Man that is so much crazier than the recorded version 50 years ago. Great to see the 'old boy' playing with Hawkwind one more time. Absolute legend!

I saw Hawkwind do this when it first came out in 1972 I think. It was in concert at some small coastal town in Norfolk England. This was before they became really famous. Lemmy came out in to the audience and sat on the floor practically next to me (no seating in the place it was that classy) while the support band was on. He was using two large marbles rolling them round in his fingers the whole time. I guess to exercise his playing hand before going onstage. It was quite a night, I remember them playing Silver Machine of course. A Brilliant memory.

Lemmy was the man, and that Rickenbacker signature 4004LK he plays is the best looking bass I've ever seen. I miss knowing that he's out there. RIP.

Peter Hook tells a story that they (new order) went into studio to record and the desk settings look strange. Hooky said leave it I’m plugging in to see who and what they were doing. Hit a chord & nearly blew his eardrums, needless to say Lemmy was the previous occupant.

This is when Hawkwind were at their best. A proper Rock band. Lemmy still owes me a couple of pints. I guess I may have to wait a while to collect on them. He did say he would have stayed with Hawkwind if they hadn't kicked him out. Motorhead were great too.
I see Lemmy sing Johnny be good with inner city unit. Best version of that song I've ever experienced. I doubt if it's on record but wish it was. Great times.

Chris Farlowe, the great, unique, bluesy voice of Colloseum, Atomic Rooster and many others made a more steady living from collecting and selling WWII memorabilia (especially the Nazi's stuff, whom he hated) than he ever did from his wonderful vocals (and this was the guy who famously ate a pastrami on rye sandwich while singing on the video for Atomic Rooster's "Black Snake"!)

Dave Brock has always had his own plan for Hawkwind. It isn't necessarily a linear one - then again, Dave IS a hippie, bless him. Hawkwind could have been a "big"British band, but very obviously Dave wasn't seeking that. But for old Hawkwind fans, the Brock/Lemmy/King/Turner (or Calvert/Dettmar/Stacia) band will always BE " Hawkwind. That said, it was over 40 years ago, so all praise to Dave for at least keeping the spirit alive.

Guys, this is actually tuned UP half a note! That means that the young Lemmy back then didn't sing this song as high up as this older version of Lemmy. That's quite impressive given that the older the vocalists get the further down they tune their songs to save their voice/due to vocal restraints etc. Lemmy!

    • @thefreedomguyuk

THE BEST thing that ever happened in R&R next to CBerry, Little Richard, Elvis, Beatles, RAMONES, & Sex Pistols is Lemmy getting canned by Hawkwind! Another Old Metalhead thanks you Lemmy for going solo. Your influence helped make my life enjoyable. YOU affected virtually every band I have supported over the years.
    THANK YOU, Sir...

You'd have probably seen me in the crowd at many Hawkwind gigs in the mid-80's
I was the guy with the long hair and the beard, that must ring a bell :-)))
I was never into any of the politics or hippy stuff, I'm a biker and I just like good rock music and getting wasted.
I think I did most of the dates on the 'Chronicle Of The Black Sword' tour for free, I'd turn up on my bike and beg for a place on the guest list while they were setting up. Happy days, long gone ;-)

There’s only one person owning that stage and it isn’t any regular members of Hawkwind

I never saw a band or gig featuring Lemmy where he didn't own the stage.

It's quite logical as he's the guest star for one song on this show and was the original singer of the song.

In the early 70 Lemmy was a regular with Hawkwind, until he was fired anyway.

Iam 54 and this is a first for me, seeing Lemmy performing with Hawkwind as I know that he detested them and felt much more at home with the likes of MC5, The Damned, Vice Squad etc

Celtic Warrior Lemmy definitely did not hate Hawkwind. He said in his autobiography that he would have stayed with them forever if they hadn’t sacked him. Fate took over however and Motörhead were born. Praise be 🙏🤘

Sorry for the advert: if you like vintage Hawkwind, you may like this:
    brotherhoodofthemachine.bandcamp.com/album/trip-hazard
The album is fully previewable on Bandcamp as has been described as "Hawkwind meet Tangerine Dream in a lift".
