I recently started living alone for the first time and I noticed I’m not getting enough protein in my diet because I really do not know how to cook, and I’ve watched other cooking videos trying to figure it out but this one def helped me understand better about what I should do. So I will try this out on my next day off
Im 12 and cooking steak for my family and this is my first time, so glad theres a tutorial on an easy steak, and not tutorials on like super professional steaks u gt at 5 star restaraunts, thanks so much! Thats a solid like from me
My boyfriend and I tried this tonight, and it worked great! I don't have a range hood either, but we managed to keep the smoke alarm from going off by implementing our own version of the fan-in-the-window method. The steak was delicious -- best home-cooked steak we've had in years! Thank you!
I'm 64 and have been cooking since I was a kid in grade school. Used to cook steaks like this but over the years, I've forgotten how to cook a thin steak (like I used to) and this was a great reminder. All the other videos stress taking steaks out and letting them sit before cooking. They never seem to take into consideration that MOST people that are watching these videos are buying their steaks at the grocery store, and they aren't thick, especially if they are on sale. These days, my budget requires me to shop the sales! I also, don't have a range hood (fan) in my current residence and I set the fire alarms off every time I sear meats. THANK YOU SO MUCH for the box fan idea! No other videos that I've watched even mentioned the fact that if you do this properly, you WILL set off the fire alarm unless you take steps to prevent it. Thanks again for all your tips and insight that us regular folks can use! You rock!!
I’m 14 and live to cook! I cooked my first steak using this video and it was very helpful! It came out a little bit on the dry side but over all it was great 👍🏾
thats awesome! keep it up but maybe look for better homecooks or actually chefs on youtube cause this isnt a good video, espacially if you want to learn something
I’ve never made a steak via stove top before. I made 5 for the family tonight for my Mom’s birthday. This was my go to video. Thanks for making it. Everyone said it was very good. :)
I did this last night with venison steaks. I did forget to salt it before cooking, but salted it when I ate it. I put butter in the cast iron pan, cooked some garlic until it browned, and then removed the garlic to leave garlic-flavored butter behind. Cooked the steaks in that; done to a perfect, juicy medium. (Sometimes if we have vermouth on hand, I deglaze the pan with that.) Boy, I've come a LONG way from the gamy, overcooked hockey puck steaks I used to make when we first started getting deer! LOL
I’m 9 years late but I’m pretty sure you’re meant to just cook the steak in oil first, and then add the butter (+ garlic, if you want) once it is nearly finished cooking.
I should not be watching this right now I'm so hungry and it's 3 in the morning. But I will try this when lunch comes if I can. Thanks for the simple and easy video!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I tried this and it turned out perfectly! although I am only 12 years old, i am cooking for my whole church because everyone there knows a cook great! I already knew how to cook steak but I wanted to know some techneics from a wonderful cook! you are absolutely amazing at cooking, I am so happy we both our passion. I am also a ilastrater for professional children books. It's lot of fun. But anywho, back to thanking you, thank you so much for this it means the world to me! have a great day!
You finally got me past my trepidation and I cooked a steak for the first time. Thanks for the heads up about ventilation. Appreciate every point of your guidance for this experience. 🤪Not bad week night dinner was scrumptious! Cheers👨🍳
I think this is one of the best steak videos around. Simple and it works. Too many people make the mistake of leaving the salting to the last minute, worried that any longer and they will dry out the steak. This doesn't happen if you leave it for half an hour as the juices go back into the steak. If I can make one criticism I didn't hear you tell people to rest the steak for 10 minutes before eating as this allows the sinews to relax. Apart from that, excellent video. Thanks.
After watching & reading on how to cook a steak from other videos and websites, your video was on point. Learning to cook Steaks for the 1st time & they came out great! Thank you very much!
Hooooooo bay-be I marinated my steak overnight and cooked it exactly how you said!!!!!! *stomps* PERFECT. I used kosher salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and some garlic and herb seasoning *drools* ( I set off my smoke alarm too lol)
I really wish RUclips would have recommended me this video when I inquired about cooking steaks because I been going crazy trying to figure out how the heck they can cook a steak more than a couple minutes each side without obliterating the thing because it turns out the only steaks I can readily get are ones that around an inch thick if that. Then there's the matter of my small apartment that triggers the smoke alarm around the 2 minute mark of cooking on the stove because my range hood is there mainly for decoration and to make noise than to be of any use venting smoke. Definitely going to try the upside box fan out the window method from here on!
Very helpful...I was searching around for how to cook a thinner steak & your video was helpful...Plus the fan idea helped too! No over head fan. I've never been without a overhead fan before. Thank you!
For all you bitching about him "stealing" from Ramsay...he has acknowledged Ramsay in his damn title! And if he did it after the fact of everybody bitching, so what? Far as I know, Ramsay doesn't have a patent on cooking steak, and for me, this guy's video was invaluable! Thank you sir! You had the best video (I looked at 5-6 of them) for cooking my thin boneless ribeye - I'm 43 years old, and I can only cook a few basic things at kindergarten level, and my incredible cook of a wife is on vacation. I have NEVER cooked a steak before, and it came out AMAZING, I just used Lawry's Garlic salt vs. regular salt b/c that's what the Mrs. does. I took the steak from the freezer to the fridge and it had been weighing on me ever since, as I screw up frying up frozen Bubba Burgers 50%-75% of the time I cook them, and even ruin eggs 50% of the time. Just as panic set in, I watched this video 3x, went for broke, and now I'm a proud, fat & happy man tonight, lol. Buen Provecho!
Kyle P ...but they use clarified butter; which has a higher smoke point i.e. it won't burn and can withstand the same high heat as ground nut oil (as I've been told anyway!) For anyone who doesn't know how to make clarified butter, all you do is gently heat up the required amt of butter in a heavy-ish saucepan for a while, then skim off the 'foamy' bits until you're left with just the yellow oil (i.e. the clarified butter). You can even use clarified butter ( to coat the steaks etc. not the griddle itself) on a cast iron griddle. But you couldn't use regular butter, as it would just burn.
Sir important question please reply love all your steak vids mI HAVE NO WINDOWS AND NO FAN .I EAT STEAK EVERY DAY HIW DO I COOK IT WITHOUT SMOKE I HAVE STAINLESS PRO PAN. PLEASE. I CANT HAVE THE SMOKE
I followed your directions (for the most part, I used McCormick Mesquite and 5th Season Garlic Powder) but I cooked it with the "two things of butter" for 2 minutes a side and it tastes great but it's really chewy at times, I wish I bought better quality meat now. I took a bite and then remembered to drizzle the "pan juices" on top and it made all the difference! I paired it with a Sutter Home: California Moscato try something different. I'm usually a beer guy but I gave wine another try and the pairing is great. Thank you for posting this video! P.S. thanks for reminding me to turn on the hood fan! Smoke alarm didn't go off.
I cook based on the 4-3-2 method: high heat cast iron pan with no oil (other than possibly leftover oil from previous cookery). Salt the steak before cooking to taste and let it be absorbed, then blot off excess moisture and add pepper just before cooking. 4 min on side one, flip, 3 min on side two, remove and rest for 2 minutes. But that's for a 1 - 1 1/2" thick steak, I vary it based on the thickness of the steak. I poke it with my tongs not my finger to judge the doneness. I wouldn't want a chef poking at my steak so I don't poke the steak myself. Also I sear the edges a little before removing it, then put some thin slices of butter on top of the steak while it rests.
I watched you cook steaks sous vide style before and tried the sous vide method myself (using the deepfrier hack). After all this I find the "old school" steak cooking unappealing, even if you show the obviously more practical and less time consuming method. I rarely eat steaks but when I do, I cook them sous vide every time, searing them fairly well afterwards though. I enjoy (as always) you showing your way of cooking and trying the results... the chewing/tasting/enjoying yourself facial expressions in particular are brilliant... ;-) regards, Sander.
The bit with the dog at 1:28 really cracked me up. I cook meals for me and my dog because, what they put in dog food is absolutely awful, and that bit kinda just reminded me of me and my dog.
I really like this. My mom used this method and it has been a very long time since I have done this myself. I use the grill most all the time. I guess I would use 2.5 minutes as I like medium well (no pink).

When I heard "use what you got" i knew i was in the right place
Its fkn raw
That and “turn it to hot... hot means hot”
If Gordon Ramsay saw what I got he’d blow a gasket.
For reaal
Are we just gonna ignore "put in a couple of glugs"? 😂
He speaks in my cooking language, " two things of butter" understood.
Katicus 😂😂😂
@@dhawk718 Also, "glubs" of oil and "hot means hot"
Katicus the second i heard that, i automatically scrolled to the comments section to find this comment. Lmao

Totally agree, this one is the simplest, and all what I needed to know. I like it.

you can't go wrong with steak! great video, I switched to coarse salt last year, it makes a HUGE difference.
Primal Edge agreed. i like the chunks of salt on the crust! eric.
Worked great and it tasted amazing sheesh gonna do it again tomorrow
Forego the the vegetable oil. Start cooking it butter. Add 3~4 garlic cloves and rosemary to the pan before you start the steak.
Geo good ideas Geo, thanks for that! eric.
Butter burns without oil. Can't do it without some kind of oil to start of with.
That's not true at all, plenty of videos with chefs cooking with butter
