !
If wukong dies in the hands of ix king then who is the wukong start of the game
A reincarnation of him thats why the keep calling him destined one and when you get all 6 relics in game The mc/you will get all of wukong memories and abilities making wukong reborn into the destined one
Guys please I'd love to know this OST.
Destiny
Would someone tell me what song is playing?
The game developers created the music
Anyone know the song
Is the pig evil since he was laughing at the death of bull’s wife
Jade-faced fox was causing lots of pain for the Journey to the West. There’s also theory to say she’s a spy sent by the court.
He's not evil but he does have his vices
I don't get it?
There is bullshit explained in comments other than people dilly dallying
If WuKong is immortal how can he die?
Kind of the legend of the Phoenix. It dies and is reborn..a new
only if he allows it,which he did as part of the plan to remove the crown
Immortal=/=invincible

Read “Journey to the west” closely, you’ll find it. It’s a very long story about the relationship between Wukong and his big brother, the Bull king
People demanding story of Journey of the West is like demanding story of Perseus' Odyssey or Heracles.
You don't get the answer, you must seach it yoyrself because everyone thought the entire world already know the entire legend.
Wow these characters are jerks.
