I really enjoy your vlogs...Jess and Chris. 😊
I'm just a 63 year-old Brit, with grown-ups kids, and two beautiful twin grand-daughters, and watching your videos reminds me of two things...
1. When my kids were younger, like yours, and we would have lovely family days out together.
We obviously don't do that anymore...now they have their own families...and I miss it SO much 😔
Treasure these days Jess and Chris...they will soon be flying the nest 😢
And...
2. How much we...everyone really...takes things in our own country for granted.
But...watching your videos is like seeing it all anew...through fresh eyes.
So...thank you Jess, Chris, and family.
You are lovely people. 😊
You’re so right about seeing through fresh or new eyes.
We are so glad and absolutely a love sharing with you all. Thank you so much for your love and support! We appreciate your time and love. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Driving throught the heart of England, listening to the 1812 overture... Pure Bliss :)
Can we have Ride of the Valkyries next time 😀
Thanks for watching. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Hi guys, my biggest congratulations to Shane and Colette on your educational achievements this year. 😍 really well done and please may I be the first to wish Shane a very happy Birthday when it arrives. 🎂 Loving the idea of taking a trip to work with you Jess and the prospect of another vlog being added to your channel sounds absolutely fabulous and as a tea drinker your channel is definitely my cup of tea. 🥰 Thanks again for another great road trip and your videos always make my day.
Happy Thursday my friends. ♥
Oh, Shane and Colette said thank you so much! We're so proud of them.
We're so happy to be your cuppa. I look forward to this new little VLOG to gibe you all a glimpse into what I do for fun and to help a friend at her shop. Happy Thursday, friend! Cheers 🤍 Chris, Shane, Colette & Jess
Kettering is a Town that is absolutely, utterly, unremarkable by any metric.
A Marstons (I believe) Pub/Carvery that may be more up your street is the Trading Post. It used to have Western paraphernalia, Saddles, Bridles, as a backdrop, hence "The Trading Post".
You are fortunate that other than the roads in, it has roads out as well!
Thank you so much for sharing the wonderful information. We really appreciate your time. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Unremarkable? Bit harsh
I'm loving your video's - so different and showing off all of UK's wonderfully green countryside. Watch out for the 'Pot-Holes' though, there seem to be plenty of them.
We are so thankful you are enjoying the videos and so thankful to have you watching and riding along with us. We appreciate your time and kindness! Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Nice choice in music. Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. And The Phantom Pee-er @13:39!
The car you passed @22:09 looked like a 1960s Austin Hillman Minx Deluxe.
Thank you for the lovely comment and support. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
The 'power-lines' in the Town, guys, were telephone lines. Most power cables are underground...remote areas excepted.
Where I live in Surrey, we have it the other way around - overhead electricity to the house but phone cables underground!
Thank you both for sharing! We appreciate your time watching and leaving us this insightful information. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
They are not power lines but phone lines , power line in the UK are mostly underground in towns and such 😊😊
I was going to say the same as only in some rural parts do power lines run from pole to pole, usually down the edge of a road untill they cross a road or hit a pylon.
Thank you so much for sharing the inside. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Come to Japan... OMG they can't bury power lines underground because of all the earthquakes, so that means they are nearly all above ground, and it is ugly as sin.
Hi Jess & Chris have you been to Cromer yet? The drive alone the north Norfolk coastline from Cromer to Wells next the sea is a fantastic drive with loads of scenery. Wells beach is lovely to visit and if you go further up from Wells next the sea you have Holkham beach well worth a visit & apposite side of the road from parking at Holkham beach you have Holkham Hall & deer Park which you can walk up to the Hall & see the wild deer herds. So many beautiful spots along the coast Weybourne beach were you can walk along cliffs also Brancaster beach is pretty cool too
Always appreciate all of your insight and recommendations. It's truly appreciated that you take the time to share with us. Thank you for all your support! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
What a very nice achievement Shane and Colette! You have great parents in Jess and Chris and its great to see that you are so strong as a family and your family values are loyal and very much bonded strongly! Happy Birthday to dear Shane and I wish you much luck and happiness! Take care guys and thanks for sharing! x
Thank you so much for your wonderful support.I have shared your comment with Shane and Colette. We appreciate your love and support. Cheers 🤍 Jess, Chris, Shane & Colette x
Congratulations to Shane, and I hope you all enjoyed your meal. I just watched a video about the town of Stamford and Burghley House in Southern Lincolnshire, both have been used in films, thought you might like to visit as not too far from you. Well done for reaching 4k subs. here's to reaching 5k!! It is a pleasure to watch you travelling around.
Thank you so much for your kindness and support, and lovely recommendations. We will check those out. We appreciate your kindness and support! Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
#51. My Paternal family originally came from Market Harborough and were there for about 200 years from the time they appear in the Dingley Church Records in 1810 and spread to Desborough and the surrounding areas.
Fabulous, thank you for watching. Hope you enjoy the video. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Lovely as usual! Your children are very fortunate to have such experiences. Love the 1812.
Thank you so much! We're so blessed to get to call this home for a while and allow the kids to experience more than just the US. We appreciate your kindness. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Hi family , lovely drive thoroughly enjoyed , well done to your two lovely children hope they achieve all they wish for in life . 40s no age I'm greatful to be around at 50 . Make every moment count 😊❤
Dear friend, we are so thankful to have your love and support it on oliver lovely adventures. We are so very thankful for you. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Congratulations to Shane and Colette. A big achievement in life. Still subscribed here. I have had it happen to me with other sites though. A very nice day out.
Thank you so much. We are so glad you are still subscribed. And we are thankful that you enjoyed this nice day out with us. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Congrats to Collette & Shane.
Thank you! Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
I've enjoyed your videos. An additional vlog would be good, but don't put too much pressure on yourself, Jess. Hearty congrats to Shane and Colette on their respective academic achievements this year. Hope you had an excellent meal. Take care.
We definitely appreciate all of your love and support. I am definitely trying to work out the kinks for my working VLOG. I am definitely trying to add more for you all to enjoy. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Hi guys.
You didn't tell us what the Norfolk connection is.
I think your videos are best suited for North American viewers because we British are used to driving along endless bendy roads, since birth.
If you're asking me what would appeal to the British - would be you guys enjoying the places when you get there.
I hope the weather has held out for your filming because this year so far has been one of the most miserable for many years.!
In previous years, I've been sunbathing in my back yard already in APRIL.
How long are you going to stay.?
Thanks for the suggestion. We are still here for about another year. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
Lovely car journeys without the car sickness. Thanks guys.
We so glad we had you come along with us. We appreciate your time. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Kettering is the next town over from where I live, my niece is a nurse at Kettering general. Unfortunately I'm not keen on driving in the town as I always get suck in the one way system 😂 As someone else said in the comments Rockingham castle is a lovely place to visit. Another is Althorpe House which was princess Diana's childhood home and is still owned by her family. The smallest county, Rutland isn't far away, you can take a lovely walk or cycle round Rutland water which is a large reservoir.
Thank you so much for your comment and recommendations. We appreciate your time watching and commenting. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Yaaay!! Over 4 thousand subscribers! Congrats. On another note: how on earth do you get 2 teenagers to sit in the back of a car in silence? lol! Congrats to both Shane and Collette for their educational achievements.
Oh, we appreciate your support, friend.Thank you so much! Electronics and books are how we keep them quiet, but they're older and enjoy traveling. We appreciate your kindness and support! Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Kettering cannot be classified as a village - it’s a (small) town. In fact a Market town with lots of industry, particularly footwear.
Thank you so much for sharing. Really appreciate you giving us useful information. We appreciate your time. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
The work vlog could be interesting , i'd say it's definitely worth a try. Good luck !
Thank you, I'm still working the kinks out. Because I have to turn the camera off when someone comes in the store. So we will see what I can get this week. Appreciate the support! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
The power lines in a web are telephone lines, the power lines are on big metal pylons with arms either side with the cables hanging off them. In towns and cites power cables run under ground .
Thank you so very much for your time sharing about the phone lines. We appreciate your time watching. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Well. I was hungry by the time we got there. And I certainly wouldn't be able to remember the way back.
ps - The roads in Cumbria (Lake District) are just as bad! Bang! Wallop! Thump !
Thank you so much.We enjoyed the food, and we're definitely going to check those places out. Thanks for the recommendation. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
I love your videos, they're very relaxing, but they do show the mortifying state of the roads in this country. Chris was very good at all the swerves in this one haha
It varies a lot according to where you are. Northants Highways Dept is still struggling to get back on top of things after the council went bankrupt a few years ago. They try to give M and A roads priority but there are some shocking B roads.
We are so glad that you enjoy our videos. We are so glad that you can come along with us. Thank you for being kind regarding Chris's driving. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
I believe you once said you come from Upstate Michigan. If so, you may feel a kinship with Kettering as it was an iron ore mining town, supplying ore to the nearby Corby steelworks.
Lovely, we are from the UP. That is where our small holding his located. We appreciate your time sharing with us. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Only been to kettering one time and that was when i was going to wicksteed park, its a pity you couldnt have checked it out while you were there. i think you would like it, if your into funfares plus more. love your rides out and your reactions.
We are so very thankful that you enjoy our lovely rides and all of the fun commentary. Thank you so much for your wonderful support. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Try the Yorkshire Dales, and the Lake District.
On the list. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
that sounds nices show wear you work looking out for that video😀👍
I'm trying to work out the kinks, but I'm looking forward to sharing it with you all. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
The interesting car was a Ford Anglia , your kids will probably know it as the flying car in the Harry Potter movie !
Yes, we loved it! It's so cool to see lovely classic cats out driving. We appreciate your kindness. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Great to see you all enjoying a day out, and what I hope was a great steak? Not eating meat I've forgotten such trips out. Congrats to Shane on finishing his senior year; hopefully with excellent grades. Where to next? University in the UK, maybe? Wishing the young man a great birthday. A trip to the pub with his father is in order, and a few fine ales to toast his coming of age.
Thank you so much. The food was really good. Shane graduated with wonderful grades, and he is trying to figure out what he wants to do next. We appreciate your kindness and support. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Congrats Shane. By the way, those are not power lines, they are phone lines. Most of the UK the power lines are underground. Love your channel.
We appreciate your kindness and support, friend. We hope you have a lovely week! Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
If you are looking for an interesting Miller & Carter, you should try the one at Lakeside the next time you're coming back from Kent. It's on an old Paddle Steamer.
Interesting, thank you for the recommendation. We appreciate your time, friend! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Congrats to Shane and Colette...can't be easy coming to a new country and keeping up with study, making new friends, adjusting to many new things, so well done! Btw the lines were telephone lines. Most of our other services are below ground except in some rural areas. The new vlog sounds interesting, looking forward to it. Thanks for sharing your drive, and enjoy your weekend!
Thank you so very much for the kindness. Also, your time sharing about the phone lines. We appreciate your kindness and support. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
06:45 It's not that the signs themselves are old, it's that the symbols on them are. The road signs used throughout the UK were first designed in the 1950s and replaced a bewildering variety of different ones as each County Council had its own designs.
Take for example the symbol used for a Level Crossing with a railway. That uses a symbol of a steam locomotive. Similarly, the warning for a Speed Camera uses a symbol of an old fashioned box camera.
Those symbols are universally recognised and changing them to more "modern" ones would just lead to confusion and possibly, God forbid, accidents. 😥
11:00 The monument in Geddington is one of only three intact survivors of the twelve Eleanor Crosses built between 1291 and 1295.
To quote from the very good Wikipedia article about them:
"The Eleanor Crosses were a series of twelve tall and lavishly decorated stone monuments topped with crosses erected in a line down part of the east of England. King Edward I had them built between 1291 and about 1295 in memory of his beloved wife Eleanor of Castile. The King and Queen had been married for 36 years and she stayed by the King's side through his many travels. While on a royal progress, she died in the East Midlands in November 1290. The crosses, erected in her memory, marked the nightly resting-places along the route taken when her body was transported to Westminster Abbey near London.
The crosses stood at Lincoln, Grantham and Stamford, all in Lincolnshire; Geddington and Hardingstone in Northamptonshire; Stony Stratford in Buckinghamshire; Woburn and Dunstable in Bedfordshire; St Albans and Waltham (now Waltham Cross) in Hertfordshire; Cheapside in London; and Charing (now Charing Cross) in Westminster.
Three of the medieval monuments - those at Geddington, Hardingstone and Waltham Cross - survive more or less intact; but the other nine, other than a few fragments, are lost. The largest and most ornate of the twelve was the Charing Cross. Several memorials and elaborated reproductions of the crosses have been erected, including the Queen Eleanor Memorial Cross at Charing Cross Station (built 1865)".
20:10 Those are not Power Lines, those are Telephone Lines. 😉 Power Lines to 99% of UK homes are in the ground.
Incidentally, we still refer to the wooden poles that they are attached to as "Telegraph Poles", even though they haven't been used for telegraphs for donkeys' years. 🙂
Agree, friend! We love exploring and learning. Thank you for taking the time to share all this information with us. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Ah…the A43…..not sure were you guys are located in uk, but if you’re interested, you past both Deenthorpe and Grafton Underwood 8th USAAF sites / memorials . The first and last missions of the 8th were flown from Grafton. Kettering and Northampton were the home of the shoe industry in the past. If you would like some hand made shoes while over here try visiting Loakes or Church’s for some fine English footwear 👍😊
Definitely have those places as a must-see and check out. We have so many places that we definitely want to make sure we see before we leave. Thank you for the recommendations. We appreciate your time watching and commenting. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
The "interesting car" was a Ford Anglia 👍
The sloping rear windows on them kept them fairly clear even though rear screen window wipers were unheard of at that time!
Yes, friend, it was! Thank you for your time watching! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
thanks for another journey I really enjoy the drives and scenery - this is reality TV without all the unpleasantness :)
We're glad you enjoy, friend! Thank you for your support. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Kettering is a town - a pretty unremarkable one at that. You visit Stamford, where I live, Uppingham, or Oakham if you want to see a pretty market town.
Thank you so much for your insight and recommendations. We really appreciate your time. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
And a voice from the back say…”Are we there yet”? 😃
Haha, right. Kids will be kids. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
My friend lives in little place called desbourgh right near Kettering
Desborough!
Lovely. Thank you for watching and leaving us a comment. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Can't believe you didn't visit Wicksteed Park in Kettering. Not much history in Kettering itself but plenty of nice villages/pubs all around.
I was hoping to see how you handled the roundabout getting into the steakhouse.
It's a bit confusing even for locals but you seem to have got driving in the UK worked out. Well done.
Thanks for the tips! We appreciate your time watching and commenting.
Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Hey @DayDreamers Barn...Why don't you visit a few carboot sales (they are like US swap meets).... Maybe even rent a pitch/stand and see if you can sell some unwanted stuff?.Be a great video and interactions with the locals..As always great videos although Chris could use a few more hours with the drone 😂😂😉. Have a wonderful day ALL 💯👍
💯 agree with you, friend! Appreciate your comment. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
18 can now have a a beer or a glass of wine
Right.. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Welcome home!
Thank you!! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Jess. in the UK the ' t ' at the end of fillet is pronounced. At least it is in the Midlands where I am from. I cannot imagine ordering a " fillay steak". Very pretentious!
Kettering hmm. Nice place, but not perhaps a first choice tourist destination.
Very many congratulations to Shane and Collette for their success this year. Being so far from home, makes it all the more of an achievement.
Just the way we were raised. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
I live in Corby ,we have some beautiful countryside ,have you seen Rickingham Castle ,also Northamtonshire has the birthplace of Princess Diana ,Althorpe House
Rockingham!
Thank you so much.We will look into checking those villages out! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
@@DaydreamersBarn Yes, I can thoroughly recommend Rockingham castle as well. It is gorgeous inside and has lovely garden walks and views, and a nice tea shop near the entrance. It is however in Northamptonshire.
My Grandfather Harry went to London to join the Cavalry in WW1 and never returned to Leicestershire.
Sorry for your loss! Thank you for sharing with us. We appreciate your time watching and commenting. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Try the M and C in the village of Wheathampstead Herts. Thats our local.
Thank you for the recommendation. We really appreciate your time and support. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
There is a miller and carter in Epping forest
Lovely, thank you! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Well, well, I never? I've never been to Kettering but we've stayed over night in the Holiday inn right behind you, when we visited our other daughter who lives at a little "town/village" called Desborough. It's a small world!🤨
Lovely, we will have to check that village out. We appreciate your time watching and sharing with us. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
You're all going back to the States, but I reckon ya kids are coming back n settling #safebeautifulbutpotholyuk
Only time will tell.
Hiya guy's yeah nice drive out, I just enjoy the view too! It's quite relaxing 👍 yes jess that sounds good doing some more vlogging at work should be fun and entaining, shout to Shane and colette, pleased that things are going well for them! And don't forget to tell Chris about the RUclips Tasty Classics he's awesome and would be right up Chris's street all the best guy's cheers 🍻
You're so glad you enjoyed our video. I am trying to work out the kinks with my working vlogs, but I am looking forward to sharing with you all. We appreciate your kindness and all of your love and support. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Also, shared with Chris of the RUclips channel. Thank you!
Well done Shane! Though really Jess you don’t look old enough to have an 18 year old! 😊 I must have said it before we owe so
Much to our service families who through duty spend so
Much time away from home. Bet you would pass a British citizenship test with flying colours. Albeit colours with a u! Love your videos
Thank you so much for the love and support! We definitely appreciate your kindness. I look forward to continuing our video. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Shane will able to drink Alcohol at 18 in UK, you should get yourself a ex surplus RAF military 110 Land Rover ambulance left hand drive. And turn it into a camper ship it back to the States.
Yes, he will be old enough to drink over here, and he is pretty excited. You have definitely looked at some rovers. We appreciate your time, friend, leaving us a comment. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Power lines are underground... they're phone cables 😊
Right, thank you for sharing. 🤍 Jess x
Hiya. The car was, I believe, a Ford Anglia, the make and model of car I learnt to drive on! The gear stick was as long as a broom handle. Probably why it was used as the flying car in Harry Potter. See what I did there? No? Oh, well. What did my driving lessons cost? £1 per hour. A POUND PER HOUR. Those were the days. Any pics/footage/review coming of the steak restaurant, Jess? Stay safe. All the best to you.
We loved seeing the classic car. It was so cool. The food was good. We just wanted to enjoy our evening celebrating the kids. We appreciate your kindness and all of your support. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Will you be doing any agricultural shows this year ?
Yes, we definitely want to attend one for sure. Thank you for your support. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
All the cars look brand new??
It does seem like there are a lot more new cars on the road, friend. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
What was the interesting car, could not spot it on the footage, was it off camera? Was the steak place any good, as no footage of it.
It was a Ford Anglia 105E about 1965 I should think.
Yes, the car was a Gord Anglia. We always love seeing classic. The meal was fabulous! We appreciate your time. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
1812 overture as background music ….. seems a bit dramatic for a drive video! 🤪🤪
Thanks for your comment. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Do you like Kettering?
I don't know, I've never kettered before.
It was very interesting. We did not spend much time we drove through it. The food at the restaurant was delicious, though. There was very nice homes in the town. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Onion loaf, mmmm
It was definitely something we had never tried before here. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Your visit to England isn't complete without having a carvery at a local pub.
Agree friend! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Jess age is just a number. In a few days I will be 76 years old.
Yes, I definitely agree! Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Kettering is a dive. I know, I taught there for 25 years. Try Oakham, try Uppingham, Try Market Harborough, try Geddington. Anywhere except Kettering or Corby.
Or Stamford.
Yes, we live quite near Kettering, in Stamford, and the only reason to go to Kettering is to occasionally take the grandchildren to Wicksteed Park.
Corby's a dump.
Appreciate you sharing your thoughts with us. We appreciate your time watching and commenting. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
1812 overture
Appreciate your time watching. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
A very French thing to do is urinating discretely in public; all quite normal. Nothing to see here. 😅
Very interesting. Yes, I had to block it out for everyone. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Yet another great 'run out,' but may I apologise for the individual urinating in public, there's no excuse for it, it's absolutely disgusting and illegal. As a Briton, it makes me ashamed that this is the sort of example a visitor to our shores will take back with them. May I also apologise for the state of the road surfaces in this country, potholes, cracks, dips and chasms are not indicative of the 1st world country we like to think we are. Motorists here have complained long and hard about the state of disrepair of our roads, but the powers that be whether they be local or national just turn a deaf ear and do very little.
Definitely. No, apologies needed because I know that not every place has its good apples. So things will happen. We will remember all the lovely experiences and members we made from this beautiful place we are blessed to call home away from home. We appreciate your time watching. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
The spiders web they are phone lines for the land line
Thank you for the information. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
