Maybe I’m just old, but when I went to school back in New York 35 or 40 years ago, we not only were told that New York is a “melting pot” of cultures from around the world, but we saw it first hand. I thought it was a great opportunity to learn and appreciate those cultures and when you have that many people become citizens, they will still have a certain worry or fear for their many relatives back where they were born before coming to this great land. Additionally, as a disabled veteran, I can assure you that WE are primarily responsible for keeping world peace because we have the strongest militarily by far and the most political reach. If we won’t do it, nobody will, and the “bad guys” will absolutely take advantage of that hole! Luckily, we have a military composed of that very same melting pot and we are usually happy to help no matter which corner of the Earth needs us most! This is “Civics 101,” but what we put in, we get out. Great nations have only crumbled once their citizens failed to remember that they have a commitment to their nation and to take advantage of the rights it offers. Once we stop using those rights, they disappear. Sadly, most of the melting pots are concentrated to larger cities with the majority of our nation otherwise being rather homogeneous. That’s a shame because folks like you will never get to see the impact it has on civics on both the micro and macroscopic levels. Civilizations don’t crumble over centuries, but historically it only takes a decade to set it into motion.
