Jordy, yes that heating is worth the effort if the cutting edge isn’t hurt. The process will harden the head of the bit. The fella in Pennsylvania did a video on his pickup mounted hoist and operated it just throwing out a idea, let me know if I can be of help

HEY JORDY, I work in a steel mill in the heat treat department. I basically strengthen steel that is sold for automotive and oil and gas use. You are, what they call, quinch and tempering, the bur..... sad part is I've never thought of doing it to my burrs. Great video Jordy. That will absolutely strengthen the steel and lengthen the life of the burr. Now you can definitely carve deeper.

Hi Jordy. Do you do this when the burrs are brand new or after youve used them for awhile? I just tried mine out. I was using the smallest one on same very thin 12x12 boards i got from amazon to do some very thin fret work. I didnt even get half wat through and the the blades are all but gone. 😢
I know they are cheap sets but im on a very restricted budget. Thanks for sharing this helpful tip. Looking forward to your answer. Thank you for taking the time to do these videos. I get alot out of them.

I would say you want to apply this process to new burrs. If youve used them and theyve gone blunt, this process wont sharpen them.
I heated up some burrs today and had a carving session with them, they've stayed sharp, they seem to have outlasted the standard burrs as they come.
