One of my favorite works by Buxtehude. The guy was prolific. Even JS Bach idolized this guy.

I once heard a very eminent musicologist say that if Buxtehude hadn't existed Bach as we know and revere him wouldn't have existed either. This glorious performance certainly bears that out.

Buxtehude truly is a precursor considering his chamber music anticipates the italian masters like Corelli much later.

Superlative as this sounds, words fail me so all I can is "Excellent!" Such a tight performance and a great sounding room! I hope that you realize how fortunate you all are to be able to perform such works. Speaking as one who probably will never realize his musical potential as a keyboardist/continuo/composer, I envy you: in a healthy way. You are so lucky that you get to do this as your life's work. Cherish it as I'm sure you do. Thank you very much for this video!!!

It is so passionate. And the players are so good. Kimura-San is an excellent performer, when she closes here eyes I can feel her love for what she plays. Also, the editing and camera work is the best I've seen in a performance. Great Job!! Looking for more.

side note - did anyone else notice the interesting chord right at 4:36? The violinist plays a 7th - B& A, whereas the music actually has a fifth, D&A (which makes more sense over the f# in the bass, leading to the G minor chord.)

Buxtehude did not travel far or very much at all but his music and reputation as a skilled organist did.
He wrote cantatas that were a prelude to Bach in this field and the latter composer went out of his way to hear him play though they probably never met because he was so in awe of him.

DIETRICH BUXTEHUDE { BAD OLDESLOE , HOLSTEIN 1637~1707 LUBECK } ~ SONATA A 2 { BUXWV 272 } ~ ENSEMBLE FANTASTICUS ~.

In contrast to Bach Buxtehude is full of spontaneity and freedom which is unbelievably well understood by the Japanese lady. The normal Japanese performance is often only too exact and boring lacking them. She is as a Japanese einmalig, eccecionale .
