Love your videos man! I work up fitting police cars in Nashville and every one of metro Nashville's impalas play the bongos lol.
That's awesome - it's very much an Impala quirk.
ayy I just moved from the Nashville area. Metro beats the living shit out of their Impalas. You would think fleet management would spend the $30 to replace the actuator(s) but when it's a repeat failure for the whole fleet.. different story. I got my 9C1 from Fayetteville, NC. They put the 9C3 wheel covers on it and it never had a spotlight or lightbar which is nice. They happily sent it to auction with a ticking blend door actuator. When I pulled it, it was a Dorman part that had been replaced only a year earlier. I put in an ACDelco part for only $10 more than the Dorman and I'll bet it'll make it a whopping two years!
@@ES350gitgapped hey yeah I'm in lavergne I dont work for metro fleet I'm with a upfiter called on duty depot but we do all the work on metro that fleet doesnt do most fleet does is programming the equipment. Every single impala they have has that problem lol. We just recently started building their new explorers so they are slowly getting rid of the impalas.
For reference, on Tahoe PPVs the tag is inside the glove box
Update on the air door actuator. just got a call from the dealership and the mechanic reported that the actual air door was very tight. Almost to the point of being seized. so he freed it up and lubricated it before replacing the actuator. Sounds like it should be a maintenance item that could save having to do actuator replacements. the actuator itself is $78 Canadian. Hopefully with a freed up and lubed door it should outlast me.
great resource! thanks for sharing!!
I appreciate it!
Just look at the trunk! Only 9c1 and 9c3 have the trunk lock. 9c1 are the full police package and have everything. The 9c3 is the fleet version. I have a 2008 9c1 that was not a patrol vehicle and looks like a normal impala except for the truck lock.
The silver interior trim is also a big clue that it’s a 9C1/3.
True
Also when I start it up, it says Calibrated Speedometer on the message center before disappearing to whatever you have it set to.
One of the actuators on my F-150 is doing that. But no where near as much noise as yours.
Yeah, the Impala ones are special... and loud... and fail... a lot. LOL
What the difference between the police interceptor and a regular impala
front and rear stabilizer bars, heavier duty bushings, oil, power steering and transmission cooler ..17 in Wheels, heavier Duty frame ,a little bit more horsepower (3 )no gov limiter 140 mph plus maybe 154 tops..
that's just to start.......................6 second quarter mile ..9c1 is the police Cruiser /interceptor with the rubber floors,no carpet.. 9c3 quote unquote "detective package" is the full carpet both have extra heavy duty cushion in the seats, with stab proof shield behind driver's seat to protect from rear passenger attack..
Yeah my impala is making that stupid tampering noise.
I really like your videos. And I too have a 9c1! It's the best car ever. Anyway. Mine tops at 140 and so does your I was at the yard today and saw a poor 2006 Impala 9c1. So I look inside and it tops out at 220 mph on the dash !!!
Is their different versions of the engine I'm not privy too ? It was a 3.9 !
I feel like I'm not driving the best Impala now. Lol and I did take pics of the tag in the trunk
Cool stuff!
Thanks!
Your RPO list looks different than the one I found online. Could you post a link please? Also Got up Monday morning to the dreaded clicking as soon as the remote was used to unlock the doors. To top it off the battery which had never given me a hint of a problem didnt have enough juice to turn the engine over. Fortunately the parts store brought out a new battery and now the car is in the dealership so they can sort out both the clicking and the power drain.
Something I have noticed just in my own cars in the last few years - when the battery goes, it GOES. DEAD. No warning. In the "old days", a battery would give a gradual indication that it was time to start thinking about replacement. No more. Don't know if it's just me or something in the way batteries are constructed now.
@Ed Frawley - that came from a 2016 Impala PDF I have. I know I found it somewhere online, but I couldn't tell you where... might have been on an official Chevrolet page somewhere when I first starting researching the car back when I got it in 2016.
@@TheCopCar Ok thanks for the reply guess Im going to have to buckle down and do some more research.
Wow, my Impala doesn't have any of those numbers. I bought a plain old Impala limited from the police auction
That should still be a fun car. Another easy way to tell, if you don't have access to the trunk, most of the police models have a column shifter.
@@TheCopCar I do have a column shifter. I took out a large siren bolted under the hood. I have a plug on the trunk. I did find FLT on the codes which is fleet processing option. I did send you a picture of my codes on your Instagram page
Ah awesome
Thanks!
Great info.
Are the police struts heavier duty than the regular ones?
I have a w body with 16 in wheels and I want to use the police struts.
Not sure if they will fit
By any chance does anyone know if the 2006 9c3 8c1 has side curtain air bags? Thx
Where did you get that diagram 1:14
So if it has neither of those #s it’s not a police package ?
If it has a lock on the trunk, or a console shifter, it is one of the police models.
So is there no way to check a Chevy cop package by the VIN, like the Ford P71?
The dealership will have access to that info.
@@edfrawley4356 so is that a "no" on reading the info from the VIN?
Yes if you run your vin it will say police vehicle I have an 2014 impala 9c1 also
@Jerry Jenkins - I just did a little research, looks like the 4th and 5th VIN digits denote the type of vehicle - for my model year (2010) if those digits are "W" and "D" that denotes Impala Police. These digits seem to change from year to year. For a 2011 it's "M" and "K", for 2006 it's "W" and "S" - so they didn't make it simple like Ford did, but it's there.
@@TheCopCar Thanks for looking into it!
Ah man it's make that noise again
Yessir, I think this is the one you just changed on yours. Sounds like it's coming from the driver side.
@@TheCopCar my mechanic charged me $75
@@commanderhall848 Wish I had your mechanic. My Chevy dealership charged me $220 just for a new battery. Im afraid what the final bill is going to come to.
@@edfrawley4356 woah that's ridiculous
I check but there was no sticker there how else can I find out ?
Lock in trunk
Crown vic >>>> impala
