A quick visit from a Hummingbird around the 5:19 mark.
Saw it, that was great timing!
how do black and blue saliva and red sage do in pots. I'd prefer not to plant what would be annuals in my zone in the ground.?
Nice color. Love Salvia
Salvias are my favorites, especially the mystic spires salvia. I moved it a total of 3 times in the middle of scorching Texas heat and it didn't bother it one bit. ❤
Love Salvias! I have several in my garden including Black and Blue, Skyscraper, and Summer Jewel. :)
Salvias are among my favorites. Black and blue gets me every time, but it does every year with just a little frost. I'm So CA, zone 9, and that one eludes me. This year, it goes on a pot and dragged up to the house until Spring.
Salvias are a must have! My greggi Salvias are indestructible... Thank you!
Thank you for watching and participating.
I like how you laid out the planting bed. It's a hummingbird schmorgasbord!
The Ember’s Wish™ is really lovely; so is the Black and Bloom. Saw the hummingbird! They are amazing.
Great plants for the hummingbird. will try these this year in my garden. Bennie
Thanks for the tip! I'm off to get me some Salvia!!!
I plant the fushia and the black and blue saliva here in Indiana they are annuals so I plant them in 20 inch pots one plant will fill the whole pot . I put them all around the hummingbird feeders and the Hummers don't even look at the feeders, bit they're all over the saliva,
I have salvia Black And blue, Hummingbirds love them in PA.
Awesome
This is very helpful.
Thanks Jim, checking out zone 9 plants, so enjoy your video's.So helpful
These are gorgeous! I have one salvia in my corner bed next to the house. I also have a few other plants that are hummingbird friendly and keep a hummingbird feeder there. I really want to add one of these to the flower bed. The bed gets morning sun and part of it gets afternoon sun as well. Do you think these new varieties are less hardy than the older ones? I didn't know if you thought it was just because you were planting them on the west side of your house or just unsure what the new varieties would be like. Now off to see if I can find them locally.....
I absolutely love those salvias! I've not seen those. I will definitely be looking for those. Are all of those salvia zone 9?
Yes, all of those are hardy in zone 9
@@JimPutnam well poohy! I'm in 7a. Thank you for telling me. 😀
I live in South Florida where we have scorching summers. I recently noticed the leaves on my salvias are droopy (it's in a large container). Any suggestions?
Can Salvia produce the flowers during the winter in a greenhouse with the right temperature?
Probably not, because of the short days. Additional light would also be required.
Hi Jim. Do I cut back the dead wood on the salvia? I planted them this summer so I have no experience with them. Zone 7b.
I will prune mine at the end of February. I am doing a pruning video in two weeks.
I had black and blue (bloom?) Salvia at my last house and it took over the entire front garden over the years. What's a good way to control it?
As soon as mine break dormancy in the spring, I chop them off with a shovel back to the space I want it to be. It is easy unless they are allowed to grow a few weeks.
Hi Jim do sell guara?
Also how far from Robbinsville is your nursery
Yes, I sell them at the garden center. Getting some late this week. You are a long way across the state from me. Five hours or more, probably
HortTube with Jim Putnam Darn I’m actually in E TN was working in the nc area later this week. Do you sell by mail?
This is off the subject of the video, but I'm looking for a "make your neighbor go away" bush that will grow in both heavy clay, and deep shade with only slight dappling of light. It needs to be 8 feet or taller at maturity, and be evergreen, so it gives me privacy 365 days a year. Does such a bush exist? I straddle zone 7a/7b in Texas.
It's also on the the side of a very slight hill, so the soil is poor and washed away down to the clay with a bit of sand on top. If it matters, the only things I've been able to grow in that soil is Althea and Pomegranates, but both are out from under the shade of the trees.
LoL. I live in the country and always say "corn makes good neighbors"
What flower plants gopher don't like I live San Luis Obispo Ca.
Deer resistant?
Very much.
Jim is that just 1 Salvia in each pot?
Yes, it is just one. They grow like crazy with a good amount of space.
Yep I bought some put like 3 in a pot well I'm separating them now really nice flower!
