Been playing EVE for years, it is fun but a totally different type of game that people might expect. I played solo for months, doing exploration then I ran into a random pirate who was willing to let me go if I considered joining them. 3 years later, I've been exploring nullsec with my pirate friends for years.
Really? That's very interesting. Most pirates are willing to let you go for an isk payment (most good ones adjust that up or down, depending on how old the toon is). Never heard of that happening before. If you're still with that group, give them props. Closest thing like that to ever happen to me was getting blown up and poded in low sec, THEN getting an invitation to join a WH corp. I really like that.
A quick word for new players in Eve, whatever you do during career training that you think would be a good career just go for it. Nobody ever ends up doing the same career they started with, there is so much to do that slowly as you skill up will fit into doing another career as well. I started just doing small missions and salvaging, then thought, I've got all this salvage loot, why not make some rigs with it. Next I decided I wanted to do T2 rigs so started doing exploration to go get more advanced parts i needed, and from there I am now in a position, 15 years on, I come online, do my PI, set up what manufacturing I need to do then shoot off and set up my blueprint copying, and a bit of research then back to exploring. There is no end to what you can learn to do in Eve, mainly I didn't think to do all these things, they just sort of clicked as I played. Eve is not a game you learn in 2 days and finish in a month, its a game that you should be thinking years down the line and make sure you have fun doing it, either solo or with friends. Now I've rabbited on much longer than intended I will just say enjoy yourself and fly safe.
It's great game for nerds. I still remember my first couple weeks in game, the amount of new stuff to learn is just incredible. I was spending more on the wiki/ reading ship and item descriptions than actually playing
_"I was spending more on the wiki/ reading ship and item descriptions than actually playing"_ - That's actually so relatable for me, I don't play eve yet but im planning too and im already doing a hell of a lot of research on the wiki lol
Just started playing a few days ago, i got my first ten enforcer missions done and got a Rifter. I was so excited to pilot it i realized i never learned how to fit my ship or set charges to my turrets, etc haha 😂 i lost my Rifter to some NPC on my first Security mission because i was defenseless and i got genuinely mad haha 😅 i decided to stick with my Slasher and learned to fit it and everything. Now i feel like ive gotten the hang of hangar basics. Figuring out how to repair/replace charges was honestly the hardest part for me as stupid as that sounds.
Hi, I was among the first 20ish to join CSKL but left EE after a while because I didn't like the direction it was taking I very recently picked up EO, and just like with your guides for EE, your guides for EO are very helpful and intuitive!
I rember launching EO many years ago and just feeling very overwhelmed at the time. I'm working up to giving it another go and while the game might be more friendly to new players now than it may have been back when I tried it for the first time, I believe this video will be immensely helpful in overcoming the initial apprehension, should I re-experience those same feelings. Thank you! I'll be sure to subscribe and check out more of your videos.
If you end up giving it a go HMU ASAP!! I also had a ruff start on eve before quitting but recently picked it back up and it has sucked me in! I'm enjoying it so much and would love to play with you if you do end up playing!
EE broke me - just started playing EO (again) last week and already having a great time. Exploration is so much better in EO. Thanks for the great video!!!
I am a cannoneer and miner/shipbuilder to heart, what I was in Echoes as well, so i would go that way in EO. At least i know what I want to do with myself, before I even started to play the game :D
I was nul sec miner in EO and stopped 4y ago, was thinking of fixing a go in EO now, you think the experience on mining is alike in both? I really liked mining, lots of people find it boring but I don't know, for me it was so relaxing.
Hy Benzie! I come from EE also and now thinking of going to EO....it just isn't fun anymore in echoes.... In your last video of eve echoes you mentioned a Tristan and ADS, and all of a sudden, I felt a spark. So....I want to start in EvE Online, and it's all because of your videos! Thank you very very much for this, and I support you by any means I can! Don't stop this, your support for us, the community is awesome!
EVE Online is huge, but you don't need to take it all in at once. Try things, sample it, then find something you enjoy! Can always try other things later!
I think CCP has done a good job getting the new player on board over the years. Like I got a new guy in my corp ( he joined the game/corp because he knows another corp mate in person) and after a few days he leaned how to mine in high sec with a decent setup, and do easy tier 1 missions. I remember during my first stint of playing EVE during the Trinity expansion CCP would just throw you into the game with no explanation about anything and hope for the best 😅
Of course, but it does provide a starting point. Many new players will start with whatever they choose and then train up from there. I've spoken to many new folks who "Chose Amarr and now don't fly Caldari because they already trained Amarr skills and Armor" so it's something to consider early on.
Bloodlines, together with your Ancestry, used to determine your character’s stats and skills. Achura, when they were added, had the lowest charisma of any bloodline. This was before you could respec btw, so if your character started with say int/mem you would simply train all ships skills slower, forever.
@@captainbenzie Yeah, EVE had a lot of quality of life changes over the years. For example, there used to be 10+ "learning skills" that boosted your stats, so if you were min-maxing you'd spend months training those first. There used to not be a skill queue, so if your skill finished at 2 am you had to log in and start a new one. We didn't have warp to zero (it was like autopilot), so people made W2Z bookmarks for gates in entire regions and then sold these, and the server lag caused by the insane amount of bookmarks being copied is actually what made CCP change it. Funny to think that if some of these things were brought back most of the player base would probably leave xD
What if you want to do the career missions again??...... I've had a break from eve for about 5 years but my character is still available which is great but would really like to do the starter missions to get back upto speed.
Open the Agency and search for Career Agent Missions. Every faction has three sets so you can theoretically do them a total of twelve times, getting a load of ships, fittings, ISK, and reputation every time!
As someone that played EO back in the 2004-2006ish timeframe and is debating coming back I request an opinion: is it worth it to try and recover my account from back then, or is it long since hacked and gone forever and just start fresh?
Depends what you had on the account! Honestly, I started a new character from fresh last year just to be able to make "new player" content and I've never gone back.
If you know your login credentials you should try to log on because having a new account means you start with 1m skill points with a referral link so its best to log in to old account.
Continuing from the previous video and comment. Just checked and I still have account from 10 years ago that played only for like a month. Caldari selected back then, but have no idea will I reactivate it fully :D I might after this video.
I don't have my old old pvp character from 13+ years ago but I do have my old industrial one sitting on a small 2b isk. I guess that will help Jumpstart my character a bit
Some of us Star Cats tried to go over to EO a few months ago, but never got the momentum. I've been in Eve University for awhile. But I am really looking for like minded folks to okay with. Is Castskull still doing an EO thing?
We are, yes! You'll find the application in my Discord, and don't forget to grab 1m free SP with my referral code (works on existing accounts too) both are in the description 😊
Yes and no. Some skill books are found as loot and tradable for ISK, usually cheaper than they are in the Browser. Some skills (notably all the Triglavian stuff, for example) is still exclusive to books. But let's be fair, having to fly around and find all the books for basic ship and functions wasn't too fun 😅
Thank you for doing this video! I'm currently watching the video so I'm not sure if you've mentioned it but they also have Eve online anywhere which allows players to play Eve online through a browser as well. It will work on your smartphone, however I haven't been successful with getting it to run on 4G. Maybe 5G is better or your home internet obviously. But it is an option for people who want to keep it on their phone but play Eve online. However I would recommend a tablet since everything will be incredibly tiny.
I played long time ago, back when you had to pay, lol. I removed it from my computer since I knew it would just sit and eat up space. If I choose to get back into it, will my ships and all still be there? if I can recall my log in info that is lol.
Make sure to do the tutorial and then ALL of the Career Agents that are available right at the start. Don't go off exploring til that's all done. You'll have ships, modules, ISK, and most importantly, knowledge.
Great series of videos - thank you. I am confused about how to set up filters. My set-up seems to show rats in the listing but not on the grid. Sometimes they show up on the grid as big red triangles.. sometimes as tiny white blips. Have you made a video about filter set-ups already? Thanks in advance - Fly Safe 07 Gelid Frost
I haven't yet, but it's a topic to cover!! I use the Signal Cartel default. You can find it here: wiki.signalcartel.space/Public:Signal_Cartel_Overview_Pack
Great video. I wish I had a video like this when I started back in 2011. However, to make a starter video is difficult because there’s so much to go over. Since you make video that have a large EE following you should have mentioned briefly that missiles in EO are much MUCH better than EE. What ship are you looking forward to fly?
I ve played eve for som years, do you know some corps from null or wh that recluit membres whith experience in the game, my native language is spanish but i want to change to improve my English skils
Just started today and went with enforcer minmatar since I think missiles and cannons would be pretty cool. I'm in it for the action and aesthetics so yeah keep the content coming 😁
I clicked on the tutorial and I got nothing LMFAO I was kinda confused but for short I spent 4 hours looking at all the stuff doing mining a bit and crafting a ship Thi game is VERY FUN even if I don't know what I am doing
Hopefully I can help! Make sure to use my referral link in the description to get yourself 1 million free skill points (even on existing accounts), check my other videos, and come join our Discord! We'll be more than happy to help however we can!
Eve Online is completely different from Echoes, although you will have an easy understanding of a lot of terms and names when playing as a migrant to EO. You will have a better base than an average newbie
I just logged back in to Eve. After 10 years. I don't even know where to start. All of my spreadsheets are gone. I have billions in ISK and almost 60 million skill points. I am so lost... Does anybody have a solid few videos I could go and watch or a single poster that I could go look and do a complete and total refresh with? All of a sudden I'm sort of overwhelmed. But really really want to get back into this. Started my character at the beginning of 2008.
Nobody is going to have a single full video for.your needs as EVE is huge with different content, and it all depends what you want to do, and what you remember. I'd strongly recommend finding a good corporation aligned with your needs, they'll help! Also, make sure to use the AIR Career Program, and AIR Opportunities, and Agency tabs to help find content. I do have a whole TONNE of videos on here about different aspects of EVE, and if there's anything in particular you're stuck with, I'm always looking for new content ideas!
Hey Benzie great content long time watcher. But you might want to mention when ever you create a new account you can get 1 million skill points free with a link. I'm sure u know this but might want to mention it and add ur link. Great job keep doing what you're doing.
6:08 It's so sad they scrapped the station walking. Instead of scrapping it, I would have loved to see them develop it further, making it a more integral part of the game.
Wish i would have chosen minmatar. Just crossed half the galaxy to get a rifter blueprint. I can't defect gallante to join minmatar right? would be great to after some religious zealots... :P
Your starting race only sets your starting area, a handful of starting skills that are easy to train out of, and your character's appearance. You can absolutely fly to wherever, train whatever, and fly whatever 😊 I'm a Minmatar character with skills in all subcapital ships, and I fly literally everything and anything! I'll undock a Vagabond or Vargur for ratting, a Drake for PvP, a Gila for Abyssals, I've joined the Gallente and Caldari Militia, and flown alongside the Angels and Guristas in faction warfare
Hey cap, I was going through your video about netease and ccp and the whole licensing thing you uploaded around 9 days ago, I just have one question, I left playing ee for over a year now because, I'll be honest, it just felt like a cash grab and i believe it still is, now onto the question, what if players start leaving and the game eventually dies? Will CCP eventually step in and change the publisher because from your video it seems like they want echoes to continue. Thanks and have a good day O7
@@captainbenzie got it, it's been a year and i miss my typhoon :( I was thinking about transitioning to Eve online and being an echoes refugee, it's hard. This is the exact video i needed, thanks for this video and In rust, we trust O7
Benzie, finally you got me. I definitely will have a look into EO during the weekend. Thanks! In terms if ship classes, do all the classes havea bit of content? Meaning, in ee Destroyers are useless. Is this the case in EO as well?
Eve can really take over your life! At one stage some years ago I would mine ice to make money it got to the stage I would mine belt after belt and only sleep between the belt respawn times. I made a lot of isk but I don't mine ice anymore 😆
Thanks for the video. If I were to start playing Eve Online, is there any downside to using the Steam version of the game? As that would probably be my preferance. Also, how much of the game can you play without a subscription? I find €20 a month to be a *very* steep price for a subscription, even if I do end up enjoying the game alot.
Thank you so much for this video! I learned tons about eve echoes from your channel and I’m happy to see I won’t have to go into Eve Online blind. I’ve always been intimidated by the infamous learning curve; and am so happy to see it’s not as bad as it seems and that there’s room for us filthy casuals now! Cheers!
@@captainbenzie There is no undo. There is only training the other faction. And you can't really know ahead which you will favour so just growing in all factions is the best choice until you do.
With all the p2w stuff I level ee months ago a few weeks ago I started up eo. I found I was mainly playing ee when I was at home anyway so it's Bern great so far. Going with missles this time though
Sup, Benzie. I've been watching lots of your videos since my start in EE and now that I watch this EO one, I've wondering... How could I contact you or your corp to join in EO? I believe I wouldn't last long by myself and I would like a nice community to spend my casual time in.
I gave this game an honest shot. Played for a few weeks and saved enough to earn my first mining ship just to get ganked and have it destroyed in mere seconds. Literally ruined my new player experience to the point where sadly I will not be returning to the game. I understand the allure of the game and why people enjoy it. However the new player experience is terrible, people in the community are cavalier and aren’t willing to answer questions.
For skill training. I highly recommend you stick with frigates and destroyers for a long time. Get mastery 4 on a ship before you even consider moving on. He said to just move up the ship tree which is wrong. Youll be flying a billion dollar ship at mastery 1 getting blown up by 1 frigate at mastery 4. Take pride in flying a high mastery frigate. You're a dangerous little ship. Bigger is not better.
Mastery is a freaking pointless system. This is really bad advice and ignores so much of what folks want to do. Cool. Specialise in Destroyers for MONTHS so you can do (checks notes) L2 Agent Missions or C1 Wormholes. Or... And hear me out here... Or you could rush up to Battlecruisers and in less than a month be running C2/3 wormholes and L3 missions or DED sites in Nullsec. You're coming from a PvP perspective and acting like that's god's advice. It's not. Find the content you want to do, pick a ship that can do it, and go for that ship. Did a whole video on just that concept.
Wait, since when did people call EVE EO? Even when Echoes launched we knew the difference and just called one EVE and one Echoes. 🤨🙄 Must be the new crowd.
I started playing EVE Online back in 2013 and the crew I used to fly with then, including the guy I lived with who taught me, all called it EO. Certainly that's absolutely the standard in Echoes too. We call Echoes EE, and EVE Online EO.
@Captain Benzie Interesting! Great vid regardless, just surprised me. Dust514 was just Dust, too, much how it ended, haha. Been on and off since 2009 myself. Nice to see another old timer still with it. I find a lot of the newer 'accessibility' more annoying and still think it was better back in the day. I guess it's common for older guys to hate change though, lol. What do you prefer though, current EVE or old EVE? Also, still watching and haven't seen it mentioned with your character creation yet, but is FW still a thing? Easier for new players to choose a factionthey might wanna fight as in FW, since missions etc will affect standings, possibly of a faction they decide to want to play later? Or do standings not need to be above 0.0 any more? I haven't played since 2020.
@@traversal6881 Ah, I miss Dust! For me, personally, EVE has honestly never been as good as it is now. It just works and the recent changes to help new players have brought a big new influx of players. Faction Warfare literally this month just got a huge update and is ridiculously popular now. Lowsec is a warzone and it's frankly amazing. Standings are still a thing, but relaxed, and you no longer need to drop Corp to participate.
That sounds good. I might jump back in for a bit and see what's up. Do you remember who the guy was doing all the political content on YT? He was the main channel (IIRC) putting up updates on the Panfam vs Goon wars and sov changes across the galaxy each month. I miss those and can't recall for the life of me.
i think the game cannot be played until you get 90 days skills training or use real money the game is good but the system is quite focused on getting addicted dectated to something that it's not real that what i don't like about this game
I hard disagree. There's so much to do early that really doesn't require skills. EVE is big. Try everything. You need to learn to walk before you run in any one playstyle
@@captainbenzie first i tought i would not get answered but i thank you for your respond im not gonna lie the only thing got me irritated is playing alone i think this is also got me to that conclusion .mybe a i should do as you said change my playstyle

I played long time ago, back when you had to pay, lol. I removed it from my computer since I knew it would just sit and eat up space. If I choose to get back into it, will my ships and all still be there? if I can recall my log in info that is lol.
They certainly should be! Give it a go!
Gallentes favorite weapons are rail guns? 🤔
And drones
Thinking about giving this game a try👀
Give it a go!
@@captainbenzie Downloaded the game.. Now trying to start playing it😥
i decided to play eve online on my potato laptop with minimum graphics. watching the whole series
Good luck!!
I start playing it yesterday but I always get killed and destroy my ship.. I don't have any wepon it's
Make sure to do the tutorial and then ALL of the Career Agents that are available right at the start. Don't go off exploring til that's all done.
You'll have ships, modules, ISK, and most importantly, knowledge.
@@captainbenzie sure I will do like that thnxs for your help
Great series of videos - thank you.
I am confused about how to set up filters. My set-up seems to show rats in the listing but not on the grid. Sometimes they show up on the grid as big red triangles.. sometimes as tiny white blips. Have you made a video about filter set-ups already?
Thanks in advance - Fly Safe 07

I haven't yet, but it's a topic to cover!! I use the Signal Cartel default. You can find it here: wiki.signalcartel.space/Public:Signal_Cartel_Overview_Pack
I would be a Gallente or Minmitar because of my principles. I wonder why they aren't united.
They sort of are. The Gallente helped the Minmatar a lot with freeing slaves from the Amarr, but they remain separate entities.
@@captainbenzie Let's be honest. There's only one way Eve Online's story can actually end.
How is missiles different in eo?
I literally just started, perfect time to upload this mate
I ve played eve for som years, do you know some corps from null or wh that recluit membres whith experience in the game, my native language is spanish but i want to change to improve my English skils
You say eve echoes refugees, but I started in eve echoes in Catskull, and recently got into Eve online and love it! Thanks Benzie!
certified eve echoes refugee here.
Welcome home!
Echoes refugee is spot on mate
Just started today and went with enforcer minmatar since I think missiles and cannons would be pretty cool. I'm in it for the action and aesthetics so yeah keep the content coming 😁
I notice he didn't mention anything about the Magic 14 skills i have heard so much about
I've done an entire video on those.
Cheers CB, quite helpful
Glad to help!
I clicked on the tutorial and I got nothing LMFAO
I was kinda confused but for short I spent 4 hours looking at all the stuff doing mining a bit and crafting a ship
Thi game is VERY FUN even if I don't know what I am doing
Hopefully I can help! Make sure to use my referral link in the description to get yourself 1 million free skill points (even on existing accounts), check my other videos, and come join our Discord! We'll be more than happy to help however we can!
As an eve echoes refugee tell me what’s different about eve online
Mention to the 1Mill Skill Points link would be a nice starter tip.
Fair point! It's in the description though
my friend was complaining that the controls are too complex, i said to him "you have seen nothing"
It's confusing at first because folks are expecting simple joystick, I think, but it actually ends up more simple over time.
yes at first the controls was like the same thing at first when i played the game after a few weeks i know what to use.@@captainbenzie
First maybe! Man, to be a complete beginner in Eve Online again...
Race does not matter. It only matters for 3 days worth of training just pick what you like.
"Duct tape and Good Wishes" 🎉
😂
If you want a good start do all the tuturials in all 3 systems :).
Yup
I started a few days ago as caldari (exclusively for the sexy ships) currently have 3mil isk and a couple nice ships, am mostly solo mining for now
A decent start, good luck!
is this still up2date? Also can you play this game only pve ?
Yes, up to date. And no, you are ALWAYS under threat of PvP. That risk is what makes EVE, EVE.
Imagine this being the 'biggest' MMO you can play today, then ASCII comes bussin' with Sword Art Online
Hey cap,
I was going through your video about netease and ccp and the whole licensing thing you uploaded around 9 days ago, I just have one question, I left playing ee for over a year now because, I'll be honest, it just felt like a cash grab and i believe it still is, now onto the question, what if players start leaving and the game eventually dies? Will CCP eventually step in and change the publisher because from your video it seems like they want echoes to continue.
Thanks and have a good day O7
@@captainbenzie got it, it's been a year and i miss my typhoon :(
I was thinking about transitioning to Eve online and being an echoes refugee, it's hard. This is the exact video i needed, thanks for this video and In rust, we trust O7
Any news on Project M5 yet? Like what kind of game is it? Mobile? PC? What genre is it?
Thank you captain o7 can’t wait to try the game when it releases.
is the discord locked? Do i need an emoji?
Do you meet players online often?
All over the place!
Benzie, finally you got me. I definitely will have a look into EO during the weekend. Thanks! In terms if ship classes, do all the classes havea bit of content? Meaning, in ee Destroyers are useless. Is this the case in EO as well?
@@captainbenzie Perfect. Thanks. Will have a look into your eo Content as well.
Could you create a playlist with the EO content, please? Would be helpful to find the dedicated EO Videos on your channel.
@@captainbenzie damn, you are right. Sorry. See you.
Eve can really take over your life! At one stage some years ago I would mine ice to make money it got to the stage I would mine belt after belt and only sleep between the belt respawn times. I made a lot of isk but I don't mine ice anymore 😆
The ice must flow.
EO is way more fun than EE, Hope to have more video on it :) ! Keep going captain
Started in EO like EE for the mobility, but EO has evolved so much. Miss my T3 Loki and Wolf. o7
@@captainbenzie Cheers! ^_^
It does have the option to pay plex...but as an alpha it will be a grind for a bit. Sometimes they do offer discounts though
Controller player-
This game has to be played with mouse and key? Does it require much skill because I'm terrible with mnk
Absolutely mouse and keyboard but it's mostly clicking menus (or using keybinds)
Benzie:
Feb 8: EE is hopeless
Feb 10: its not too late for EO
Time to switch.
Eve University is extremely hard to join ... unless you are an actual University student which obviously helps ....
Yes iam a eve echoes Refugee ... Its so sad but true
Welcome to EVE Online! Make sure to grab 1 million SP using my link below and Catskull is always hiring if you're looking for a corporation!
Cheers!
thanks but video chapters would be an improvement here.
I think you oversold a bit the race selection. It only influences your first one or two weeks maybe, after that it is basically irrelevant.
@@captainbenzie Great, on it!
best character creation in any MMO, but you will never see your char in game, ever!
Yup 😂
Sure you can be a casual player, they always need more sheep to feed to the wolves
Casual doesn't mean stupid 😉
If you are a new player, please find yourself a corp that can actually teach you the basics of the game.
Catskull is doing exactly that! Link in my description.
From guy who cant play the game please make more gameplay o7
@@captainbenzie thank you
Yep.. Time to switch to a better EVE.. Thanks benzie!! Also some tips to do exploring properly?? XD
@@captainbenzie already did captain, thanks a lot for the link!!
Do you have a corp capt. Benzie? I want to join :D
Im in discord channel 😊 I already have an old Account on Eve Online
Well well let me get a desktop
@@captainbenzie Nevermind, I remembered the YT channel I was thinking of - Jin'taan. Always interesting to see the wars going. Miss being in Panfam.
Are you the same guy from trekculture?? Your speech patterns are identicle..
No, that's not me 😅

i think the game cannot be played until you get 90 days skills training or use real money the game is good but the system is quite focused on getting addicted dectated to something that it's not real that what i don't like about this game

You have 2 boxes, both ticked in the top right corner you silly buns. You can even make the smaller. Any other elements of the uiyou should close. Half the tutorial was about closing windows so you better remember how lol

There are no casual players in eve online.
Even mining in high sec has a risk of suicide ganks and griefing.
