the reason for that is he has Shaq's stats because Shaq was actually in the Arcade edition but they couldn't get the rights to him for the home console so they just plugged Anderson in instead. Other games at this time he was also a beast from downtown (NBA Jam 95 he was unstoppable from down town).

Shaq only appeared in the Arcade version & Barkley didn’t appear in T.E. I hope I helped you, I always wanted MJ in NBA JAM. There’s a Old School Edition ROM Hack with Michael in it.
I can't find an exact release date but if this was released in 1993 so if it was late '93 it could have been after MJ "retired" and pursued baseball, or maybe they couldn't afford him.

Benoit Benjamin???? Almost any other player on the roster (the roster to at the start of 92-93) was a better fit. Ricky Pierce was still a great player. Derrick McKey was still good, as were Eddie Johnson, and Nate McMillan. Even Payton in 92, is a far better choice (GP's 92-93 season was where he turned the corner, in becoming a great player and team leader)! The Suns team was Barkley and Thunder Dan. Penny wasn't a rookie in the 92-93 season, but what is funny about the Magic duo is that Scott Skiles was picked over Nick Anderson, or Dennis Scott? I think either of them would've been a better addition to play with Shaq.
