I thought the adage was going to be “Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet.”

@deepdragon2 Meet The Sniper. It's a trailer for Team Firtress 2 from the mid 00s.
@@The_Viscount Actually, It's originally a quote from General James "Mad Dog" Mattis of the US Marine Corps.
Peaceful* Deathwrolders.
*Subject to change if the conditions necessary to maintain peace become intolerable.
I like the hfy genre of "the difference between peaceful and harmless"
Same. I love stories like this.
Ohh yes that is so much fun
"Better to be a warrior in a garden, than a gardener in a war." and "Speak softly and carry a big stick."
Our idea of peace is to always have the Hammer of Overkill and a clear idea on how to use it. No one else needs to know of said Hammer, but it's there ready to swing.
Humanity as a whole uses Batman's policy on contingency plans: Make friends, but always have a plan if things go south.
Humans: Walks softly
Aliens: Mine!
Also humans: BEEEG STIK!
Except I'm pretty sure that one presupposes the stick to be visible, sort of like the good cop-bad cop game. "See, we're all nice and friendly - but remember, if we want to, we can crush you any time we want. Don't make us want to."
@@KaiHenningsen Stealth tech, beeeg stik still there.
@@Rawkit_Surgeon It's "... and carry a big stick", not "... and carry concealed".
@KaiHenningsen you don't want to share your cards with the enemy. Besides, the stick is just there to distract from the hidden gun. We're playing for keeps in the big leagues. Last thing you want to do is play fair.
@@Rawkit_Surgeon The saying with the big stick is typically applied to nations who just so happen to have the biggest stick, or at least in the specific context. They don't *_need_* to hide the stick.
Wikipedia writes _Big stick ideology, big stick diplomacy, big stick philosophy, or big stick policy was a political approach used by the 26th president of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt. The terms are derived from an aphorism which Roosevelt often said: "speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far".[1] The American press during his time, as well as many modern historians today, used the term "big stick" to describe the foreign policy positions during his administration. Roosevelt described his style of foreign policy as "the exercise of intelligent forethought and of decisive action sufficiently far in advance of any likely crisis".[2] As practiced by Roosevelt, big stick diplomacy had five components. First, it was essential to possess serious military capability that would force the adversary to pay close attention. At the time that meant a world-class navy; Roosevelt never had a large army at his disposal. The other qualities were to act justly toward other nations, never to bluff, to strike only when prepared to strike hard, and to be willing to allow the adversary to save face in defeat.[3]_

Peaceful does not mean harmless.
I leave this as a declaration of intent, so no one will be confused.
One: "Si vis pacem, para bellum." Latin. Boot Camp Sergeant made us recite it like a prayer. "Si vis pacem, para bellum - If you want peace, prepare for war."
-The Punisher
From: The Punisher (2004)
Beware the wrath of a peaceful people from a deadly world
There is a beautiful old adage: Beware the wrath of a patient man.
A cat is cute, and also has claws!
Batman is proud in his watchtower...
War makes a deathworld look like a paradise planet.
Modern war. Ancient wars make it look like Tuesday. I mean, it's still hell, but it's the same kind of hell many animals experience, too. It's not special. Modern war is special.
It's just like, trying to kill Jews isn't (unfortunately) special, it has been done again on and off for at least 2000 years. The holocaust, on the other hand, was special - because of its horrific effectiveness. That is what made it unprecedented. That is what made WWI so horrible. That is why global warming is such a massive problem. Because we are so horribly effective at destruction today.
@@KaiHenningsen meh...i understand your premise...but war today isn't close to wars of yesterday. you can kill a man from 100m out and farther and not even know anything more about him (that's just regular infantry grunt, nevermind dropped bombs, or artillery). in the wars you describe from the past. you had to be in his personal space, look him in the eye, maybe even smell his morning meal on his breath as you killed him, and your friends killed his and vice versa. to the tune of thousands and tens of thousands dying that way, in a single day, on a single battlefield (obviously I'm refrencing the larger of the battles in history as not all involved tens of thousands at a time, but their premise was the same...face to face).
@ Sure, but my point was, you see very ancient-war-like behavior in animal species (typically insects). In that respect, those were not special. Modern war is special in the way that it involves not just killing a few thousands, but killing millions. There is horror, and then there is something that makes that horror seem harmless in comparison. And we've grown far too good at producing these mega-horrors.
As usual, you fail to disappoint. Well done.
Start no shit, take no shit, give no fucks.
Merry Christmas everyone in the other time zone
I prefer " War is War, and Hell is Hell. And of the two, War is a Hell of a lot worse. "
Hawk Eye, M.A.S.H
No innocents in hell
sounds just about right, how ever i prefer..veni, vidi, vici
You can push us just so far, xenos!
If war is hell, better to be on the side doling out punishment than the one recieving it.
either way you're still in hell....
@@GarmrsBarking kinda an irrelevant comment there.
@@Nevir202 Kind of a very relevant comment here. There is a reason why humans want to avoid _any_ war, not just the one where they're losing. Or to put it differently, in war, you always lose - it's just one side tends to lose more than the other.
@@KaiHenningsen my point exactly... in war everyone loses...
Great Story!!

So bad, they avoid making things worse.
