After I over-tightened my tappet nut and I had to replace a rocker arm, I was almost about to give up and take my bike to the shop. Thank you so much for your videos. They helped me even when I accidentally messed up my cam timing. Without your channel I would be down a couple hundred dollars and feel like I didn't deserve to ride my bike. Seriously, thank you.
I was so looking forward to seeing this bike start up ... but you said it didn't, that's a shame :( Ripper Bones, thanks a lot for this series, it was awesome to see the inner workings of the top end ;)
hindsight is a wonderful thing. wish i had saw this video beforehand. i just snapped my camshaft tightening the bearing journals on my K9f ex 250 replacing the shims. maybe i got the cams mixed up or something. cost nearly $200 to order one from USA and at least 3 weeks downtim while i wait for the part
I got to this far to Part 5 of the Video and Dam you are a Master Mechanic. The Video Sure help me out allot. Thank you! and Btw "Like on the Beer Runner Joke" .. 🤣 Your Cool Man!
@Lee Powers. The Ninja 250 is different to most engines in the sense you get number two cylinder on compression (right hand cylinder), not number one. With number two on compression, you'll find the timing marks of the camshaft sprockets will be correct.
Wait! What about the start up? Great video though. It's amazing that you can get perfect video angles and perfect lighting with no camera man. I am doing a valve adjustment of a 4th generation Ninja 250 and this video makes me feel more comfortable doing it. So, what you're saying is that the intake and exhaust cam shafts were switched?
I'm in the military and am hoping to get back out to the East Coast to Jacksonville for my next station. I am going to have to stop by and have you do some work on my 96 GSXR 750 just because. Keep doing the videos cause they are definitely informative. Are you close to Miami? I have parents that live there. Could do a stop on the way if I can get back out that way.
Just a guess but I think when the cam chain slipped the pistons hit your valves which snapped all the rocker arms. I could be wrong but how else do you explain all 8 rockers broken?
Like the video. Maybe you can help. I have a 2006 250r and coolant will get in the oil within 20 min. Someone told me it was head gasket. Coolant leaks too fast to be water pump. What do you think. Thanks for your time.
would have loved to see it run, how did it go, she blow up or what? Thanks for the vids they have helped me a lot. I'm finding the repair manual a little confusing.
I just adjusted the valve clearances on my 2011 Ninja 250. The timing settings are pretty much the same as the 3rd generation 250s, slight differences. But when I positioned the exhaust cam so that the EX marking was lined with the engine head, the lobes of #1 cylinder pushed down on the lifters causing the shaft to raise up (yes, the lobes of #2 cylinder were facing away from each other as specified by the service manual). I didn't know how to solve this problem so I just tightened down the caps in sequence and have put 40 miles on the bike and it runs beautifully. Any thoughts on why the exhaust cam doesn't seat properly until the caps are tightened down? I know you mentioned that there were some stresses on the exhaust rocker arms when you installed the exhaust cam.
of course you try to compress the piston with your hand its hard , to avoid this you have to remove the spark plug so there will be no compression what will happen is air will be pushed outside the spark plug hole instead of compressing
Ive seen issue with machining.Did ya get any pics of that.I ve seen the plates switched also. But the motor will only work one way.Or in one !Direction! From the book and common sense going this deep into the bike most people should find a major discrepancy. As for the no exhaust I know dudes that had the motor turning backwards because they screwed up with the starter motor ground.Bike turned over but of course did not start. Gasoline engines need: air/fuel mixture(in), compression, and spark.
Shit hot videos. I love them all. You stopped at part 5 on this project....I have to know....did the new rocker arms fix the problem? or did the engine blow because of the two gear teeth that you found? If your going to make a part six video and so on...don't tell us...just tell us to wait for the updated video. Other wise tell us the end of the story. Thanks again!
to have all that knowledge would be amazing. your a true craftsman. I wish you would come back to RUclips hopefully your doing well and still working on bikes Iam sure your Burt out by now making vids. but thanks ripper.
Good video BUT you forgot the MOST important item Where is the OIL for the cam shaft bearings? Oil for the bearigs is far more important than puting oil on the rocker arms and valve heads dont you think. Do yo notice how none of the other comments picked up on this! Other than that an excellent video :)
hey guys i need ur help to repair my little ninja ,i already have all the new engine parts to assemble the engine but i really need to know how much torque must ne applied to the cranckshaft rods please help me .icant pay 35 for the manual just for this.

I'm having an issue trying to free spin to get to top dead center like something is keeping it from turning with socket and ratchet
of course you try to compress the piston with your hand its hard , to avoid this you have to remove the spark plug so there will be no compression what will happen is air will be pushed outside the spark plug hole instead of compressing
