The reason Battle Mania 3's subtitle, "Gankutsuou." seems so weird is because it's a reference to the Japanese name of The Count of Monte Cristo. The whole name functionally means something like "Battle Mania: New York Queen of the Cavern."
Having played and completed both HL and Blue Shift on the DC, I could handle the joypad controls, but the constant loading and loading delays, sweet jesus..
Such a shame the dreamcast didn't get the support it deserved, its a great console. Sega really dropped the ball. I totally agree, propeller arena is great fun. Great vid as ever mate.
Also Geist Force were cancelled due to Yuji Naka trying to use their engine for Sonic Adventure, real shame that we lost that game, and wait Glover 2 was planned for Dreamcast too?
Dreamcast is such a powerful and great console. I got one since day 1 and then ps2 came out but dreamcast was better i hated the motion blur of ps2. Sadly it had the better name since all this psx kiddies buy ps2 blind... sega drop the dreamcast way to early
Very interesting prospects for Dreamcast games! I found Agartha exciting when the first moody gameplay got available. The later finds with actual monsters in looked less interesting but it sounds like they had good ideas! Just one correction: I believe Infogrames were the ones to buy Atari, not the other way around. They decided Atari was a more recognisable name.
not if you're a uber driver and someone throws a dreamcast off a bridge and through your windshield, leading to being sued by a passenger and a loss of esteem in your own hometown
I'm mostly a Nintendo guy but also owned a dreamcast and it is sad this great console flopped and brought Sega to near bankruptcy. What do you mean with infogrames being absorbed by atari? Infogrames bought Atari and rebranded. I think the holding company is still named after it.
Some nice titles hear that it's a real shame didn't get released, especially when some seemed so close Agree Propeller Arena is great, would have liked to try Take the Bullet and the Treasure game looked great, for me though Scud Race is the big one, would have loved that and still would, criminal that's stuck in the arcade👍
Your timelines for Castlevania 1 and 2 are incorrect. Castlevania 1 takes place in 1691 and CV2 takes place several years later in 1698 with both starring Simon. CV3 takes place in 1476 which is Trevor's timeline while Sonia Belmont was born in 1433. This cancelled DC CV game takes place in 1666 which means it took place between CV1 and 3 before Simon went on his adventure.

Quark looks interesting and creative, Agartha kinda gave me d2 vibes, I definitely would've played both of those, also I heard that Sega would've put yakuza on the Dreamcast if it lasted longer, (wonder how that would've gone 🤔) it has some games that are also on ps2 so who knows.
Yeah, as its the progression of the Shenmue series in essence, it makes sense they would've continued it on the Dreamcast. Shame they gave up on the console so early.
Great stuff shame did not come to light I got question I own a ps5 and Xbox series x where can I play this cancelled games on my Xbox series x web browser ? Anyway keep up great work
I really really wish they made a Skies of Arcadia 2. I dont think it was ever on the drawning board but that game was so good. I replayed it not to long ago the gamecube version just to play it for fun and went from begining to end because it was such a trip down memory lane.
Well, in my country (Argentina) we could play Half Life in DC, so the cancellation didn't affect me. But the game was did hurt me was Heroes of Might and Magic III... The game was cancel at 80% for memory problems (the 3DO condition was an 1 to 1 game compared the PC version).A beta ISO exists in the internet.
Wow, can't believe at one point they actually planned to release Thunder Force VI for the console. I'm pretty sure the game would run really well. Great video as always
I read somewhere halo at one point was moved onto the dream cast either as an RTS game or third person game, who knows maybe there’s a build out there in first person before being shifted to Xbox
When I see '2024 Edition', I assume it's focusing on games discovered to have been concelled in the past year, not a retread of what already had been known over the previous twenty-three.
Some of them are here: www.sega-dreamcast-info-games-preservation.com/en/releases-prototypes-sega-dreamcast-iso But most you can find by searching the game name and "prototype Dreamcast".
Think Halo was only a consideration. BUNGIE said they were considering bringing it to PS2 but they'd just got a Dreamcast and thought it was a nice machine.
I think it was a waste how they made GTA 3 on Dreamcast yet never released it here. It's like they made it to the finish line then gave up anyway, you made it this far, why stop now?
Where is "here"? GTA 3 was never made on Dreamcast. At most they had a prototype as it was runoured to be worked on for about four months. Or did you mean GTA 2?
@@onaretrotip No the map for GTA 3 was fully developed on it, it's a fairly well known fact by many in the retro scene. But when the Dreamcast was cancelled in 2001, Rockstar approached Xbox for exclusivity, and when they turned them down due to poor sales of the first two entries, development moved over to the PlayStation 2.
By "here" I mean on Dreamcast since saying "they made GTA 3 on Dreamcast yet never released it on Dreamcast" is unnecessarily awkward and doesn't flow as well. I'm the lack of a second thumbstick would've proved hard for an open world game without tank controls, but Soul Reaver managed camera control just fine despite only one stick, so I'm sure DMA Design could've done so. Though considering the map, weapons and the like were already finished, it just seems like a wasted effort not to finish and release it there to me.
Poor Dreamcast. So, so many potentially great games that never saw the light of day.
To be fair there are still games being made for the Dreamcast, to this day, so there’s still potential.
Yeah, its early cancellation really doomed a lot of games. Good to see you at Revival mate!
Absolutely love this console, hopeful to see ports and many more new content in the future, cheers for the vid Pete!
Me too! Thanks, Luke. Hope you're well mate.

Yeah, a real shame. Tons of missed potential. So many games were canned when the console was discontinued early.
Thanks, David!
It’s criminal they never released Scud Race🤦♂️
It wouldn't of been nowhere near as good as the arcade. I'll play everytime on the model 3 emulator in 4k 60fps
I know, right. What a shame.
Your production quality has indeed improved over the years but you still need to work on not peeking the mic at the start of each segment
LOL True!
Also Geist Force were cancelled due to Yuji Naka trying to use their engine for Sonic Adventure, real shame that we lost that game, and wait Glover 2 was planned for Dreamcast too?

Fantastic! Love seeing these. It's interesting to hear the alleged reasons why they were cancelled. Quark seems really creative.
Yeah, Quark piqued my interest as Quantic Dream always do unusual things. Might've been an interesting one.
