Ah.. the Les Paul 100's.. When I first sat saw that transparent seafoam green finish in promo pics it looked very cool, but then I kept seeing real life examples and it looked like.. this. Insert sad muted trumpet here! But one man's trash is Derek's treasure! Haha.. Minus all that sanding.. jeeza! Another beautiful job as always!
Watching you work D, you colour by eye, yes it was more blue than purple, but instinctively knew, what it needed, I would have thought a stronger red, but you knew! I ❤ Les Paul's and figured maple, and purple! You, TOTALLY NAILED IT! STUNNING!
Purple is like Orange in that it comes out far better if applied with 2 cup guns at the exact same time . Old-timer, 4th generation finisher taught me after laughing his ass off watching me argue with rag application for 3 days . Takes a little practice but the results are worth it . Nice work 😁 .
Once again I had my doubts about that color and then you get your mojo on it and it ends up beautiful. I actually like the original purple as well. More great work! Have a great Thanksgiving my friend!
Just a suggestion regarding the black sand back technique. I found using dissimilar solvent stains works best so one colour doesn’t bleed into the next. So I use both water based Keda stains and alcohol stains. Typically the water Black Keda is first, then sand back, then alcohol rubbed and/or sprayed after. This way the black won’t bleed up changing your colour.
That looks like so much fun, but so difficult! I wonder if block sanding (or a scraper!) would leave more contrast than steel wool after the black, on tops with weak figure. Seems to me it would leave more in the deep grain and less overall smudginess but I dunno ;) Also you might be better off mixing purple with black for the first coat depending on what you're going for.
Interesting. Does the clear coat not end up on the binding? So the sides have the original clear coat or are they scraped back to the original plastic? Does the polishing buff the plastic if it's clear coat free?
@@andysaucedo3226 Oh, right. All the more reason not to use it, then. I knew lacquer took a while but I didn't know it would take longer than building an entire guitar by hand.
Very glad to see you back!
Awesome like always, Derek. Nice to see you back!
Beautiful color! The client had better be happy with it! COMPLETELY STUNNING!

Beautiful!!!!! Excellent work.
Welcome back!
Thanks for this
Fantastic work Derek.
I'm sure you've another happy customer.
Glad to see a video from You.
Nice refinish Derick. That top came out amazing. Really gave it a new life, man I got to try doing a refinishing in the future.
Thanks for the video Derek, Cheers from Canada

Oh man, a purple Les Paul is one of my dream guitars. Especially if it had some gold hardware.
Awesome refin. Love that hue of purple!! That being said, I have the same guitar and am a big fan of the original finish lol
A heat gun makes finish removal a breeze, tons less tedious sanding.
long time no see, this looks awesome
Enjoying this video
PRETTY!!
Another beautiful result 👍👍
Does the low voc Angelus seem much different?
O vídeo mal começou e eu já dei like 😂😂😂 como eu amo guitarra Les Paul.
Excellent as usual. Go Blue. Beat Ohio.
looks very nice
Great to see a new video...
Just a quick question.....what do you like about the Angelus dye as opposed to Keda or transtint?
I'm also curious! My guess is that he has used the Angelus a lot and with all the premixed colors available it just makes it more convenient
That’s awesome

Great job budy

You clear coat the binding.
I'm interested in this refinish but, that t-shirt... I just can't. Maybe next week.
Nice
rightous !
Unless it's already been refinished at some point, that should be a nitro finish shouldn't it? I haven't heard of Gibson using anything else.
I agree, do you know what is a two k finish...two pack?
@mrmanch204 2k is the clear coat. It's basically a polyurethane with a hardner in it to get to cure and harden faster.
👀Dig it! 👀
I think it looked better with the sea foam color
It was wild watching this guy mutilate a Les Paul. Holy Shit!
Wait, what?! Mohawk needs Six weeks?! Is that just 'cuz it's so cold?
No, it's because it nitrocellulose lacquer
@@andysaucedo3226 Oh, right. All the more reason not to use it, then. I knew lacquer took a while but I didn't know it would take longer than building an entire guitar by hand.
Wow...that looks fantastic!!!
I don’t think that top is amazing at all. That’s not a nice top.
Trust me, I've done this before....
Now she can breathe and age beautifully! I prefer lacquer or natural over poly finishes.
😂😂😂 "she can now breathe"
Dead wood breathes????
That looks epic, as always
Gibson only uses nitrocellulose lacquer.
The purple looks great, definitely better than the original color!
That's almost plum.
Whoa! What a difference! That came out fantastic😮
Looks really hazy compared to what it was. Damn.
nope
