    Nice analysis as always. There is only one reason though. When Novak plays at his best level (and this was 2019 AO crushing of Nadal level) there is nobody on the planet (or likely ever) who can come close. He was serving like Isner and hitting forehands like a video game. There was nothing Sinner could do How does someone increase their MPH 10 and hit less UFAs? Amazing.

      Didn't Djokovic play "at his best level" when he lost the final in Wimbledon 2023? He did. He played at his best level. But it wasn't enough to beat Alcaraz at his best. Novak "at his best level" doesn't have more quality than Federer Nadal or Alcaraz "at their best level". He has won more titles than every other player just because he's got more athletic quality and can keep his best shape during the most important and stressing competitions.

      @@carloartificialintelligence 💀Ok buddy. If I try to disprove what you're saying, I'm a toxic Djokovic fan. If I say nothing, I have nothing to back up my claims. And stupidest of all, I'm supposedly playing victim by speaking the truth. Nonetheless, I will say what I want and take it as you will.
      First of all, Djokovic didn't play a single lead up tournament during the grass season ahead of Wimbledon, so clearly it wasn't his peak level. Also he's 36, he's well beyond his peak level. Second of all, Alcaraz at his best level beats Djokovic in 5 sets while Djokovic at peak level beats Alcaraz 6-2 6-3. Literally happened 2 days ago. Also saying that he's only won because of athletic quality and mental strength doesn't even make sense. Isn't that Nadal's entire persona as well? And same can be said about Federer. Only won 20 grand slams because of talent.

    During the press conference Novak said something that I thought was striking. Looking towards 2024 Djokovic said, "I don't know whether I'm going to have as good of a year next year, but I'm going to keep this kind of FRESHNESS OF MIND & motivation to do that.” Freshness of mind. What I saw on Sunday was like a mesmerizing dance, Djokovic seemed like he was levitating in space in slow motion, Neo from the matrix style. Freshness of mind. I thought those words were perfect to describe what I felt when watching him play. I had actually called it grace of mind before I saw his press conference. I was shook when I heard him say that.
    To be a bit figurative here by using superhero myth, Djokovic's win on Sunday contextualized the ATP Finals as the moment Djokovic finished gathering all of the infinity stones, with the victory he snapped his fingers and the universe became his.
    Now, sitting on his throne with the infinity gauntlet firmly on his hand, Djokovic has a special opportunity...
    Keep going. Keep going with a new freshness of mind.
    I sincerely think that this could be a turning point towards something we've never seen.
    Go Novak. Go. Boldly go, where no one... has gone before.

    • @TennisUnleashed
      @TennisUnleashed  11 месяцев назад +1

      Beautifully written. I didn’t realize he said that in his post match presser. I’m assuming those words come from the fact that he has now shown the field the level that the bar has been raised to, and he knows the field will work their butts off to match or exceed that bar. As a sports film analyst I can tell you this, his competitors teams will be breaking down his film from this event to watch and learn from. But the new bar is insanely high…
      2024 should be incredible for tennis fans.

    The fact that Novak lost in round robin might have helped him in the semi-finals and finals. Did become very sharp and increased the FH speed and depth. Many times Sinner did noit have time to set his feet.. .Speed kills, doesn't it? In the round robin match he won same number of points as Sinner did - 109 each. Novak had better numbers overall in almost every category. Novak FAILED to save 2 out of 3 break points. Sinner SAVED 2 out of 3 break points. Sinner was very solid indeed, but the media made it how he had destroyed Novak... That lonely break of serve for Sinner was the difference. Novak had 100 total service games (won 73%) and Seinner had 118 (69%)... Winners/UFE 46/14 Djokovic, whicle Sinner managed 37/11... 2ND SERVE RETURN POINTS WON: Djokjovic 21/47 (45%) Sinner 15/37 (41%)... Aces were 20:15 for Djokovic, DoubleFaults 1 Novak & 2 Sinner. Yannik had a success in his 2nd serve points won 26/47 (55%). Pretty high as usually Novak does not allow that. Novak had better percantage of points returning serves.

    Sinner was tired, even said so. Pressure of being home town champion was a factor also IMO. Even Roger Federer felt that pressure, publicly admitting it when playing in Switzerland. Curiously there is no Serbian Open at this level I don't think.
    Experience played a huge factor here. Knowing when to peak deep into a tournament is an art all of itself. I really wondered why Sinner practiced with Djokovic TBH. That was exactly what Djokovic needed having lost in the earlier rounds. Huge mistake mentally for Sinner IMO

      Practice has always been an opportunity to learn and test your opponent's weapons. Also anyone can watch online and analyse games in details like never before, just like in this video. After many years and games, there is nothing that Djokovic didn't know, or doesn't know about Sinner, or any other player. He can classify players in groups by playing styles, moves and adjust his tactics accordingly. Regardless, Sinner's time is coming, when he will be able to apply what he learnt from the Master. It's a pity that new kids these days are seeking elegance or brute force rather than longevity..

      With his dominant wins against Carlos and Jannik, it's hard to bet against Novak at the AO24. Of course, there's a long way to go and many things can change, but for now, he's the heavy favorite.

      It depends on the health's condition of Alcaraz and Sinner. Both young players showed that they can beat Djokovic if they are top fit and play at their best. On a very good day also Medvedev and Rune can beat Novak.

    Novak Djokovic intentionally lost the second set in the match against Hurkacz, including intentionally losing to Sinner in the group stage. It was a political decision to ensure Sinner's appearance.But in the final, he had the objective of securing his seventh year-end championship.

    • @TennisUnleashed

      Brave comment but there is no doubt Novak has tossed sets and matches the last few years when he chooses to do so. He did it against Musetti and Tsitsipas at the French as well.

    Beating an old Novak is considered a great achievement 😂 Modern medicine, training, nutrition, and etc have prolonged the careers of professional athletes, but still, I am frankly a bit disappointed by the inability of these young generation to beat Novak consistently. Which individual sport is still being dominated by a 36 year old?

    • @TennisUnleashed
      @TennisUnleashed  11 месяцев назад +1

      That’s a good point. I’ll say this about Novak though, he’s built differently from a mental standpoint. He hates to lose and he’s obsessed with being the greatest of all time. Tennis consumes him. In my opinion 36 year old Novak is better than 26 year old Novak in every area except pure footspeed.

      @@TennisUnleashed in 2020 Tokyo Olympics 90% of the athletes are under the age of 30. Obviously Novak has far more experience at the age of 36 compare to 26, but I wouldn’t say he only lost on pure foot speed, reaction, flexibility, power, endurance, and etc., they all decline. But one could also argue players like Alcaraz or Sinner hasn’t peaked yet physically either, since they are only in their early 20s.
      But yeah whatever Novak is doing to maintain his level of playing is simply remarkable. Tennis is not an equipment depended sport like a motor sport or equestrian, it’s a physically demanding sport but somehow he can still hang with the very best young generation.

      True. Djokovic averaged 85mph on his forehand early on in the match but that dropped to 81mph at the end of the first set. The ATP didn’t provide his average speed for the whole match. That’s why it was left out.
