@@wonderlife62 Yes but in the Bible it says wisdom starts with the fear of the Lord. So we should try and keep his commands. Keeping his commands doesn’t always save you. Look at the Pharisees. But Jesus said to them you should have done the later without forgetting the former. He’s saying that you need a relationship with God but you also need to follow his commands. Jesus knows the commands from God in the Old Testament we’re still important. Because if you don’t follow Gods word it’s basically impossible to have a good relationship with him. Doesn’t mean you won’t sin. It means you wont live IN sin. Keep on shunning evil as much as you can. God bless ✌🏻

I had a very difficult time all my life having a Father child relationship with God because I was taught in the Methodist & Baptist churches as a child that fear of the Lord only meant be afraid or you will go to hell. 51 years later I found in the Hebrew writing the context of scripture "Fear" is most important. Yes it can mean be afraid, but it also means in awe of, to revere. It broke down my walls and open the door to fullness with our Heavenly Father. Oh He is so marvelous!

this is literally the question I had earlier. and the way I saw it was exactly what this guy is describing. I am not afraid of god, I'm afraid of what i would become without him. but the way it's said, makes it sound like I'm supposed to be afraid of him. but if god is all good, then I know his judgement of me will be just, and if I'm sent to hell, then I know my sins have made me unredeemable even with my love for christ, and I will not curse God's decision if that is his decision. it doesn't make me fear him that he can destroy me, Its an infinity merciful action that he allowed me to make it this far. and I am thankful for everyday he allows me to continue.

I grew up scared of God and at one point came to believe we are already in hell. It's been a very long time but I have finally come to understand God not with fear but with love. But it's very recent and I still have much to learn and much to do to get up to speed.

God's presence came over the foothills, in the sunrise as he is the sunrise, the veil between us thin like a see through praise flag and I wanted to leap out of my truck window as i drove to church, to get with him physically, realizing it will crash or he will keep it moving harming no one and nothing. I like to think that fearing the Lord is what prevents us from committing sin. When we openly sin, we are not fearing God, and He makes it known to us that we need to repent. He is faithful and just and it is marvelous. 🙏
The end did it for me! One of the first things God explained to me was that fear wasn’t about being scared of God it was about the fear of not having him near.

To me, it’s like when I was a kid, I couldn’t wait for my dad to get home from work, unless I had done something to make my mother say “Just wait till your father gets home.”. That is how I think of fear of the Lord. If you are doing your best, pray for guidance and forgiveness, you don’t have to be afraid of when your Father gets here.
We fear our earthly father's discipline, so we obeyed. We obey him when we are older because we love and respect him and recognize all he did for us. Same thing with our heavenly Father.
