How to fix your CD/DVD drive (if your computer doesn't detect it)

- Hello RUclips today im going to show you on how to fix your CD/DVD drive in Windows 7.
I experieced this problem right after I took my custom computer apart and out it back together. I checked it everything was properly connected and it was. But the drive icon never showed up on the computer.
Steps:
1. Click start and in the searchbar, search for "regedit"
2. Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
3. Go to "SYSTEM"
4. Go to "CurrentControlSet"
5. Go to "Control"
6. Go to "Class"
7. Go to "{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}"
8. And you want to make sure that you delete only your "LowerFilters" and "UpperFilters"
9. Restart your computer and it should detec the CD/DVD drive

I tried this fix. I had no "upper filters" but I had "lower filters" that I deleted. I rebooted and CD/DVD drive reappeared!! GREAT VIDEO...thank you!

PLEASE READ IF YOUR GONNA TRY THIS!!! Never Make edits to your registry without first backing it up so you can revert your changes if they do not work out.
I keep a dedicated drive with a system Image, This way if any files are broken and Windows cannot start up, I can use my Windows System Disk and Re-Image my system back to the glory days. Backups are a really good idea and anyone who doesn't have a system backup really needs to get on that. Windows 10 even has it's own Backup program built in just click Start Menu, or Windows Key and type Backup, Click on "Backup and Recovery Windows 7" Don't worry it works for Windows 10 also! Click "Create System Image" on the left upper pane and follow the prompts. You can backup to Network, A set of CD's or to a Hard drive or USB device. If you need to Re-Image your device because it is being slow, sluggish or has issues, you can click the start menu, click the power Icon, Hold down shift while clicking "Restart" and the computer will restart into the Advanced system startup options, a blue Screen. Click "Troubleshoot" Click Use a Disk Image" This also works when you are Upgrading or changing Disk Drives. For instance Upgrading to an SSD or a Bigger Hard drive.

I only had the "Upper Filter" indicator and deleted it and it worked! solving two problems, thx!
Those who doesn't have upper and lower filters in the Regedit, you have to search another regkey in the DeviceManager.
Then you have to check your driver's Properties, and after that you can check the right regkey in the "events" tab.
I hope you can solve your problem with that.
when i put my cd on the computer,nothing happened!My cd drive is still not fixedd..

I am using will 10 and I am having the same problem and as far as I can detect is that the CD is not rotating in the case.

neither of both logs that we are supposed to deleted from the regedit are there.

Not gonna delete anything in the registry on the word of anyone who I don't know is a trusted guru. But guess what!? I put a DVD in my drive and Voila! There it is!

was the upper & lowerfilters files supposed to restore , mine did not. My cd/dvd player still does not work. It is just not playing, I have to look at a different video. This one wasn't the right one for my issue. I try to play the cd, it opens the door "insert a disc" but I have one in there already. When it door opens the disc is spinning , not sure what todo.

How do I enable my CD/DVD drive? I have a HP Pavilion laptop w/ w10 and when I put a cd in the drive and nothing happens.

What if you had your device appearing already, just not working, you did that, had a problem even bigger because nothing else would work, needed to reinstall the system and now you can't because it's always said that one mandatory driver (CD/DVD) is missing and you can't proceed with the installation? Any ideas of how to fix that as well? Thanks.

For those saying "I don't have those files! What do I do?!: Since the goal was to delete them, if you don't have them already, you don't need to delete them. Your problem doesn't relate to Upper and Lower filters, so you have to look for a different solution. (Don't ask me; I'm searching for a solution to my own problem.)
