Since your funnels don't vent well, you could take a large paperclip and open it 2/3s, and fold one end over to hook into the bottle, it will vent well afterwards. Quick, easy, cheap fix. YMMV
i use a screen and either a cheesecloth or my mesh to squeeze out every last bit of juice from the junk, i also use this method to get a clear sample for reading
you can def infuse bananas into your undiluted shine and let it macerate for a day and then distill it with the banana slices in the still and even add a bit more water to top up the still , this is what i will be doing to ensure more aroma and flavor
I made banana wine once. Basically same process as wash. But i lined a brew bag in my bucket. That way i could pull all the banana junk out and then siphon the liquid into my carboy. Maybe that could help your next batch?
Did you have a bubble plate in that column? Or was it just running straight through to the condenser? . Im going to put together the same mash this weekend I've seen some people say run a couple bubble plates and some say it's best not to this will be my first rum run with fruit in it. Just curious what your opinion was. Thanks for any insight
I just made a banana/pineapple rum. Next time I'm making just banana. With my dunder added to the fermentation. My dunder looks perfect! Mold on top but still smells great! Ps, during the banana ripening process I lost my smell for bananas! Lol!
This just sparked an idea… using the smoker on the bananas. Wash the whole banana. Split lengthwise skin on. Have a water pan in there to catch drippings and smoke low. I can set mine on a ‘smoke’ setting and keep heat around 155 max. It’ll be enough to add the flavor, activate the banana enzymes, and you’d have the smoky banana drippings and water, basically a sweet liquid smoke to either add to the wash or some other smoky dessert!
Hey randy I liked your set up for your thumper jar set up I'm going to make one when get my still thanks for the info

Hi Randy, I would suggest also adding some citric acid to help preserve the yellow color in the liqueur.

I meant to ask, did you use any copper packing in your column when you ran this?

I once had a banana rum, can't remember the brand but it had an almost smoked flavour and was amazing.

Could you use banana peals in your thumper jars ??
I have not tried that but could work maybe some peels and some tails thanks
Been waiting for this one lol
Cheers!!
I think that after I get started and do a few basic runs I can see me making this
When you distil your rum, the foreshots have a very strong banana flavour...
Y’all… my Aldi has bananas for $0.25 a pound… I’m bout to go clean them out of 100 lbs or so…
