Thanks you THANK YOU SO MUCH for publishing these lectures. The key concept of Sankhya was said very well by Swamiji. It 's Very easy to understand for the preparation for philosophy exams.

Thank you so much. Very nice lecture and easy to understand with in-depth ancient philosophy. I like your way of teaching... can't we revoke our focus until your sessions end.

Much of Swamiji’s interpretation appears poised in the western idiom, which is not suitable for representing millennia old Indic philosophies. Swamiji takes note of trivial outer coverings like the child is the father of the man - and - other Cartesian dualisms to analyze Sankhya. Dualism of Prakrit Purushottam is different from Cartesian dualism coming from the western traditions. If you throw away Cartesianisms, your epistemology becomes infinitely richer, like when you replace the fifth postulate/axiom of Euclid re parallel lines with others, your understanding and application of geometry becomes much richer, versatile and deeper. First, Samkhya places duality at a primal and equal level as complementary aspects. Cartesian soul/god duality has a servant/master relationship. Not only that Cartesianism has an implied third, the jada, which is a product on Samkhya, in keeping with all Indic schools which give primacy to the ‘not jada’ and interpret jada as a padartha. I would suggest first throwing away Western idioms completely in order to provide a radical and deeper understanding of all Indic philosophies first.

One way to understand Sankhya is to jettison western categories entirely. As Rajiv Malhotra says soul is not Purusha - the atoms or dhathus of purusha are pumsam, ru- and sham. Awareness is purusha not consciousness. Stop interpreting Indian philosophies according to the Christians.

Unless you have had your entire schooling in a gurukul in Varanasi, there is no escape for today’s Indians from first getting educated in the Western mold. In my experience, most “educated” Indians understand Indian philosophy best when it is presented in a way that is designed for Western minds, like the lectures of Swami Vivekananda or Dr. Radhakrishnan. It is not enough to be born Indian to have a mind like an Indian in Vedic times.

How can I learn indian philosophy, or the schools of Hinduism in an unadulterated manner. Which books to refer?
