Today I'll show you some ways of mixing ENOUGH paint in watercolor.
This is definitely something I struggled with a lot in the past.

Sometimes the stars align. Perfect timing. Will direct my students this way. Paint and water ratio is a skill that takes time and sometimes not easy to teach. You do it masterfully of course. Need bigger puddle? More water and paint… then it gets thin, so I say more paint. Then it gets thicker, I say more water etc and repeat until you get what you need. No instantaneous just add water perfection… sorry for pun…it takes a little work. I love how you also talked about how some pigments rewet easily and some are hard and fight back, which is of course another part of learning watercolours. What do your pigments do? Permanent Rose (WN), Winsor Violet, Hansa Yellow Medium ( Daniel Smith) , phthalo blues BANG lots of colour and easy. Dried up Winsor Lemon, not so much. I prefer to squeeze out fresh Winsor Lemon before I start. Etc etc. wonderful video whether or not one is a beginner. Thank you! 🙏

I paint with M. Graham because I love the soft paint on the pallet. I do tend to use too much paint and end up with shiny spots, but the matte varnish usually fixes those. I supplement with Daniel Smith, and I will say my Opera Pink dries like a rock. I hate it, but sometimes you need that pink zazz.

How do you prefer to set up your pallet? Warm colors in one compartment, cool in another or…? I haven’t found a consistent layout that I fill compartments in so I’m always guessing where colors are once they get messy on top.
Liron, I need help thinning my Apple Barrel and FolkArt paints. I'm having trouble mixing paint with water and it's difficult to make my paint thin.
I've just tried some Rosa Gallery paints. Most of my others are Sennelier so I'm used to their honey-filled paint staying soft for months in the well, but Rosa's Raw Umber feels like it's barely releasing any pigment. I'm scrubbing away at the dried well with a wet brush, sprayed water on it, the dried blob of paint dissolves away as I scrub at it, but there's barely anything on the brush... I've never used Raw Umber before - is it naturally a weak pigment, or is Rosa's just not very heavily pigmented? EDIT: Actually... the one you're trying at 4:30 looks a lot like my Rosa Raw Umber. Seems to take a lot of effort for you to get much out of it too. Feels like it's not about taking the time to reawaken it as it redries so fast it "shuts down" again really quickly.
Im told Rockwell watercolors are known for their sensitivity to water (high solubility).
I tend to be too timid.
Stupid question: are you using pans or tube paint in this session.
Not a stupid question at all! It looks like a custom palette where tube colours that have been squeezed out into the wells previously and allowed to dry. Hope that helps!
Your palette and colors always look so dark and dirty. How do you manage to still have such bright colors on the paper? Maybe I'm being too overcautious because I'm always very careful to keep the colors in the pans clear, unmixed and clean. But I've read so much about how the colors quickly become muddy if too many different pigments are mixed into them.
You’re supposed to use paint from the tube for large pieces.
