I watched some documentary on Hudson years ago and at one point he described way more than just a few hookups with sailors too and after he was diagnosed and thought back to those secret hookups,he stated how he/it felt really filthy about the things he had done with such a large number of males.I don't discriminate against the gay community,but the biggest issue I had with them up to the early 80's was how after learning of the hiv/aids illness that had started ravaging their community, instead of helping the medical community,society and even their own communities by becoming abstinent &/or changing their entire sexual behavior to try to at least shrink the newly infected numbers & not add anymore cases,they chose to continue with the same behavior.They just weren't willing to give up their gy relations and the disease basically tookover.
For anyone interested in seeing the beginning stages of the epidemic, what the medical community discovered & what the govt did/did not do,And The Band Played On & The Normal Heart are two great movies to watch.

Phyllis Gates worked as a secretary to Henry Willson, who was Rock's agent/manager, and he was also gay. Willson's sexuality was well known within the Hollywood community, however he wasn't openly gay. It was said that Phyllis was gay or bisexual herself, and Willson insisted on Rock getting married due to the persistent rumors about his sexuality; as well as Confidential magazine threatening to publicly out him. Willson arranged the marriage between Phyllis and Rock. Of course, the marriage was doomed from the start, and it eventually ended in divorce a few years later. It was referred to as a "Lavender" marriage. Lavender marriages were prevalent in Hollywood since its inception, and they're still prevalent today. Rock took a big financial hit after the divorce. I recommend the HBO documentary "All That Heaven Allowed", which is about Rock Hudson's life, career, and AIDS battle. It's excellent.
